do you remember what you dreamed last night?

Oneiro

Definition

oneirophrenia

a hallucinatory, dream-like state caused by several conditions such as prolonged sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation, or drugs (such as ibogaine). It has some of the characteristics of simple schizophrenia, such as a confusional state and clouding of consciousness, but without presenting the dissociative symptoms which are typical of that disorder.

Project Brief

what

Oneiro will be an installation where people can interact and re-live their dreams in a different way. The definition of “dream is often black and white, where dream is often defined only as a beautiful dream and a nightmare.

Oneiro

Project Brief

why

Oneiro will give an opportunity for the audience to re-live moments where dream is in the gray, vague area, whether or not you are actually dreaming, experiencing your REM state, lucid dreaming, or experiencing a sleep paralysis. Oneiro will allow audience to experience their dreams in an immersive way without actually dreaming. They will be presented with visual imageries of what dreams might be interpreted. The purpose of this installation to really trigger an emotional effect from the audience. Whether they will feel comfortable or disturbed (mess with your head)

Project Brief

who

Dreams are abstract. Sometimes dreams can be perceived as imageries taken from realities but most of the time, dreams are abstract and non-linear. Due to the characteristic of dreams, some imageries presented in the installation may be found disturbing for children under 17. Due to possible psychedelic and disturbing flashy images that this installation may have, people over 50 are not encouraged to experience this Thus, the target audience of this installation will be around 18 to 50.

how. 1: “it’s all in your head The 3D model of this installation will take form of a dome. Materials to be determined. However, visual imageries will be projected inside the dome. The dome is supposed to represent the head, and it will make the audience feel like the imageries are floating over their head, just like when they actually dream. Interaction: When the audience goes inside the dome, the sensor will detect their motion and the imageries will change and react as the audience move around inside the dome.

how. 2: hanging clouds The 3D model of this installation will take form of a pieces of cotton balls connected to a wire that will be hung to a piece of foamcore at the top. The reason of the cotton balls are because people refer to dreams sometimes as if flying over the clouds. The cotton balls represent the clouds in which the audience will be able to immerse in it. Interaction: Imagery will be projected through the cottons and the manner of interaction will apply the same way as the ‘It’s all in your head’ proposal.

how. 3: dream room Inspired by James Turrell exhibition which allows audience to immerse themselves completely inside the installation, the dream room idea is possibly the easiest one to execute, having to build the model out of wire and transparent paper that will be stretched and formed into a semicylindrical. This structure will allow audience to immerse themselves completely inside. Interaction: When the audience goes inside the dome, the sensor will detect their motion and the imageries will change and react as the audience move around inside the dome.
