ABOUT THE WORK

This is the battle for the Peanut Butter Jars. Choirs, as many people in the world, are obsessed with peanut butter and in this short piece they will fight their way to get the jars from the conductor. Will they get it?

PERFORMANCE NOTES In the score, you will find my ideas for movement on stage! If you happen to have any other, let me know! I would love to hear your own crazy ideas on how to create this epic battle for the peanut butter. In my imagination, the choir is in standard position Soprano and Tenors at the left and Alto and Basses at the right. If you have any question or idea, send me an email to composercordero@gmail.com

ABOUT THE COMPOSER Hola, People! My name is Carlos Cordero! I am a full-time composer, hug-giver, and singer with a crazy mind. In the past few years, I have been lucky to win composition competitions around the world that have led to wonderful relationships and opportunities. Back in 2018 I was selected as University of Houston’s Affiliated Fellow at the American Academy of Rome, spending two months in Rome writing music and poems, eating delicious food, and meeting fascinating people. I love writing music for singers, including an operetta called Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras. I also write for instruments, just less often! My pieces have traveled around the world, including America, Europe, and Asia! I am originally from Venezuela. I was born in Maracaibo, a hot city with delicious food! Right now, I am living in Austin, Texas with my fiancé, Ryan Heller after finishing my Master of Music in Composition at University of Houston, where I studied with Dr. David Ashley White. I can’t believe I had the chance to sing with UH’s Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber, winning the 28th Béla Bartók International Choral Competition Grand Prix. Panamusica, E.C. Schirmer, and Selah Publishing publish some of my scores. All the others are available on my website! I am currently working on my educational project, Happy Composer while working as composer-in-residence in Chorus Austin. I am a former Choral Conductor and Music Educator at El Sistema, with a B.M. and a Specialization in Composition from Universidad Católica Cecilio Acosta.
