SUNLIGHT at 12h a.m in diferents months The main thing we had in mind for the design of public space is the existence of shaded areas and sunny areas. In our public space is mainly important the sunlight, because of the area where is placed the eco neighborhood. So we have studied the woodland and cast shades.

Our public space is able to adapt to the needs of people, depending on the season and the time of day. The space is adapted to be pleasant as much in summer as in winter. In cold weather, it offers a number of sunny spaces where people can perform their activities in comfort. In hot weather, it responds with fresh and shaded spaces, either with the use of vegetation or water. In addition, we had in mind the possible itinerary of people to create a mesh of connections comfortable to go by in.

The main objective of design in the public space has been the connection with the rest of the new district and the existing city. For this, we have identified some possible routes that have helped us define the space.

These tours have been created by elements such as pavement, so it can fulfill permeability functions and differentiate land uses, being in a single platform.

1- main f loor activity
We have another targets in our work as the intention to foster the attractive strength of the edges. We have decided in some cases take out the terraces, this way we can favor the paths for people who are looking for maintaining contact with the uses of the ground floor.

2- outside activity
By creating small urban gardens we have sought to create identity in neighbors. The urban garden should not be considered only as a place of culture that promotes consumption of horticultural products. It should be a space for leisure and recreation, education, encounter and exchange. The crop, plays an undeniable environmental, economic and social role, which not only responds to individual needs, but also allows the development of group activities, promotes social relationships and integrates systems of urban green spaces. In many cases younger population develops most of their time in the public space. This project is designed as exclusive areas for children’s entertainment such as tennis or soccer playgrounds and fountains, however it has not only one intention, it can be also a focus attractor.

Trying to introduce a healthy lifestyle related with nature, in the project of ecobarrio we propose a soft mesh of pedestrian paths, bicycle or public transport, we have extended them beyond the neighborhood and connecting with large recreational space in the city of Cartagena.

1- opportunities to sit
We have also provided the space with a network of bins, containers and elements of urban lighting. To be able to develop all of these activities we propose a convenient and enjoyable way to provide a network of autochthonous trees of different sizes and leaves. They have strategically given the tour of the shadows zru aut the year. All areas that pretend to make short and long staying spaces are endowed with this woodland.

We are interested in the relation between the urbanism and the architecture. We have designed an open corridor and small open spaces in the building, where the neighbors will have contact between themselves and the people outside. Moreover, as Jane Jacobs say, the more people are looking the square, the more safety it will be. The street must have always eyes looking it. We could consider this people as the natural owners os the street.

1- water
The sustainability is really important in our design. Firstly we want to reduce the amount of waste water, without affecting its quality. we designed in our neighborhood a central ecological innovation park, where in addition to renewable energies, there will be a treatment system where the water collected will be recycled. We want to complete the cycle of the water, so we will reuse the waste and rain water. This recycled water will be use in watering, in fire systems and toilets. We collect the water in two different ways, in the public space with the permeable pavement, and on the green roofs of the buildings.

2- ventilation
In our building we have cross ventilation to save energy. But also we have a vertical ventilation system, where the south façade air get in the building and goes up throw an air conduct. On the roof there is a black element in order to make the hot air goes out and help the ventilation system.

The common areas of the building are designed to become part of the public space, so you can see and be seen from these areas. In addition we allow some distance between homes and common corridors in order to maintain intimacy. The interior of the houses is specially designed to be flexible. This is a space able to accommodate all types of family or ways of living and working. This space can be a space directly connected to the outside or become a more private space with more privacy only in a few minutes.

Carlos Bonilla Enseñat, Rocío Gómez Gómez, Adrián Osorio Ramirez Urbanism 3 ex.2
All this year we have studied the factors that condition a good public space and how to approach the existing factors that we have. People is the main important factor in this project, we have a planning which responds to the needs of people. Our planning, from the beginning of the year has been looking for creating flexible spaces where the users decide how and when use them, incorporating variety and pattern design.
