FAMILY HOUSING, 2006
Green House
Purpose:
Recreational Area
In this Project I proposed a single-family housing which complied with the needs of a predetermined family in the city of Maracaibo.
Tennis Court
The family consists of five members, each of them with different interests and needs: Father, mother, son, young daughter and grandfather. PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT
Design Concept: A circle and its different variations and dimensions were taken into account as main inspiration. When the design started, a central axis was established to unify the different circles and lines used in the design. Afterwards, different circles were generated until enough areas to place all the spaces needed inside the housing.

Design a retirement home for the elderly, where they can satisfactorily spend their last years of life and be taken care of by qualified people in a complex that has all the spaces and comfort they need.

Main Park
One of the most outstanding elements created within the project is an artificial lake located on the north part of the lot which is crossed by a bridge to give people the chance to enjoy nature. A big square with benches placed with a certain distance was designed, so the elders could spend their free time walking around and enjoying nature. In addition, a bolas criollas (Venezuelan sport) court was designed so they can spend their free time playing. Bolas criollas is an easy game to play and it doesn’t require much movement.

During the research for this project, it was learned that elderly people enjoy being in touch with nature. Therefore it was decided to create terraces located on the back part of every bedroom for residents to have direct access to the green areas.

Purpose: Develop an urban study in order to detect the problems of a specific area in Maracaibo, in order to design a residential proposal that fulfills all the needs of the Cristo de Aranza parish population. After developing an urban study on the area, and having determined the problems that affect its population, it was decided to create a residential proposal in order to offer satisfactory life to the people of the area. That goal would be achieved through the creation of different buildings where they would be relocated.

As elevations grow, buildings were built higher to efficiently take advantage of the views of Maracaibo Lake and, at the same time, use the different roofs as spaces to create terraces where people in the buildings could spend their free time and interact with their neighbors. Parks were also created in order to generate spaces where the population could have fun in a safe way. There are also fountains, water mirrors and palm trees to create a fresher and more pleasant environment. PRODUCED BY

BUSINESS TOWER, 2008 Urban Analysis & Proposal
Selected Area
At the time of beginning the urban study and the project, Republic Square was taken as main core due to its historic significance. It was decided to generate a better integration among the areas surrounding the Republic Square by creating a boulevard. This decision was made because most of the structures near the square are used as commercial. Mostly restaurants, stores, fast food places, banks and an education facility.
Selected Site
In order to generate a more welcoming environment, it was decided to implement green straps along the blocks in order to introduce more vegetation. The green straps would present breaks every certain distance in order to accommodate bus stops, benches, and commercial stalls. It was decided to introduce commercial stalls and benches in order to bring more people to the area and allow them to find more amenities along the area. In addition to the new urban ornaments, it was decided to turn the empty spaces into small plazas that would generate a fresher environment along the area. Those plaza would present several water features, vegetation, and sitting areas. Also, one of the plazas, the one located at the east edge of the proposed tower would present two small exhibition areas. Those areas would allow local artists to present their work and share it with visitors and citizens.

Business Tower Proposal At the moment of beginning the design process of the tower, it was decided to use geometrical figures as main inspiration, in this case, squares and rectangles. Several combination were tested until a functional and aesthetical shape was generated.

When designing the upper levels of the tower, one of the most important elements of the areas was taken into consideration, the Republic Square Obelisk. The tower was divided into two parts in order to enhance the presence of the obelisk. In addition, to generate a stronger spatial integration between the two parts of the tower and take advantage of the great views, a public library was created on the top level of the tower.
Office Spaces
Close Section A
Several offices were proposed along the tower: a bank, a stock exchange office, an architecture firm office, a graphic design office, and other offices for rent. In order to give workers better places to relax during the work breaks, it was decided to implement open floors every seven floors. On the open floors, sitting areas, vending machines, small cafes, smoking areas and vegetation would be found.

The proposed architecture firm office would present four levels that would be interconnected by central stairway. A more comforting environment would be generated by implementing a green strap along the stairway. The working floors are divided into three main work areas where several cubicles would be located. It was established that the separation between cubicles would be 2,5 meters height, which would generate enough privacy but providing a sense of integration among the employees.

Blighted Properties
The structure of the city needs to change, to reorient itself to natural systems. The proposal to achieve this reorientation is to apply a ranksize distribution to the city, divided into square-mile units, giving water and permeable surfaces the top two ranking spots, above urban fabric. Blighted Roads Current State
Aimed State
At the city scale, marsh and wetlands should be introduced as a single system, located where most appropriate: in the lowest topographies and to serve as an ecological, protective barrier to the city.
Permeable Surface
At the site scale, new infrastructure must be added to make land at higher elevations above sea level more desirable for residents of all income levels. Blight in the district: 2,468 vacant homes 6,660 net population loss

Vacant properties in the north-most zone of the site remain vacant, where the probability of inundation outweighs the costs that would be incurred in redevelopment. Blight in the district is the result of the probability of inundation being greater than the benefit of rebuilding. The adaptation introduces swales in residential blocks to alleviate blight and generate water ownership. Water introduced during phase two is in the form of bioswales running through residential blocks, which facilitate the flow of water downward through the topography, creating more marsh land in the north.

The founding principle of the city will have inverted by the end of this phase, and the risk of flooding will outweigh the benefit of the city’s location. The only way to mitigate this is to live with the water. Water introduced during phase three is in the character of the marsh that now occupies the northern portion of the site. The wetlands become a destination where city residents engage and explore the water.

Purpose: The project combines ecology, heritage and economy by using the 4th street that goes through the city of Brunswick to redistribute the heavy traffic on Highway 17, which provides the opportunity for a more people friendly corridor design proposal for the Highway 17 infrastructure as well as the adjacent areas including marsh landscapes of significant ecological importance. Also, it aims to reconnect Brunswick city to the marshes using its historic connections, cultural landscapes such as Linear Park system and Bringing the History to the Highway using Traditional Squares, reclaiming some of the brown-fields (contaminated post-industrial sites) and derelict properties, redesigning the signage guidelines and eco-friendly storm water management system.
