Join us for this new Introductory into the Mid-Eastern dance class! The class will focus on isolations, rotations, circulations, balance, posture, arms and hand movements to lubricate our joints, while listening to chimes from the ancient East. Instructor, Nicki Vaccar, is knowledgeable and experienced in Middle-Eastern Belly, Greek Folk and Hawaiian dance.

Did you know studies have shown that kindness is good for your health? We invite you to a free monthly program that’s all about giving and receiving kindness! Thanks to the generosity of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Kids for Peace will be hosting the Grandfriends Kindness Project where intergenerational pairs will team up to complete kind acts together. You only need to bring your kind heart.

The Culinary Lab

With Thanksgiving on the horizon, we invite you to come together with Kids for Peace to focus on gratitude. Youth and adults will create gratitude jars, write Thank Yous to Veterans, and learn to say, "thank you" in new languages. What better way to enter into the holiday season than filling our hearts with gratitude? We hope to see you there!

Grandmother’s Holiday Kitchen Friday, Nov. 8, 10—11:30 a.m., PACC This one-day holiday craft workshop will re-create some of the homemade gifts of the past. We will prepare a collection of holiday gifts which will include homemade cranberry relish, gingerbread ornaments and herbal products. Samples to take home. $30.60R/$34NR

Immediately following, attendees will be able to visit with participating vendors to get more information about each plan as it pertains to the individual. The San Diego Eldercare Directory recommends asking some of the following pertinent questions when considering Medicare Advantage Plans: • Where are the facilities located? • What hospital is affiliated with the HMO? • Is there a charge for emergency care? • Are emergency service and urgent-care services outside the plan’s geographical parameters covered? • Is the doctor of choice on the list of primary-care doctors in the plan and is he or she accepting more patients on that plan? • What charges, if any, is the responsibility of the member? • Does the plan provide transportation to and from appointments? • Are needed medications covered on the formulary? • Is there a dental or eyeglass plan? • Is there a chiropractor or podiatrist on staff? • Are second opinions from an outside physician allowed? Dr. Ronald Nino M. Perez, MD, Tri-City Medical Center Thursday, Nov. 14, 10—11 a.m., #111 Since 2011, baby boomers have grown in number and have reached the standard retirement age. In the primary care setting, it is most common that many of the baby boomer’s concerns have been related to aging. Join this practical discussion with Dr. Perez and be informed on these matters which may be relevant to you. Information to be discussed: • Concerns in aging • Updates in screening guidelines • Recent Interests in Medications that are implicated to cause dementia • Sex and STDs • How to slow down the aging process Dr. Perez, “My Family Doc,” is a board-certified Family Medicine physician, since 2012. His experience includes working in various settings of primary care such as ambulatory/out-patient, urgent care, occupational health, and mobile services.

Morningstar Investment Education Lectures Presenter Shelley Murasko bases her lectures on Morningstar’s mutual fund investment education resources. Amazon Alexa Products – An Overview Wednesday, Nov. 20, 10—11:15 a.m., #111 Amazon has made a big splash with its voicecontrolled devices…the Echo, the Dot and more. Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will explain what this new revolution of voicecontrolled devices is all about. We will review the recent updates to the Alexa product line and explain why this technology might make sense for you.

Google Photos – Handy Features Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1—2:15 p.m., #111 Google Photos is now the favorite free photo organizing and editing app for many. In addition to its many features, it offers unlimited free storage of your photos and videos in the Google Photos cloud. Our instructor, Mike McMahon, will demonstrate some of the sharing and special project features of the software. Google Photos runs on mobile devices and on computer browsers.

Did you know that adults with diabetes are more likely than those without to have a stroke or heart disease? Thankfully there are easy ways to lower the risks and prevent or manage your diabetes. Carlsbad Paradise Café by the Sea 760-602-4655 The Carlsbad Senior Center serves nutritious, hot meals Monday through Friday in our Dining Room. The requested donation for seniors who are ages 60 and up is $3.50 — you need not be a city of Carlsbad resident to dine. A $5 lunch fee applies to nonsenior guests of seniors. Reservations must be made by 12 p.m. one day or up to two weeks in advance, by calling 760-602-4655. Tell us which day(s) you will be attending lunch and leave your full name and phone number. Cancellations can be made by calling 760-602-4655. Dining room seating is available at 11 a.m. and lunch is served promptly at noon. You may forfeit your lunch reservation if you do not check-in prior to 11:45 a.m. We also deliver home meals Monday through Friday to homebound seniors living in Carlsbad, for a requested donation of $4. In addition, frozen meals are available for the weekend and will be delivered on Fridays. For more information, call 760-602-4650. Transportation for lunch to and from the Carlsbad Senior Center is available Monday through Friday to Carlsbad seniors, ages 60 and up, and who are unable to drive. Transportation for medical appointments is provided Monday through Thursday. Appointments must be made in advance. For all transportation reservations, call 760-602-4650. Wednesdays, transportation is available for shopping. Call 760-602-4650 for schedule and reservations. Special transportation options are available every Tuesday for lunch & bingo, as well as the 2nd Thursday of each month for lunch and our free monthly movie.
