The titles of the movements, aside from also being clues to the particular subject matter (lie) which motivated each section, betray the underlying set theory. "Five Lies" was written in the spring of 2003, and was inspired by the playing of William Schimmel, who premiered the work in Durham, North Carolina, and later performed the New York premiere with the North/South Consonance players under the direction of Max Lifchitz.
