Dear Customer,

Greetings from Terra Ceia. I hope this letter finds you safe, in good health and ready to get in the garden! I am reusing the image from last year’s catalog (bottom, right). It was taken in one of our fields after the only snow event that winter, and at the time, seemed fitting given the struggles of dealing with nature. Little did I know it would be a harbinger of things to come. Just like the daffodils, most people I know have muddled through all the adversity while getting used to the ‘new normal’. Unfortunately, I also know a few others whose lives have been changed forever and in the worst kinds of ways. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Spring here seems to be about a month behind last year but last year was crazy early with the aforementioned daffodils blooming on the tenth of February. It is also as wet as I can remember in a long, long time. March is nearing and we still have lots of fall bulbs to finish planting as well as all of our spring perennials to lift. It will be a whirlwind once it dries out so please be patient and bear with us - we will do our best. The family is doing well. Last year marked the graduations of our two oldest children and this past month I had the task of helping them move to new towns for their new careers. I am proud of them and maybe even a bit jealous. I have been at this job for almost thirty years and I still wonder sometimes ‘what if’... My mother continues to not show her age. For the last three months she has been busy with the pecan harvest managing the collection, shelling and freezing of the fruits. It is not unusual to see her already working when I arrive in the morning and still working in the evening when I leave. Her seventy-five year old Stuart’s produced like gangbusters this year and we had to get another freezer to hold all the spoils! Thanks again for your business and support in 2020. Note: To ensure Christmas blooming, we suggest using bottom heat. Because Amaryllis thrive at an air temperature of 68 to 70 degrees with a soil temperature of 75 degrees, bottom heat is essential to getting your bulbs off to an early start. To provide these conditions without the expense of a high-tech glasshouse, simply place your pots on a standard heating pad. Heating pads enable you to leave the thermostat at a comfortable temperature while providing sufficient heat in the root zone. It should be noted that Amaryllis will grow fine in the absence of bottom heat, only not as fast.
