HI FRIENDS... God gave Carmel His vision for 2011 based on the word ‘inception’, meaning new beginnings. We’ve seen God demonstrate Himself in new ways, and the last few months in particular have been very exciting. They have refocussed us on the importance of being led by the Holy Spirit, which is highlighted in Pastor Gerri’s teaching. It explains that God created us as spirit beings to live successfully. Pastor Paul Brady spent three nights praying with Carmel and teaching the importance of prayer to usher in revival – see his article ‘Pray, Pray, Pray’. Roy and Melanie Fields were catalysts to the God inspired and God directed revival meetings during June and July. These meetings united us with fresh passion for God and His purposes See overview on pages 16-18. Finally, earmark your diary for our annual aGODthing! Conference from 19th – 23rd October. It’s aptly named, ‘Inception’, as we believe God has not finished with us yet; there is more to come. We believe that what God has started will affect the whole body of Christ, locally, nationally and internationally. Don’t miss out!

C:VIEW CBC GRADUATION

DAY NIGHT SATELLITE MODULES CORRESPONDENCE

There was an air of anticipation and excitement as relatives and friends of graduating students gathered for the 15th Graduation Ceremony of Carmel Bible College (CBC).

The auditorium was in colourful array, with national flags of the nations from which students had come displayed along the walls. In the audience were many people representing a large number of ethnic groups. Behind the scenes, graduating students prepared for the climax of their studies at a College which is gaining international appeal and influence in today’s Christian world. The College Principal, Pastor Sean Leask, entered with other College lecturers. Excited conversations quietened and the audience joined in a joyous and uplifting time of worship, led by the worship team, as glory was given to God for all that He had done. Pastor Sean followed the worship by welcoming everyone on behalf of the College’s Founders, Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Pastors Gerri and Michelle Di Somma. This year another feature was added to the event. As with meetings that take place at Carmel Centre, the Graduation was streamed over the internet to the many people who wanted to view the Ceremony from overseas. Pastor Sean made a specific point of welcoming them and acknowledging their part in spreading the influence of the College in their country.

4

The graduating students were welcomed by everyone. Some students carried flags as the rest followed in an orderly column to the music of the well known song, ‘Our God Reigns’. The audience stood to applaud them, enthusiastically demonstrating their personal congratulations. Most of the students could not hide their pleasure in reaching the culmination of their studies and being there for the Graduation. When they had arrived at their reserved seats, everyone stood for the National Anthem, ‘God Save the Queen’. Pastor Ken Suckling led the gathering in prayer. He thanked God for the ‘paper accolades’, and more so for helping the students and giving His gifts. Pastor Sean Leask followed, reminding the audience of the many important changes which have been made to the College’s curriculum and procedures over the preceding year. These have led to the inclusion of new national awards, increased recognition from national education and governmental authorities and the adding of honours and distinction to the College awards. In the audience there were many visiting Pastors and particular thanks were given to those who had made it possible for some of their Church members to come and study at CBC. Roy and Melanie Fields from America

C:VIEW CBC GRADUATION were acknowledged and welcomed, particularly mentioning their role in leading the Revival Meetings which were taking place at Carmel, and had been since 18th June. When Pastor Michelle Di Somma came to the lectern, she emphasised that the students were graduating in the revival. She continued by reading out letters of congratulations from Pastors and leaders around the world and in the UK who have connections with Carmel Ministries International and the College.

‘The Appointed Time’ The keynote speaker at the Ceremony was the Chancellor, Pastor Gerri Di Somma. His considerable experience as a Pastor and a teacher of Bible Students in South Africa as well as the UK gave extra relevance to the message he brought for the students. He turned to Habakkuk 2: 2-3, focussing especially on the third verse: For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Pastor Gerri gave his message the title, ‘The Appointed Time’. “It is not calling and gifting that causes most leaders difficulty,” he said. “It is the timing of vision.” He pointed out the tendency of some to be impatient, and be tempted to work things out logically. “Every vision has an appointed time,” he stated. He referred to several biblical characters who became impatient, tried to speed up the process and suffered the consequences. Abraham, for example, had to wait 25 years for his promise of Isaac. Abraham’s initial impatience led to the birth of Ishmael, whose descendants have caused trouble for Israel, the descendants of Isaac, for centuries. “Don’t let circumstances captivate you,” Pastor Gerri urged as he pointed out the ways leaders often let circumstances drive their agenda. Using a number of examples, he told the students that while they waited, their faith would be tested, but that waiting should not mean that they are inactive in regard to their calling. “But God will step in when the timing for the vision is right,” he said. Pastor Gerri went on, pointing out the importance of using your gifting where God has placed you, and being faithful in another man’s calling. “Do not move

DAY NIGHT SATELLITE MODULES

until God moves on your leaders to release you,” he insisted. To suppose that your leaders will not respond at the right time is to put man above God. And when you are released, stick close to your roots. There you will find support and wise counsel. Drawing to a close, Pastor Gerri referred the students to Philippians 4:6-7 and encouraged them to pursue the peace of the presence of God always while waiting for His appointed time for the fulfillment of their destiny.

Presentation of Awards At the instigation of Pastor Sean, Pastor Gerri and Michelle presented the Awards to the graduating students. The audience acknowledged them with loud clapping and vocal greetings to those they knew. The whole atmosphere was one of unrestrained pleasure and celebration. First Year, Second Year and Carmel Leadership Academy students were clearly thrilled at receiving their Awards. Following this, certain students were honoured for specific achievements. The graduation was a special opportunity for something else of importance to Carmel Ministries. Two couples were publicly ordained to their full ministry, in acknowledgement of their faithful servant hearts, leadership and ministerial achievements. Pastor Gerri spoke to Ralph and Joanna Di Somma and Darrell and Clare Irwin about their achievements and future responsibilities. Other Pastors joined him, including Roy and Melanie Fields, praying for them as Pastor Gerri laid hands on them and released them into the calling that God has for them. Roy Fields spoke to them from Paul’s letters to Timothy, referring specifically to 2 Timothy 2:15. He encouraged them that in fulfilling the Word to be diligent in the outworking of their calling, it would “take a lifestyle of showing yourself approved and walking the talk.” There is a traditional end to CBC Graduations and 2011 was no different. Following the CBC Anthem, Pastor Gerri sang the song ‘We Lift Up A Shout’ in which the students provided, loud and clear, the ‘shout’ at the appropriate moments. The ‘shout’ gave the students opportunity to end the Ceremony energetically and with a full expression of how great they felt after achieving so much in their studies at Carmel Bible College. Photographs were taken by friends and families, which will serve as a reminder to the students of the relationships established and everything that God has done during their time at Bible College.

C:VIEW OUTREACHES

Knowle West Fest With the vision of impacting the local community with the love of God, the first Knowle West Fest took place in Filwood Broadway from 13th – 14th May. Carmel worked with churches in the local area to host the festival, which will become an annual event as we continue to cover our city with the good news of Jesus. Guest speakers were evangelists Rev Davey Falcus, Dougie March & John Gaughan who each have amazing testimonies of how Jesus Christ has transformed their lives from backgrounds of crime, violence, alcohol and drug abuse to lives of peace, purpose, prosperity and power. Other activities included Street Soccer School, and Kidz Klub run by Carmel and Elim@Bristol. The evening meetings were well attended and all the speakers ministered with passion and anointing. Plans are already underway for next year’s mission. You can get involved by contacting info@carmelcentre.org

Uganda Mission During May, Carmel’s Mission Director, Pastor Bob, along with his wife Mary, took the biggest team to date on their missionary trip to Mbale, Uganda. The team consisted of past and present students of Carmel Bible College. Together they experienced the greatest work of God accomplished since missions with the Bible College began. Concentrating their efforts in a village called Sibanga, each day started with a morning seminar. Pastors and congregants travelled from surrounding areas to hear God’s Word taught. The team enriched the lives of many believers, seeing them filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues for the first time. The afternoon and evening crusade in a nearby field was specifically to preach the Gospel to

6

unbelievers. Amidst lively music and dancing, the mission team mingled with the locals, ministering to and praying for young and old alike. Powerful preaching from Pastor Bob resulted in over 200 salvations and numerous healings. There were too many testimonies to relate here, but one is from an elderly lady who publicly testified of her healing. She had been crippled for many years, unable to stand straight. As students laid hands on her, the power of God healed the lady and they felt her spine straightening. The team also visited schools in surrounding areas, discovering very poor dietary and sanitary conditions. They ministered God’s truth in music and drama, which impacted both children and teachers. This too was a spiritually fruitful time, with many more salvations.

Vintage Vault – Hope for Justice With the increased awareness of the organised sex industry in the UK and Europe, Hope For Justice works extensively to rescue victims of this growing horrific crime. They work with specialist investigators and a law team, with the aim to ‘make this country uninhabitable for traffickers and a place where they can no longer continue their despicable trade’ (Ben Cooley CEO). Vintage Vault collated and sold new and nearly new clothes, shoes and accessories generously donated for the event. It was an enjoyable atmosphere as ladies browsed through clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories. Many were delighted with their purchases, pleased at having found a bargain. It was a unique, fun and vibrant way to raise money for Hope for Justice. Such outreaches are one component of the vision for the Exceptional Women’s ministry, to link with women’s charities and work alongside them in their aims to reach women in the community. Like us, Hope for Justice believe every life matters. The substantial sum raised marked a stand for righteousness and the hope for justice in the UK. C:VIEW MEN’S CONFERENCE

The apostle Paul used the ‘soldier’ motif when encouraging Timothy, and with that in mind, the Men’s Conference 2011 at Carmel from 5th to 7th May was TITLED ‘Call of Duty’. With camouflage on stage and other appropriate symbols associated with soldiering, the Conference opened with praise and worship which proclaimed the glory, majesty and victory of our Captain, the Lord Jesus Christ. During the weekend, the delegates enjoyed a barbeque together and watched a film which affirmed the theme ‘Call of Duty’. The Conference opened with people from Bristol, other parts of the UK and Italy. The speakers were Pastors Gerri Di Somma, Jim Schmitt from Ireland and Gordon Simmonds from South Africa. Early in the Conference the delegates were called to be men of honour, obedient to God’s command and focussed on God’s way of doing things, not man’s way. Pastor Gerri said that, “God’s vision is the salvation of mankind,” and that God’s army is the Church, which is committed to God’s vision. “Today’s decisions affect future generations,” he said. “Your vision must be greater than your need for recognition.”

God’s vision is the salvation of mankind God’s army is the Church, which is committed to God’s vision The Conference showed how those who joined David in the cave of Adullam became mighty men with purpose, power and success in their lives under David’s leadership. “You were created for significance,” said Pastor Gerri as he pointed out the importance of faith in accomplishing the victory that overcomes the world. Recognising that every soldier has to go through basic training, Jim Schmitt spoke about certain basics which must be found in a believer’s life if they are to be successful in what they

have been called to do. “We must see everything in terms of eternity,” he emphasised as he put the call to duty into its proper context. The Conference encouraged the men not to put a limit on what can be accomplished. The promises of God open up to us amazing opportunities. However, many limit their experience because of the fear of the unknown and their negative way of viewing things. In this way they undermine God’s purposes for their lives and never see the full expression of God’s call to them. Many want to be firmly in control of their lives so that the Holy Spirit isn’t allowed to lead them into the abundance of life waiting for them. And others let their past experience hold them back from being fully focussed on God’s word to them.

The promises of God open up to us amazing opportunities Never underestimate the revelation that comes from God through the Holy Spirit, the Conference was told. The ability to do the works of God comes from the Holy Spirit who also reveals things which no mortal can see or understand in the flesh. There was a call of duty on Christ’s life. His life fulfilled a plan and purpose which was established before the foundation of the world. The call of duty on our lives, Jim Schmitt said, has no less an eternal dimension and is no less specific. To achieve this, each soldier of God has to die to himself, take up his cross and follow Christ. Gordon Simmonds closed the Conference by reminding everyone of what God did through men who obeyed His word. “Don’t seek the praise or acclaim of men,” he said. “In God’s kingdom the greatest is the servant of all.” And he encouraged everyone by quoting Nelson Mandela, who said that much of what we do “seems impossible until it is done.”

TEACHING: BY PASTOR GERRI DI SOMMA

HOW TO BE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACHING BY PASTOR GERRI DI SOMMA God gave the Holy Spirit to help and guide born again Christians in every aspect of life and enable us to help others. His leading is also a sign of our relationship with Him: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. Romans 8:14.

God wants and has made provision for intimate and purposeful relationship with us, but Paul’s words indicate that not all are led by the Spirit. Today this is often due to influences outside the Church, which we may not realise have deceived us by distorting and perverting our base understanding of who we are and what we believe. With a wrong foundation, we are unable to hear God speak to us and direct us.

8

INFLUENCES OUTSIDE THE CHURCH: RELATIVE TRUTH Mankind has always tried to make sense of the world around him, find his place in it and make his mark upon it. His search however has not always led towards biblical truth and God.

Western culture has gone through many stages of development, all of which moved mankind away from God and faith in Him. Now we are in a stage called ‘Postmodernism’. For Postmodernists, there are no absolutes. Their beliefs are determined by their perception, surroundings, circumstances and experiences. They believe in relative truth.

Christians’ decision-making is affected

However, today’s relative truth will change tomorrow because everything of this world is subject to change. No wonder people feel insecure and powerless. And if people believe in the theory of evolution of humans from monkeys or moss gas, no wonder so many have a poor self-image.

Christians’ obedience to God is inconsistent

Instead of turning to God, people make the mind, psychology and methods of self-help their god. Relative truth has taken the place of absolute truth.

JESUS IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6. Jesus is the Word made flesh, the Son of God, the only way to salvation and to God. He was there with God before the beginning of the world and will be with us for ever. When this is our base understanding, it sets the foundation for success. It points us to God, His Son, His Word and His Holy Spirit, to empower and positively affect our life here and for eternity.

THE INFLUENCE OF RELATIVE TRUTH ON THE CHURCH Christians are not born of the Spirit Christians influenced by worldly precepts that ignore or deny man’s spirit, have a form of godliness but deny its power. 2 Timothy 3:5. They join a Church but are not born of the Spirit, and don’t become part of the living body of Christ. They are passengers, not participators. Christians struggle to overcome challenges and strongholds When the base understanding revolves around feelings and circumstances, Christians don’t mature spiritually. They attend programmes in which they are encouraged to trust God in everything, but their response is frequently to rely on self-help. They enjoy ‘fellowship’ and temporarily feel better. They talk about the Word, but never let the Word live through them. When the programmes end, their problems remain unresolved because they are without the indwelling help of the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6.

Christians led by feelings and circumstances tend to do as they please, consulting others rather than God or His Word. This inevitably leads to chaos. We should ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:6.

Christians who don’t see God as absolute truth regard obedience to His Word and to Him as an option and not a pre-requisite. Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22. God’s instructions are to protect us in this life and prepare us for eternity. I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life. Deuteronomy 30:19.

HOW THE WORD DEFINES MAN The Church needs to re-affirm the absolute truth of God’s Word. The Word defines mankind as a spirit who lives in a body, possesses a soul and expresses himself through his heart. He is a two part being - spirit and body - who functions in three dimensions: spirit, body and soul. The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12.

1

Man is a spirit Your spirit is the dimension of man that touches the spirit realm. The natural realm of the universe was created through the spirit realm when God spoke it into being. Genesis 1:27. The Spirit is not in the universe; the universe is in the Spirit, which is more real. When we see it the wrong way round, or we limit our understanding to the intellectual realm, we don’t tap into the full power and potential inside us. We were created in God’s image, to be at one with Him through Jesus. God puts the same Spirit in us as in His Son, to do greater works than Him. John 14:8-18. Your spirit is the part of you that desires to know and can know God. God wants us to know Him. John 17:3. We were made as spirit beings, with a God-given, inbuilt desire to know Him. Until people realise it is only God who can fill that void, they often try to fill the emptiness experienced with all kinds of things which may lead to addictions, wrong relationships, involvement in the occult and other deceptions. When we submit to God, we are spiritually re-born, spiritually connected to God and spiritually know Him. Without that spiritual re-birth, we cannot see or understand things of God’s Spirit nor enter His kingdom. John 3:3-8. Once the Spirit indwells us, all revelation

9

TEACHING BY: PASTOR GERRI DI SOMMA knowledge becomes ours and we become God’s children. The same Spirit witnesses to us, leads and instructs us. Your spirit was created to live eternally. Mankind was never meant to die. Jesus came to earth and defeated death, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. Whatever your gender, name or culture, your true identity is as a spirit. Christians should consider each other as such, because in God’s kingdom there are no differences, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28. When we are spiritually re-born, we become part of God’s kingdom culture. According to psychology, the soul is where the mind, will and emotions dwell. This makes man powerless, because these are subject to change. In the Bible-believing created being, our will is in our spirit, which is who we really are. The will is able to determine morally what is right and wrong. Your conscience is the voice of your spirit man.

2

Man lives in a body Your body is the dimension that deals with and touches the physical realm. Genesis 1:28-29. The body functions through the five physical senses of taste, touch, sight, hearing and smell. Just as Jesus needed a body to dwell on earth, so your body houses your spirit to function on earth. However, the devil also needs a body to work through, which is why Paul said: present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. Romans 12:1.

The Spirit gives the body life and sustains it. Having created us, He breathed His life into us and we ‘became’. Genesis 2:7. The Spirit within us is not subject to circumstances or human knowledge. It knows absolute truth and has the power to overcome circumstances and the devil.

Whatever your gender, name or culture, your true identity is as a spirit.

3

Man possesses a soul The soul touches and deals with man’s natural understanding, intellect and culture. The soul links the spirit and body. The spirit is recreated but the mind of those spiritually re-born must be renewed, to conform no longer to worldly standards. Romans 12:1-2. In Luke it says: By your patience possess your souls. Luke 21:19. Often, we blame the devil for the results of our own undisciplined minds which bring anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language. Colossians 3:8-11. The biggest battle is often in the mind because we are so driven by our thoughts and intellect. To ‘possess our soul’ and lead a victorious life we must cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5. We must take thoughts captive to the spirit within, so we can be led to do God’s will God dwells in your spirit, not your mind, but He will speak to you in your spirit man. You comprehend it in your soul.

JESUS IS THE WORD MADE FLESH, THE SON OF GOD, THE ONLY WAY TO SALVATION AND TO GOD. WHEN THIS IS OUR BASE UNDERSTANDING, IT SETS THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS.

10

MAN EXPRESSES HIMSELF THROUGH HIS HEART Spirit, soul and body together become the heart of man and encompass all of man as learning, thinking, feeling beings. Your heart reveals whether you are captivated by the Spirit, the flesh or the soul. Matthew 12:34. When the flesh dominates, we may become preoccupied by appearance or physical activity. When the soul dominates, we may be emotionally driven or full of our own opinions. We’re warned: Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23. When the Spirit dominates, we trust God and turn to Him and His Word in everything and it becomes evident in our lives. Proverbs 3:5-6.

SALVATION IS REVEALED THROUGH THE HEART WHEN THE THREE DIMENSIONS OF SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH THE WORD I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:26-30. With the soul, mind and intellect, comes the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20. Sin is not wrong doing, but unbelief in God. Wrong actions are the result of unbelief. With the body, through our emotions, having recognised we’re not in relationship with God, we experience godly sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:8-10.

With the spirit, the will is engaged to repent and follow God. We repent, through a decision of the will, which is in the spirit, and follow God. Deuteronomy 30:19-20. The mind can’t come into relationship with God. You possess your mind, but when your spirit is in relationship with God, He comes in and indwells your spirit man. You become empowered to function through the Spirit, with authority and power to rule and reign on earth. Don’t be ignorant of or deceived by worldly philosophies or man’s traditions. Ensure your foundations are right so you walk in God’s power and authority through the Holy Spirit’s leading, to accomplish God’s destiny for you.

ARTICLE BY PASTOR PAUL BRADY

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY BY PASTOR PAUL BRADY

Prayer is vitally important if we are to experience God’s presence, whether alone or together. It is presumptuous to expect the presence of God without a prayer life in which you draw near to Him. The following article summarises the message brought across three evenings of prayer from 27th to 29th May 2011 at Carmel Centre by Pastor Paul Brady, senior Pastor of Living Rivers, Northern Ireland.

Prayer is a lifestyle Prayer is a lifestyle, an adventure and is exciting. The presence of God is heavy with His goodness, and prayer that takes you there must take you deeper, which only the Spirit can do. We now have the firstfruits of the Spirit, but we eagerly wait for the full harvest at the Lord’s return. That ‘eager waiting’ is such deep longing that we groan as if grieved over what has not yet fully come. Romans 8:23. Because of this, the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be uttered, recognising that we are vulnerable and weak until the full harvest comes. Paul wrote: Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the

12

hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27. And Jude instructs us: But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 20-21. Be bold in prayer. Don’t hold back. Come boldly to the throne of grace. The Spirit of God is moving powerfully across the earth in these days. We must get caught up with Him and be led into the purposes of God. He is reviving His Church and we must let the fire of the Spirit burn up that which is not of Him and refine us, that His glory is revealed. Prayer leads to revival We cannot measure today’s revival by yesterday’s experience, but certain things remain true. Duncan Campbell said of the Hebridean Revival: “I did not bring

revival to the Hebrides. Revival was already there.” No-one is going to stand up in the pulpit and bring revival. God is the One who, through the obedience of faith by His saints, begins something in the midst of those who are hungry and thirsty for Him. There has never been a revival without prayer and there never will be. The Ulster Revival in 1859 happened following people getting together to pray. They were opposed by the traditional churches, but God came and did mighty things. The revivals in America between 1825 and 1935 that involved Charles Finney’s preaching were led by people who prayed. Finney has been called the father of modern revivalism, but he fully acknowledged that he relied on his prayer team every step of the way. BE BOLD IN PRAYER. DON’T HOLD BACK. COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE

Prayer must have purpose Put yourself and your needs aside and pray the purposes of God. The Holy Spirit comes and enables us to pray according to the will of God. We can only pray so far in our own language because our intellect has a limited capacity when it comes to the things of God. We must pray in the Spirit. Then He enables us to pray the plans and purposes of God. Consider what God has purposed in making us a temple of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t dwell in us for us to keep Him for ourselves. We are here to be His witnesses in the world. As He is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17. We need boldness and the only place to get it, is from the throne, through prayer. When the Spirit takes hold of someone it may seem as if they are out of their minds, but they are so deeply embedded in the presence of God that they themselves don’t notice. You must be focussed and not distracted, having faith and a good conscience towards God. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16. When we are led by the Spirit, the Spirit helps us to pray because there is so much we don’t know. There are many things we rightly hope for that we do not see, but by the Spirit we can pray effectively concerning them. Romans 8:26. The Holy Spirit is not a God of confusion, and He enables us to pray in accordance with the will of the Father. THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND ENABLES US TO PRAY ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD

Prayer positions for authority There will be opposition. The devil will raise his ugly head. Remember, he’s a liar and there is no truth in him. John 8:44. But he wants to deceive and dispossess you. Don’t give him any opportunity. Ephesians 4:27. Be led by the Spirit and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32. In one of Daniel’s prophecies, he speaks about how the enemy’s strategy is to dispossess us of the kingdom of God. He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law. Daniel 7:25 (NASB).

1

The enemy speaks words against the Most High. There us an underlying arrogance in this, but he does it most powerfully through the Church. It’s indirect, but when people speak against God’s people, God takes it as being against Him. Acts 9:4. Also, he generates dissention among God’s people, so our words question His wisdom and ability, and even become selfish in our expectation of what God should do or not do. We must never speak against God, whether directly or indirectly. Is your conscience too troubled to pray?

2

The enemy plans to wear down the saints. Whether tired, fatigued or depressed through busyness, pressure, stress, illness or opposition, wearing down the saints is aimed at rendering them ineffective and vulnerable to his lies. This leads them into the deception of the devil’s fantasy world which mimics God and His works so that ultimately we are dispossessed of the kingdom. Are you too tired to pray?

3

The enemy seeks to change the times. He does this through our complacency, procrastination and neglect of God’s Word and revealed will. He aims that you have as little of your time given over to God as possible. Some of us will have to look again at what we do, the things we think are important or necessary, and do without them so that God may have first place in everything. Colossians 1:18. Have you little time to pray? Satan is a defeated enemy, but through deception can take control of your life and use your abilities to dispossess you and others of the kingdom. Rise up in your God-given authority and make sure the devil has no part in you. Let the Holy Spirit take charge of your life. Pray without ceasing and look for the manifestation of God’s power at work today both in and through you.

TEACHING: BY PASTOR GERRI DI SOMMA

MIRACLE IN YOUR MOUTH TEACHING BY PASTOR GERRI DI SOMMA

God’s Word reveals that there is a miracle in our mouths waiting to be released by us through our words. When we as Christians understand the power within us, we can change our circumstances.

Ignoring the Holy Spirit results in a life founded upon circumstances, letting them dictate to us, instead of letting the words of our mouths call those things which be not as though they were. Romans 4:17 KJV.

We are created in God’s image

What we say will determine the circumstances of our life

God created mankind in His image and He purposed us to have dominion, to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:26-31). Being created in His image means we can operate the same way He does; we can speak things into existence, just like God did, bringing order from chaos. However, instead of taking authority over our circumstances, we frequently allow them to have dominion over us. We give more precedence to the natural visible world, forgetting and neglecting the supernatural, invisible power of God that is within us. We have God’s full creative power in us Being born again means we have God’s presence with us, but when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we have the presence of God in us. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells within us to give life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). The same power that was evident when God created the world is now inside of us, so that we can have dominion, be fruitful and multiply. With God in us we can have a meaningful life in relationship with Him and impacting others. We can create a godly environment by the words we speak because the Creator dwells within us. God’s power enables us to create the same way that He does, by speaking His words of life.

14

Jesus taught: For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Mark 11:23. Three times in one verse, Jesus tells us that the things we say will change our circumstances. We need to grasp this reality and speak the desired end result, rather than confessing our current situation. What we say will frame our world. If we’re not satisfied with our surroundings, we should take account of the words we’re speaking. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1. Our relationship with God is our substance; God living in us brings evidence as we speak invisible words and create visible circumstances. God created the visible world through His invisible words, and with Him in us, we can do the same. Whether we like it or not, we are living the circumstances of the invisible power that comes out of our mouths, either in a positive or negative way. Proverbs 18:20-21 draws our attention to this principle: A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Without the regeneration of the Spirit of God, we are

by nature negative people and will create a negative world for ourselves through our words. But when we received Christ and were filled with His Spirit, we gained power to tame the tongue (James 3:2-12) and change our confession. Jude gives us invaluable wisdom to build ourselves up in faith by praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20). Often it is better for us to say nothing and pray in the Holy Spirit, through Whom we pray the perfect prayer into our situations. There are some key factors in releasing the miracle in our mouths:

prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua was instructed not to let God’s Word depart from his mouth. In doing so, in his mouth was life. Joshua was further commanded to meditate on God’s Word day and night. This meditation means to mumble constantly to oneself the truths in the Bible. When applied, God’s Word will become reality to our hearts. In turn, we will do all that is written in the Bible, like framing our world with the words we speak (Hebrews 11:3). This will lead to the prosperity and success we all desire. 3. Keep company with people who love to speak God’s Word

1. Confess sin out and confess faith in The sin we need to confess is the sin of unbelief. The reason we don’t see signs, wonders and miracles is because we don’t believe we have the power of God within us. Unbelief causes us repeatedly to speak negatively, and we end up captive to the situations we have spoken into existence. Recognising this, when we confess the sin of unbelief out, we can confess faith, that is, Jesus in. We’re then no longer subject to yesterday’s failure or defeat; we’re subject to today’s word of faith. Romans 10:8-9 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Because Jesus was raised we can be born of God’s Spirit, receiving the power and presence of God in us, and therefore the ability to change our circumstances. 2. Make God’s Word your word Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way

The people we spend time with influence us, so it’s wise to be careful about the company we keep. People who are depressed and lack faith will attempt to control us with rules and regulations. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1 Ungodly counsel means ungodly advice. We are blessed when we don’t listen to it, for the ungodly have elevated psychology, the study of the mind, above God and the study of the Spirit. Since we are spirit beings, and life comes from the Spirit, not our intellect, we should also take heed of the next verses in Psalm 1: But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. (verses 2-3) We have the power to change our circumstances through God’s Spirit who lives in us. He is waiting for us to speak words of life, prosperity and healing. Instead of confessing the condition of our lives, we can confess the solution, and watch the invisible create the visible, as the miracle in our mouths is made manifest.

ARTICLE REVIVAL MEETINGS IN BRISTOL WITH ROY AND MELANIE FIELDS: AN OVERVIEW

REVIVAL:

THE CATALYST FOR CHANGE Roy and Melanie Fields, founders of Run with Fire Ministries, go where God directs, staying until He says ‘leave’. God changed their plan for Carmel from 3 days to a month. Roy led 27 revival meetings, through praise, worship and the Word. Melanie also ministered and taught on prayer and evangelism, leading prayer meetings and taking teams out for practical application. Their ministry is founded on and rooted in God’s Word, ignited, led and empowered by the Holy Spirit. They demonstrated God’s love for mankind, echoing the cry of His heart for His people in Bristol and the UK. HOW TO RECOGNISE REVIVAL The Bible, not personal experiences, defines revival. The word ‘revival’ itself is not used except in the NKJ but many incidences of revival are described in Psalms and Acts. Everywhere that Jesus went, there was revival. Revival means ‘bringing something back to life’. Meetings are not revival. It takes place in your heart, awakening and renewing something that was alive. Revival is falling in love with Jesus all over again, restoring the joy of your salvation. It’s about seeking and filling yourself with God. The crisis we face Many Christians are hungry for more of God, hungry to see God move in power as the Bible describes and as in past revivals, but don’t know how. Many Christians

16

in the UK have become satisfied with Church, as were the people when Jesus came, but are bound in religion like the Pharisees. Churches have replaced meaningful, dynamic relationship with God with sophisticated programmes and perfectionism, achieving nothing spiritual, no healings or miracles. Many things, including psychology, emotions and circumstances, have taken the rightful place of the Holy Spirit. Christians have a form of godliness but deny His transforming power. 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Churches die when hearts grow cold. The Church is in crisis, affecting little change in individuals, the lost, society or government, in a land in moral crisis. In the UK, 8 out of 10 people have never been in a church. As a result, immorality, injustice and abominations escalate. Revival is a wake-up call for individual Christians, every Church and the corporate body of Christ, to re-build God’s house, to return to Him, to know again that first love that sets hearts on fire to operate in His power and might. Haggai 1:1-15; Revelation 2:4; 3:15-16.

THE PURPOSE OF REVIVAL Revival brings God’s purpose and direction. First, it challenges and changes hearts, making way for what the Lord wants to do in and through believers. It breaks bondage, helps you see what is already yours, restores identity, reminds you who you are and what you can do in Jesus. It restores relationships and unity. Revival calls for believers to be spiritual, not natural people, and it brings new spiritual births. Revived believers become Spirit-led, impassioned and empowered to heal the sick, save the lost and set captives free. They demonstrate God’s love by giving it out, not just taking it in. Revival helps believers resist the enemy and safeguards our land from him. If we are not pro-active, we’ll continue to lose ground to him and future generations will suffer most. Inactivity could lead to losing the freedom to worship God. Revival causes dissatisfaction with anything that is not in line with God’s Word and will, instilling courage to stand against injustice. Revival always brings moral change, especially to the vulnerable, setting people free spiritually and literally. REVIVAL MEETINGS AT CARMEL Roy and Melanie came to Bristol by divine appointment. Pastor Gerri had prophesied and prayed for revival for 15 years and his congregation prayed. Past prophesy said revival would stem from Bristol to the UK and that Bristol would build bridges around the world. People came from all over the UK and other countries, others watched online from all over the world. People everywhere were touched by the Holy Spirit.

Meetings finished late, fulfilling Pastor Gerri’s words to his congregation, “The time is coming when you’ll still be praising God at midnight.” Roy led worship, accompanied by guitarists Mark Robins and Tim Bannister, drummer Junior Secco and vocalist Lisa Bayliss, and Carmel worship team. With no song list, no ‘order of service’, music flowed and the congregation became lost in worship under the leading and prompting of the Holy Spirit. People danced joyfully, raising their voices in praise. At other times, people fell prostrate. Many were delivered from personal issues as they worshipped, responding with tears or laughter. Roy and Melanie ministered the Word, laid hands on people for healing and to impart the anointing. Many were healed and lives were touched and changed. Revival is a wake-up call for individual Christians, every Church and the corporate body of Christ, to re-build God’s house, to return to Him, to know again that first love that sets hearts on fire to operate in His power and might.

Praise reports Miracles, signs and wonders were evident in the meetings, people’s homes and in hospitals. Here are just a few of the many praise reports expressing thanks: Online: Christina, Doncaster UK: a lump on her head went down. Charlie: surgery could do no more for her: healed from a damaged leg. A child: after open heart surgery, further complications, more surgery and got worse. He’s walking, healed.

17

ARTICLE REVIVAL MEETINGS IN BRISTOL WITH ROY AND MELANIE FIELDS: AN OVERVIEW Mike: critical after heart attack, required 5 bypasses. Life-threatening internal bleeding needed urgent further surgery. Later, no vital signs and needed defibrillation. Now discharged, recovering well, grateful for prayers and to be alive.

From the congregation: Margaret: healed from breathing difficulties, able to walk without a stick.

Walk in newness of life and destiny. Access what God has already done in and for you and activate what you already have. Faith is the substance of things hoped for... Hebrews 11:1. Discover and fulfill your calling. Be ignited to touch your city. Don’t observe - participate. Don’t waste God’s power. Be empowered, change the nation.

David: healed from immobility in an arm and leg.

Pray for revival according to God’s Word:

Yvonne: fluid on a knee, “like a bag” was healed, “as if it burst.”

• In agreement and unity with other Christians and Churches. Ephesians 4:13.

Mel: asthmatic most of her life. “Five days into the revival meetings, as I worshipped God, my heart was changed, like when I was first saved. I knew I was healed. I was refreshed and breathing normally. I’ve needed no medication since, even when I jump and dance.”

• In faith. Righteousness is imputed through God’s grace, not our works. Self-righteousness blocks answered prayer; faith through the prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16.

Further reports told of a blind eye healed, deliverance from addiction to pills, nicotine, strongholds of the mind and fear.

KEYS TO REVIVAL Formulae won’t bring revival. However, certain principles apply for those who want to experience revival: Get desperate. Pursue and stay in revival meetings until you’re free. Wait for the Holy Spirit and His power. Acts 1:4;8. Position yourself for miracles and a Holy Spirit led journey throughout life. Marc-Andre and Joelle Loup from Switzerland drove 2 days to Carmel: “After we went to Lakeland, the house church we are responsible for was impacted and changed, in levels of praise and worship, relationships with God and healings. We still need to grow so we came to Bristol to be where the Holy Spirit is moving powerfully, because He changes our lives and others around us.” Humble yourself and repent. God’s Word tells His people, not sinners, to humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways so He can forgive them and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Let God deal with hidden secrets of your heart, give you a new heart and a new spirit. Ezekiel 36:26. Let go of anything blocking the flow of the Holy Spirit: others’ expectations, the bondage of culture and religion. Build on the Spirit. Ministry should stem from experience of God, not from experiences. Eat, sleep and breathe Jesus, living in the Spirit always. Get around others who are on fire, and minister from your overflow. Depend on the Spirit daily, hear God’s voice, obey Him and His Word. Keep pushing in.

18

Lay down your life. Don’t just take in; give out. Stop making excuses for inactivity. Don’t cover your hunger for God by being dutiful. Serve God and others from the heart, give deep and count the cost.

• For leaders: that we may lead a quiet and peacable life in all godliness and reverence. 1 Timothy 2:1-3. Seek the lost: • Listen to and trust the Holy Spirit. Evangelism should be a Spirit-led lifestyle of reaching out, not a Saturday programme, a formula or a duty. Every day can be divine appointments. • Let the Holy Spirit lead you to the person He chooses and say what He gives you. Don’t use a script, but learn salvation scriptures, minister the Word and share your testimony. Testimonies following street evangelism Gaynor: had a vision of three lights. “God led me to a couple from Spain, sitting by three lights. God revealed certain things about the woman, who had drifted from the Lord and I shared God’s love with her. I’ve since spoken to and prayed with many people and at least one has been saved.” Juppas: was led to a lady with a walking stick. “She said she couldn’t bend her knee; I prayed for her and later, her knee bent.” In the work place, in shops or out walking, people have spontaneously approached believers who have been in revival meetings. They have bared their hearts and been responsive to prayer for all sorts of issues. What has happened so far is a deposit. It should inspire continued hunger for revival in believers’ hearts to run with that fire, until even our shadows heal the sick as we reach out in compassion to the lost and the hurting, to make Britain once again ‘Great’ for God.

TESTIMONIES FOUND HEAVEN

It’s wonderful to hear stories of people who have given their lives to Jesus. Each story is a unique journey, revealing what life was like without God and the circumstances that led them to knowing Him. All now experience a life of true peace and joy stemming from a relationship with God, knowing that their final destination is heaven, spending eternity with their Creator. Two stories are shared here; more can be found on our website www.foundheaven.com LEE BOWDEN My parents divorced when I was two and I stayed with different family members until returning to my Mum when I was nine. Mum was an alcoholic and took drugs, and although I didn’t know that, I started the same pattern at thirteen. I looked older so I got into nightclubs and pubs. At fourteen, I was expelled from school for truanting. Crime became a regular activity and I was in and out of court. The crimes became increasingly more serious and so did the drug taking. I was out of control. In my twenties, I got a full time job and a flat. Just as I was putting my life back on track, my mother died through alcoholism. I threw myself into a downward spiral of partying. Addicted to alcohol, tobacco, pornography and drugs, I was now on crack cocaine. Then things started to change. I was nearly thirty and I discovered Christian television. My grandmother is a Christian, and had prayed for me for years. Every time I watch God Channel, it spoke right into my life. An evangelist said, “If you really want to change your life and invite Jesus in, get on your knees and say this prayer...” And so I did. Alone in my office, I had a dramatic conversion as the Holy Spirit filled me and I spoke in tongues. I felt peace and joy second to none. I couldn’t stop smiling for weeks. I was completely overwhelmed with God’s love and goodness. If I hadn’t responded to God, it would have been very hard to escape the influences around me and change. Life would have been empty and meaningless. I would have ended up in prison or dead. My life is completely different. I’m free of all addictions. Even the desire for them has gone. I’m happily married to a beautiful Christian wife. I work for a Christian organisation as prison minister assistant, helping others to know and experience God’s love, blessings and goodness. MICHELLE LEASK I grew up in a Christian family, went to Sunday school and Church and learnt about God. But as I grew older, I wanted more. At my uncle’s church in South Africa, I heard how God told His people that He wanted to remove their hearts of stone and replace them with hearts of flesh. Ezekiel 11:19. I recognised my own heart hadn’t been right and I needed to let God do the same for me. That day, I gave my life to Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit. My life changed. God gave me His peace and taught me to trust Him in everything, demonstrating that He is good and faithful, especially in tough times. When we first arrived in Bristol and knew no-one, our daughter was very ill. Waiting in the oncology ward for the medical diagnosis, I remembered God’s Word: My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. God’s presence entered the room. I see His faithfulness in her life as we continue to stand in faith, trusting and believing Him for her healing. Ten years ago God called my husband and me to our church. We help run the Bible College, where I also lecture. I am in the Church worship team and write many of the songs. I am thoroughly enjoying what God has gifted me to do. Without God, I’d probably be in an empty, meaningless, frustrating marriage, leading an empty, unfulfilled life. God has done incredible things in my life and I know many more exciting things are coming my way.
