ENJOYING THE SINCE 1996, CARMEL MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL (CMI) HAS SEEN STEADY GROWTH IN INFLUENCE IN BRISTOL AT CARMEL CENTRE, THE UK AND BEYOND... With both a clear Vision and a focussed mission based on biblical values, the ministry has been able to go forward from strength to strength, fulfilling its mandate despite the increased hostility to Christianity from the secular and non-Christian world.

MISSION: In line with the Word of God and God’s purposes in the world today, CMI’s Mission Statement is clear and concise: He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. Luke 9:2

VISION: Vision is a practical and purposeful necessity for believers in today’s world: If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. Proverbs 29:18 (Message)

Paul’s vision on the road to Damascus became the captivating force behind his success in ministry. It helped him focus his attention and energy on that which was purposeful and productive in the sight of God. I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. Acts 26:19-20 We see that Vision comes from God and with this He gives a strategy for its fulfilment. CMI’s Vision is rooted in four basic instructions which align with our Lord’s word to Paul. OUR VISION STRATEGY:

• COVER OUR CITY (DAMASCUS) • BLESS OUR NEIGHBOURS (JERUSALEM) • SEND TO THE NATION (JUDEA) • TOUCH THE WORLD (GENTILES)

JOURNEY PROCESS – THE CYCLE OF LIFE The Vision is facilitated by the process of Share, Care, Prepare and Dare. We see this as the circle of life. Undergirding everything we do is the Welfare part of the process, where CMI meets the governmental requirements. All of which is explained further in this booklet.

You can view the Vision Presentation online at vision.carmelcentre.org In the middle of this booklet there is a form. Please complete it and hand it into reception so we can help serve you better as you get further involved. Enjoy the Journey!

LIVING IN FAITH AND FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENTIALLY

DEFINITION OF LIFE: A state of living characterised by capacity for growth, reaction to stimuli and reproduction; a sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual. Living In Faith and Fellowship Experientially is the practical outworking of the teaching of God’s Word into life and relationships.

given us a strategy to once again become a centre of influence in the local community.

GROWTH COMES FROM RELATIONSHIP

2011 was about inceptions, putting together the structure to facilitate growth and dealing with the many aspects of SHARE within the Church.

The global Church, in general, has lost its influence in society, becoming better known for what it is against, than what it is for. We believe the Church’s identity needs to change. The Church is comprised of many Christians who each have a story of a life transformed through a relationship with Jesus. This Gospel needs to be communicated to our world, in a way that is relevant to them. Building upon everything that God has established at Carmel, God has

2012 will see more of an emphasis on building CARE, with LIFE Groups being the main focus. A LIFE Group will meet around common interests (e.g. hobbies or sport). The aim is to invite people in the community, to befriend and positively influence them. We recognise that the Church will grow through relationships, when people see the example of our lives, and the difference that Christ makes to every day living, as well as eternity.

VISION 2012 – LIFE

LIFE Groups are the environment where these relationships can be established. LIFE Groups will enable Carmel to transition from being an event-driven Church, to a relationship-based Church. LIFE Groups will also help people transition from merely visiting Carmel, to becoming active participants in the Vision. LIFE Groups will grow out of Home Groups and Church. Some already exist (e.g. Carmel United, Divorce Care, Grief Share). LIFE Groups need not meet on Wednesdays. Some LIFE Groups will be seasonal; others will have a fixed duration; others may only meet monthly or quarterly. CRITERIA FOR LIFE GROUPS Please creatively think of a LIFE Group you could start, with the following criteria in mind: Does the LIFE Group interest fit with the Vision of the Church? (Luke 9:2) Does it fit within the framework that drives the Vision? (Share, Care, Prepare and Dare). The leader of the LIFE Group should be a partner of Carmel, trusted and of good moral standing. This enables accountability, checks and balances. (Timothy 3:8–13) The LIFE Group should be faith focussed and relationally based. (Hebrews 10:25)

The LIFE Group should have a measurable impact on the community. (Acts 2:47) The LIFE Group should also impact the local Church favourably and positively. The LIFE Group should not be commercially driven. The LIFE Group should have a priority agenda of outreach. HOW WILL THIS AFFECT HOME GROUPS? Not at all. Home Groups will evolve into becoming Family LIFE Groups. Family LIFE Groups will continue to centre around the nucleus of the family, building the Word of God into each others lives (Deuteronomy 4–9) while reaching into the community through evangelism and outreach.

SHARE The first stage of the journey is SHARE. This essentially is sharing the love of God through the Gospel. Primarily for an unbeliever (seekers), this is their first point of contact with Carmel. Our audience is split into three areas:

From the car park to the Coffee Bean coffee shop, facilities must be clearly mapped out for visitors and friends of Carmel, so as to make their time with us a wonderful experience as they encounter the presence of God. Connecting with friends, family and visitors must be our highest priority to make their journey of faith an enjoyable and meaningful one.

Every time the Church gathers together it is an event: to present people with an opportunity to encounter God as Father. From inspired worship to the preaching of the Word, everything must be meticulously planned with the intentional goal of allowing the Holy Spirit to touch the heart of the people. Without a meaningful encounter with God there cannot be purposeful change brought in lifestyle.

YOUTH MINISTRY

CAMPUSES

Preparing this present generation of young people to be the leaders in tomorrow’s Church and nation through related and relevant gatherings and activities.

One Church with many locations across the city where people can readily receive and participate in the events planned to have an encounter with God. The strategy God gave us was to ‘Cover our City,’ we do this through the active participation of partners in the different locations.

Training them to boldly take hold of their future through the biblical principles contained in the Word of God, being doers of the Word and not hearers only.

The move to Hengrove will see the establishment of Carmel City Church South with other sites following.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH Helping our children to have their own spiritual encounter with God so as to live successfully for Christ. Teaching children about their heavenly Father and helping them to discover the gifts that God has placed in them to become world changers. Supporting and undergirding parents in the responsibility to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

CARE The second stage of the journey is CARE. This is essentially for people who have given their lives to the Lord and who need help adjusting to a Christian way of living. These people need access to the many support structures that we have in order for them to become integrated into the church.

Meeting the needs of the body of Christ is as important as seeing the Vision accomplished. Without the partners, the Vision is only a dream. Taking care of the partners at Carmel involves spirit, soul and body that encompasses our social, economical and relational responsibilities.

Home Groups will evolve into becoming Family LIFE Groups which will centre around the nucleus of the family unit. Families gather at convenient times in homes around the city to discuss the Word of God and fellowship together. Family Life Groups will have an outward focus of evangelism and outreach.

LIFE GROUPS

RECREATION

Doing life together through social activities helps the believer find their place in the purpose of God.

Family fun time together is important in any family, for both purpose and play, helping each other develop the social skills to do life. Activities that contribute to this are movie nights, barn dancing, concerts, picnics and many similar activities that involve the whole Church family.

Mentoring for all ages and genders, which is the maturing arm of the Church, extending from study of the Word to the more social and activity base of relationships found in interest groups.

HUMANITARIAN Providing a place where there is material provision for those who really need such support, through The Storehouse and the Good Samaritan Fund. Helping the partners take control of the resources God has given them to properly manage their lives and live debt free to empower them to become contributors towards the needs of others.

Providing further education in a variety of subjects. Reaching out to the wider community through education, whether knowledge based or of a more practical type, serving the community, commending the love of God.

Meeting the ongoing demand for books, CDs and DVDs which in turn promote the growth of the believer, especially in the practical application of their beliefs both in Church and in the community that they live.

CARMEL BIBLE COLLEGE

PRACTICAL MINISTRIES

Providing courses of instruction based on God’s Word that prepare students for service and ministry, developing godly character in an environment which enables the life changing power of God to do its work in each student. The first year course is to establish the foundations of life, a second year to better function in service to the body of Christ. The third year program is for those who believe they are called into full-time ministry.

Training the believer in short-term courses through the ‘Basics’ for foundational doctrine and understanding of the Church and its function. Further teaching the Church to flow in the anointing through prayer helping, counselling, healing and other practical ministry opportunities.

CARMEL ACADEMY Following the ‘Accelerated Christian Education’ system of education, which centres on the Word of God, a child is equipped for life in every area of their development. By providing individual instruction and group activities through the Christ-centred programs of the Christian School, children are prepared for the responsibilities ahead of them, educating them for now and into eternity.
