TABLE OF CONTENTS Restaurant - Giovanni’s Table Restaurant - Chops Stateroom - The 80’s with a modern twist Stateroom - Nido SYD Charette - Exclusivity About Me - Carmen Ferrer

Restaurant - Giovanni’s Table This was an individual project of about a month and a half, where we were given the task to design one of the main restaurants of the Royal cruise lines adapting it to a cruise line of our choice. The concept was the same for every student but we all interpreted it in different ways. I chose to work with Seabourn Quest and got inspired by the fields and landscapes of Tuscany. One of the main difficulties was to do the space planning, since we had to fit two restaurants in the same floorplan and connect them at the entrance but keeping them apart for logistics and environment experience.

Restaurant - Chops Stake House & Grille This was a group project of about a month long, we had to design the other side of the space next to Giovanni’s Table, choosing one of the previous projects of one of the team members. Our team integrated by Shy, Luisa and Carmen (myself), collaborated for every single detail, from identifying who we were (Chroma) to the concept development and the overall design. Each of us apported with the best of our qualities and abilities but also helped with every aspect of the project. One of the challenges I found working in this group project was on the interpretation of the concept and how to choose materials for this design that the other team members would approve.

Stateroom - The 80’s with a modern twist This was an individual project of about three weeks. We had to design a stateroom for a cruise line of our choice and a market of our choice. Being loyal to my previous project done for Seabourn Quest, I chose the same cruise line but a different ship. Designing for the generation X, I found no better concept that something that could remind them of their best years, the 80’s. One of the challenges of this project was to develop the branding and developing the concept within such a small space. We were asked to design the closet that would serve our market, and the wet unit as well.

BRAND & MARKET

THE 80’S WITH A MODERN TWIST

What a better ambiance for generation X than the cool things from the 80’s, the decade they grew up in: colorful, fun and stylish.

Stateroom - Nido: the energy of wellness This project was a charette done in Miami, with a team of six integrated by italian and american students. In four days, the groups had to design a spa inspired stateroom for the Celebrity Infinity ship. Chosen as the team leader, I was the main source of communication among the members of my group. Inspired by coccoons, our concept Nido was to provide that feel of rejuvenation and protection that coccoons give. A unique element of this group was the design of the bed and the open bathroom. This project was divided in two parts, the first part was with the italians which consisted mostly of developing the concept and the feeling of the environment, the second part was to finish the project after returning from the study abroad program.

Super Yacht Design - Exclusivity A unique experience was working in a charette with an italian/american mixed team in a study abroad program. In about three days the teams had to design the common area of a yacht provided by the professors. Designed for a specific person, Frank Stella, the environment had to entertain and give that sense of uniqueness to the guests and the owner of the ship. The main challenge of this group project was working with strong personalities that would disagree in different things, also the fact that this culture does things in a completely different way from americans’ typical procedures.

ABOUT ME

Carmen Ferrer I am a 24 years old cuban american. I left my country at the age of 12 and traveled to a whole new world in Central America, where I learned about a new culture and its customs, as if it wasn’t enough 3 years later I moved to Miami, again going through difficult transitions that mostly were enriching and fullfilling. These experiences and exposure to other cultures are what influence my designs. I have learned from my mother that experiences might come only once in life and it is important to take them and make the most out of it, and from my father that having an education is priceless. I consider myself ambitious, a fighter and a person that likes to get exposed to new roads and adventures. Since a young age I liked communications and visual arts, as I grew up and came to a land full of opportunities I learned about Interior Design and I went for it, spending 6 years studying and learning infinite things, one of them being cruisehsip design. Always with the dream of traveling to Europe, architecture school gave me the opportunity and I got exposed to a world that I am still not enough familiarized with. Now after finishing my masters in Interior architecture I feel eager to keep learning on a new land about a new subject... Naval and Super Yacht Design. I hope I can be a good asset for anyone in this industry that desires to give me a chance to prove my worth.
