INFORMACIÓN BÁSICA El Municipio de Chihuahua, comprende 9,219 km² del Estado más grande de la República Mexicana, que abarca 247.460 km²; superficie que representa un poco más del 12% del territorio del País.

El paisaje de planicie de la ciudad está rodeado de lomeríos, montañas y cerros en su mayoría de origen volcánico. Por ejemplo, la Sierra de Nombre de Dios donde se formaron unas grutas que llevan el mismo nombre; así como los emblemáticos Cerros El Coronel, Grande, De La Cruz, Santa Rosa y la Sierra de Santa Eulalia, todas ellas geoformas importantes que contienen la vida cotidiana de citadinos y visitantes.

Hidrografía** La ciudad es atravesada por dos ríos: el Chuvíscar que nace en la Sierra El Tambor a una altura aproximada de 2300 msnm y el Sacramento que nace en la Sierra Alta localizada al noreste de la ciudad. Orography The city of Chihuahua is nestled between valleys and mountains on the east side of the Occidental Sierra Madre, in the limits of the transition zone to the Chihuahuan Desert. The plain landscape of the city is surrounded by low hills, mostly of volcanic origin. For example, the Sierra Nombre de Dios, where some caverns exist; as well as the emblematic Cerros Colonel, Grande, De La Cruz, Santa Rosa and the Santa Eulalia Sierra, all important geoforms containing the daily life of city’s inhabitants and visitors.

Hydrography The city is crossed by two rivers: the Chuvíscar born in the Sierra El Tambor, 7,546 feet height, and the Sacramento born in the High Sierra located northeast of the city. The Chuviscar, after crossing the city, joins the Sacramento, right at the junction of the Sacramento and Teófilo Borunda roads. Of these two rivers, the stream is stored in the Chuvíscar, Chihuahua, San Marcos and Rejon dams.

WHAT DOES “CHIHUAHUA” MEAN? A lo largo de los años, se ha investigado sobre el significado de la palabra Chihuahua, solo que al arribo de los conquistadores, las tribus nativas fueron desplazadas o asimiladas, y al perderse las lenguas, se fue la posibilidad de conocer con certeza dicho significado. PALACIO DE GOBIERNO El Palacio de Gobierno es una bella obra arquitectónica del siglo XIX proyectada por el Ing. Pedro Ignacio Irigoyen, fue inaugurado en 1892. En el patio central se encuentra el Altar a la Patria, sitio exacto donde fue fusilado el Padre de la Patria Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. Cuenta además con el Museo de la Independencia y la Galería de Armas. En su patio central, el pintor Aarón Piña Mora plasmó en murales, la historia de Chihuahua desde la conquista hasta la revolución. En la segunda planta luce otra obra mural con temas alusivos a las actividades económicas de la región./The Government Palace is a beautiful architectural work of the nineteenth century projected by Pedro Ignacio Irigoyen, it was inaugurated in 1892. CASA CHIHUAHUA Y CALABOZO DE DON MIGUEL HIDALGO Y COSTILLA El monumental edificio fue restaurado en el año 2007, convirtiéndose en un centro de cultural exponiendo en sus salas el patrimonio arqueológico, histórico, etnográfico, natural y artístico del Estado de Chihuahua; es también un museo de sitio que narra la historia del Antiguo Palacio Federal, incluyendo el calabozo donde permaneció prisionero el Padre de la Patria, Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla./This monumental building dates back from 1910, it was restored in 2007, becoming a Cultural Center, It contains the archaeological, historical, ethnographic, natural and artistic heritage of the State of Chihuahua; this museum tells the history of the old Federal Palace, including the dungeon where the Father of the Nation, Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla remained a prisoner until the day of his execution.

MUSEO EX-HACIENDA DE EL SAUZ (MUSEO DE APACHES Y VAQUEROS) El Museo de El Sauz, dedicado a los Apaches y a los Vaqueros, es la culminación de un proyecto que surgió por iniciativa de vecinos de este poblado, descendientes de vaqueros y nativos de la región que fue originalmente territorio Apache. Aquí se enaltecen estas dos culturas que no pudieron subsistir juntas. Asimismo, con la restauración de la finca que fue propiedad de Don Luis Terrazas, se hace honor a los primeros hacendados, que llegaron a darle origen a la ganadería chihuahuense./ Museum El Sauz, is dedicated to the apaches and the cowboys, is the culmination of a project that came as initiative of the village residents, most of them cowboys and native descendants.This region was originally, an apache territory. MUSEO DEL MAMUT El Presidente Porfirio Díaz colocó la primer piedra de este edificio en 1909, sirvió de escuela primaria hasta mediados del siglo XX. A partir del 2004 se convirtió en el Museo del Mamut, ícono de la prehistoria. Su contenido le permitirá aprender sobre las eras del planeta Tierra y su evolución, se muestran formas de vida fosilizadas, de cuando éste territorio era parte del mar de Tetis, y te invita a descubrir cómo fue que se formó el Desierto Chihuahuense./In 1909, the former President Porfirio Diaz laid the first stone of this building, it originally served as an elementary school until mid-twentieth century.

Since 2004 it became the Mammoth museum, a prehistory icon. CENTRO DE DESARROLLO CULTURAL El Centro de Desarrollo Cultural es un espacio que busca acercar a la ciudadanía a las distintas manifestaciones artísticas y culturales del Municipio de Chihuahua.

A través de exposiciones museográficas temporales y otras muestras artísticas, este espacio muestra la gran riqueza cultural que va desde el arte universal hasta la cultura popular, fomentando así el respeto a la diversidad./This is a space that brings citizens to various artistic and cultural events held by the Municipality of Chihuahua. CASA JUÁREZ, MUSEO DE LA LEALTAD REPUBLICANA Fue el primer recinto oficial del Gobierno del Estado. En 1864 el Presidente de la República Benito Juárez le dio carácter de Palacio Nacional. Entre 1865 y 1866 fue la residencia oficial del Presidente y sus ministros. Actualmente es un museo donde se exhiben documentos originales firmados por Benito Juárez y una réplica del carruaje que utilizó don Benito durante su recorrido por el Estado de Chihuahua./The building contained the first State Government official offices. In 1864, President Benito Juarez converted into the National Palace. Between 1865 and 1866 it was the official residence of the President and his ministers. Now as a museum, displays original documents signed

by Benito Juarez, and a replica of the carriage he used, during his journey through the state of Chihuahua.

MUSEO TARIKE Su exposición permanente muestra las distintas etapas de la historia de la ciudad bajo los temas: Chihuahua Prehispánico, La Apachería, La Independencia, La Invasión Estadounidense y El Porfiriato. Su contenido es muy didáctico y obliga la visita a quienes deseen aprender más sobre Patrimonio e Historia Regional. CASA REDONDA (MUSEO CHIHUAHUENSE DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO) Originalmente formó parte de los talleres del Ferrocarril Central Mexicano . Se encuentra a un costado del Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones de Chihuahua entre la Colonia Industrial y el barrio de Santo Niño; cuenta con una sala de exhibición permanente donde se muestra la historia del ferrocarril en México. Además, posee salas para exhibiciones temporales donde se han expuesto colecciones de renombre internacional./This construction originally formed part of the Mexican Central Railroad workshops. It is located next the Convention and Exposition Center, between the old Industrial and Santo Niño subdivisions; It has a permanent exhibition with the history of the railroad in Mexico, also, it has halls for itinerant exhibitions, some of internationally renowned collections.

CASA SIGLO XIX Perteneció al empresario Juan Terrazas, quien la destinó al comercio de diversos rubros. Fue adquirida y restaurada por el Ayuntamiento de Chihuahua entre 1992 y 1995 para destinarla a la promoción cultural. Posteriormente se instaló en ella una galería de arte con obras del notable artista chihuahuense “Sebastián”, así como las oficinas del Instituto de Cultura del Municipio de Chihuahua./It belonged to businessman Juan Terrazas, who used it for different commercial purposes. It was bought and restored by the city of Chihuahua between 1992 and 1995 to be used as a cultural center. Later it became the perfect place to display the works of one of the most remarkable Chihuahuan artist “Sebastian”, as well as the offices of the Institute of Culture of the Municipality of Chihuahua.

QUINTA LUZ O CASA DE VILLA (MUSEO DE LA REVOLUCIÓN MEXICANA) Fue construida para ser utilizada por el matrimonio Villa, Doña Luz Corral, su esposa, la habitó hasta su muerte que sucedió en 1981. En 1982 la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, la convirtió en Museo de la Revolución Mexicana, como fueron los deseos de Doña Luz. En la casona se exhiben objetos que pertenecieron al General Francisco Villa y a la famosa División del Norte, destacando el auto que manejaba el propio General Villa cuando fue emboscado en Hidalgo del Parral./The house was built for his wife, Dona Luz Corral, she lived in it until 1981, the date of her passing. POLIFORUM CULTURAL UNIVERSITARIO (RECTORÍA DE LA UACH) Espacio dedicado a rendir homenaje a los mejores representantes de la plástica chihuahuense. QUINTA GAMEROS Perteneció al Ingeniero Manuel Gameros, quien encomendó su construcción al arquitecto Colombiano Julio Corredor, proceso que abarcó de 1907 a 1909. Posteriormente fue adquirida por el Gobierno del Estado, el cual la destinó a las oficinas de Justicia y Educación. Tuvo otros usos incluyendo el de Rectoría de la UACH y fue sede de las facultades de Ingeniería y Derecho. Actualmente es el Centro Cultural de los universitarios, sirviendo de escenario para distintas expresiones artísticas, además de contar con salas donde se exhibe una exquisita colección de muebles estilo art noveau, contando con salas para exposiciones itinerantes./The home belonged to Engineer Don Manuel Gameros, who commissioned its construction to Colombian architect Julio Corredor, process that spanned from 1907 to 1910.

It was acquired by the State Government which assigned to hold offices of Justice and Education. Later had other uses including the Rectory of the University, it hosted the faculties of Engineering and Law. It serves currently as the University’s Cultural Center, being a magnificent stage for the most diverse artistic expressions.

The mansion has some rooms exhibiting the most exquisite collection of art nouveau style furniture, and has halls to receive itinerant collections.

Cueva de Las Monas Esta cueva con pintura rupestres está localizada al norte de la ciudad. Se observan dibujos alusivos al ritual de la raspa del peyote, ceremonia sumamente privada que en la actualidad se sigue practicando entre los Rarámuri. Hay pinturas de autoría de los apache de la rama Chiricahua, son de carácter ceremonial y seguramente relacionadas con sus leyendas; en ellas podemos apreciar las huellas del oso grizzli y es muy probable que se hubieran usado las garras de este animal para pintar sobre la piedra./This cave with ancient paintings is located north of the city. Drawings are allusive to the sacred peyote scraping ritual. Among the Raramuri, this ceremony is still being practiced up to present days. PARQUE EL ENCINO Representa un nuevo espacio de esparcimiento para prácticas deportivas.

Se compone de un sendero de 8km de extensión, que consta de dos carriles habilitados para el trote y paseo en bicicleta, en pleno contacto con la naturaleza. El Encino forma parte del proyecto “Tres Presas” que busca construir un mega parque uniendo las tres presas que se encuentran por la zona: el Rejón, la Chihuahua y la Chuvíscar. PLAZA MAYOR (PLAZA DEL ÁNGEL) El espacio de la macroplaza estaba ocupado originalmente por antiguas construcciones que con los años fueron perdiendo utilidad, sin permitir el lucimiento de los edificios emblemáticos de la Capital. El espacio que se recuperó y la amplia plaza se utiliza para la realización de eventos cívicos y artísticos, principalmente las Fiestas Patrias. La escultura que representa al “Ángel de la Libertad” es obra de Ricardo Ponzanelli, está montada sobre un pedestal giratorio y de su espada sale un rayo láser. PARQUE METROPOLITANO EL REJÓN Alrededor de la presa se puede disfrutar de un paseo de 6.5km. Cuenta con una pista de ciclismo, un carril de arcilla para los corredores, tirolesas, canoas con remos y una zona ambientada agradablemente con áreas recreativas y espacios verdes que fomentan la convivencia familiar. PLAZA HIDALGO Esta plaza se trazó en los años del nacimiento de la ciudad de Chihuahua; a principios del Siglo XIX se le conocía como “Plaza San Felipe”. Las estatuas que se localizan en las cuatro esquinas fueron realizadas en Bruselas, su inauguración se llevó a cabo en Septiembre de 1889. El obelisco central sostiene la estatua de Don Miguel Hidalgo y en la base, honra a los insurgentes que fueron juzgados y ejecutados en Chihuahua en 1811./This square was laid in the early years of the city’s foundation. El kiosco fue traído de París, siendo inaugurado en 1897. Como elementos decorativos hay tres gárgolas híbridas, también de facturación francesa. En sus esquinas lucen estatuas representativas de las estaciones del año. PARQUE REVOLUCIÓN (MAUSOLEO DE VILLA) El General Francisco Villa, se mandó construir el mausoleo, en lo que fue el antiguo “Panteón de Nuestra Señora de la Regla”, mismo que fue clausurado por órdenes del General, con el ordenamiento de que no se volvieran a inhumar cadáveres en dicho sitio. Con el paso de los años, se convirtió en un jardín público. Actualmente, durante las noches es punto de reunión de restaurantes ambulantes (Food Trucks) y en el día es sede de actividades culturales y mercados al aire libre./The General Francisco Villa ordered the building of his mausoleum, in what was the old “Pantheon of Our Lady”, shortly after was closed. PARQUE EL ACUEDUCTO Legado de la época del Virreinato, el acueducto fue una construcción de 5km de extensión que se realizó en respuesta a las necesidades de la creciente población. Se comenzó a construir en septiembre de 1751, traía el agua desde la presa Chuvíscar hasta la plaza de Armas. Con los años, cayó en desuso y se fue destruyendo, afortunadamente se rescataron algunos tramos y se formó el “Parque el Acueducto”.

PARQUE EL PALOMAR El tradicional barrio de El Palomar dio nombre a este parque donde se localizan varias estatuas. Las más conocidas son: la del actor Anthony Quinn, el Toro de la Raza Criolla de Chihuahua y la del filósofo José Vasconcelos. En este sitio se localiza la rotonda de los Maestros Ilustres. Se cuenta además con una concha acústica que es utilizada para diversos eventos artísticos. CIUDAD DEPORTIVA Este complejo deportivo fue inaugurado en 1949 por el entonces Presidente de la República Miguel Alemán, a su vez es sede del Campus I de la Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua. Cuenta con una alberca olímpica, canchas de tenis, un estadio olímpico y un estadio de beisbol. Su perímetro está conformado por una pista de 2km para caminatas y trote. PASEO SIMÓN BOLÍVAR Fue conocido originalmente como “Paseo de los Héroes” y como “Paseo del Porvenir”, posteriormente se le dio el nombre del “Libertador Simón Bolívar”. En 1917 se pavimentó la vialidad que hoy conocemos como Paseo Bolívar que por muchos años fue el límite de la ciudad, ahí se construyeron en sus lados varias fincas emblemáticas como las Quintas Gameros y Touché. PARROQUIA SAN JUAN BAUTISTA En marzo de 1598 el adelantado Juan de Oñate y sus acompañantes que iban camino a conquistar el territorio conocido hoy como Nuevo México, acamparon en el lugar donde actualmente está el barrio de Nombre de Dios, los curas que lo acompañaban celebraron misa en una construcción provisional de palos y ramas. Otros exploradores llegaron a este lugar el día 24 de Junio, día de San Juan Bautista, tomando a ese santo por patrono del templo que fue edificado ya con materiales más duraderos, llamándole “Templo de Nombre de Dios”./In March 1598 the advance Juan de Onate and his companions camped in this place, while going their way to conquer the territory known today as New Mexico. CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA Su primera piedra fue colocada en 1725 y se inauguró hasta 1826. Cuenta con una capilla anexa dedicada a Nuestra Señora de Fátima. En su fachada principal adornan esculturas talladas en cantera, que representan a San Francisco, San José y el Niño, y a los 12 Apóstoles. La Catedral está considerada como una de las mejores muestras del barroco en el norte del país. Originalmente siendo una iglesia parroquial, tuvo el nombre de “ San Francisco de Asís y Nuestra Señora de la Regla”. TEMPLO DE SAN FRANCISCO La construcción más antigua de la ciudad de Chihuahua, pues su cúpula se concluyó en 1741. Cuenta con una capilla anexa dedicada a San Antonio de Padua, aquí permaneció sepultado por más de 11 años el cuerpo decapitado del Padre de la Patria. Existen a la fecha, extraordinarias tallas de madera del Siglo XVIII que pertenecieron a la Iglesia del Colegio de Jesuitas. TEMPLO DE LA SAGRADA FAMILIA Este templo construido principalmente con muros de adobe y recubrimiento de cantera fue finalizado en 1906 y reedificado a principios de 1909. El 16 de Marzo de ese mismo aĂąo fue bendecido. En un tiempo fue considerado como casa de ejercicios espirituales de los estudiantes del seminario./This church was built mainly with adobe walls covered with quarry. IGLESIA DE SANTA RITA En el período en el que se construyó este templo estaba en propiedad privada. Funcionó en sus terrenos una fundidora de metales popularmente conocida como “La Hacienda del Cura”. Fue bendecida en 1731, su construcción refleja un austero estilo barroco.

El Obispo de Chihuahua la recibió en 1949, procediendo a su inmediata apertura al público./This temple was built in private property, it was blessed as early as 1731. TEMPLO DEL SAGRADO CORAZÓN DE JESÚS El proyecto inicial surgió en 1909, su construcción dio inicio en el año 1921. Debido a diferencias entre el Gobierno Federal y el Episcopado Mexicano durante la Guerra Cristera, (1926 a 1929), se fue construyendo en etapas, lográndose concluir hasta 1939./The initial project began in 1909, but construction in its usual site began until 1921.

IGLESIA MARONITA DE SAN CHÁRBEL El nombre de “Maronitas” tiene su origen en el Siglo IV, en el que vivió un monje ermitaño llamado Marón, cuyos discípulos fueron grandes defensores de la ortodoxia cristiana, conocidos también por su virtud y sabiduría. La comunidad libanesa está conformada por emigrantes del Líbano que llegaron a México y se repartieron por todo el país. Chihuahua es la ciudad donde se encuentra el templo maronita más importante de América Latina./The name “Maronites” originated in the fourth century by a hermit monk, also known for his virtue and wisdom, his disciples were great defenders of Christian Orthodoxy. SANTUARIO DE GUADALUPE En 1793 se iniciaron los trabajos de construcción del templo, habiéndose inaugurado y bendecido el 11 de diciembre de 1825 con una actividad religiosa dedicada a la Patrona de México. En el atrio de este templo se conservan los vestigios de uno de los primeros panteones de Chihuahua, ahí permanecen sepultados el General Luis Terrazas y su esposa./In 1793 the construction of this temple began, it was inaugurated and blessed on December 11, 1825 with a Holy Mass dedicated to our Lady of Guadalupe. PALACIO MUNICIPAL Anteriormente existió en el lugar un edificio de 13 arcos conocido como “Casas Consistoriales”, su construcción se inició en 1722. En 1906, los ingenieros Esperón, Giles y el arquitecto Julio Corredor presentaron el proyecto del Palacio Municipal. Su inauguración fue el 4 de octubre de 1907, estando a cargo del Gobierno Constitucional de Enrique Creel. Posteriormente se agregó al palacio municipal los espacios laterales de la calle Victoria y Libertad, que años antes habían sido vendidos a particulares./ Previously existed in this place a building with 13 arches known as “Town Hall”, its construction began in 1722. in 1906, engineers Esperón and Giles and architect Julio Corredor presented the project for a new City Hall. CASA DE DON LUIS TERRAZAS Construida a fines del siglo XIX por el ingeniero Ignacio Irigoyen, originalmente fue casa-habitación de Don Luis Terrazas. Ha tenido varios usos como: el internado de niñas del Colegio América, Casa de la Asegurada e Instituto Mexicano Norteamericano de Relaciones Culturales. En 1979 el Grupo Chihuahua lo restauró y sostuvo como un centro de difusión cultural, conservando desde entonces una colección artística de Paquimé. Actualmente funciona como el restaurante La Casona, donde se celebran diversos eventos gastronómicos y se deleita a los paladares más exigentes./Built in late nineteenth century by the engineer Ignacio Irigoyen, it was originally the residence of Don Luis Terrazas and his numerous family. It also had various uses such as: Boarding house for girls attending the America Institute; House of the Insured and Mexican American Institute of Cultural Relations. In 1979 the Chihuahua Group restored the building, keeping it as a center for cultural diffusion, preserving since then, an art collection of original pieces of the Paquimé culture. Currently works as La Casona Restaurant where various gastronomic events are held for the delights of the most demanding palates.

QUINTA CAROLINA En noviembre de 1896, el General Luis Terrazas le obsequió a su esposa Carolina Cuilty una hermosa casa de campo construida en el mismo espacio que había ocupado la antigua Labor de Trías. La residencia quedó bautizada como la Quinta Carolina y su inauguración fue un gran acontecimiento en la vida social de Chihuahua. Por muchos años estuvo abandonada y hasta hace un par de meses, se terminó una muy bien lograda restauración para dotar a la ciudad de un foro cultural para beneficio principalmente de las colonias del norte de la Capital./In November 1896 General Luis Terrazas gave his wife Carolina Cuilty a very beautiful gift, a country house built in the same space that had occupied the former Labor Trias farm. The residence was dubbed “Carolina” and its opening was a major event in Chihuahua’s social life. For many years it was abandoned and vandalized. Only six months ago, a very fortunate restoration was completed, the mansion was turned into a cultural forum, to provide its neighbours with an art school, for the benefit mainly of the youngster inhabiting the northern parts of the city.

TEATRO DE LA CIUDAD (CINE TEATRO COLONIAL) Antes de convertirse en el teatro de la ciudad, fue el Teatro Betancourt y el Teatro Centenario, sin embargo ambos fueron consumidos por incendios en 1904 y 1938. El Cine Colonial fue inaugurado en marzo de 1947, proyectando la película “El extraño amor de Martha Ivers”. En septiembre de 1950 fue declarado recinto oficial para la ceremonia de cambio de poderes. Restaurado meticulosamente por el Ayuntamiento de Chihuahua 1998-2001, es considerada una joya arquitectónica que forma parte del patrimonio cultural del Municipio de Chihuahua./Before becoming the city’s theater, it was the Betancourt and later the Centenary Theater, yet both were consumed by fires in 1904 and 1938. the Colonial theater was inaugurated in March 1947, projecting the film “the strange love of Martha Ivers”. CONGRESO DEL ESTADO El sitio original estaba ocupado por construcciones de adobe y cantera de una sola planta, y muchos años después se contrató la construcción del actual edificio que fue proyectado por el arquitecto Mario Panni. Funcionó en dicho edificio un hotel de cadena y hace pocos años el Gobierno del Estado lo adquirió para que se instalara ahí el Poder Legislativo./The original site was occupied by only one level adobe and quarry buildings.

EX HACIENDA DE SAN JOSÉ DE EL TORREÓN El registro más antiguo que se tiene de la existencia de La Ex Hacienda de El Torreón data de 1800. En sus muros se encuentran líneas que registraban las transacciones realizadas con las cargas de grano, ya que los trabajadores no sabían leer. Los extensivos trabajos de restauración por parte de Municipio de Chihuahua y el Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia han logrado rescatar gran parte de esta maravillosa obra arquitectónica, que forma parte de los nuevos circuitos turísticos de la ciudad./ The oldest record we have of the existence of the Ex Hacienda El Torreon dates back from 1800. Lines drawn on its walls show how the transactions records were kept, since workers didn’t know how to read or write. Extensive restoration works by the Municipality of Chihuahua and the National Institute of Anthropology and History, have managed to rescue most of this wonderful architectural work, now it is part of the new tourist circuits of the city.

ANTONIO DEZA Y ULLOA La ciudad de Chihuahua se fundó gracias al ilustre personaje que fue Gobernador y Capitán General de la Nueva Vizcaya en la época del Virreinato. Fue así como un 12 de Octubre de 1709, se bautizó a la villa con el nombre de Real de Minas de San Francisco de Cuéllar. Este monumento fue ordenado por el Ayuntamiento de Chihuahua al escultor Humberto Pedroza./The city of Chihuahua was founded thanks to this illustrious personage who, was Governor and Captain General of the New Vizcay, he decided to found the city on October 12th, 1709. The borning villa was baptized with the name of Real de Minas of San Francisco de Cuellar. This monument was ordered by the city of Chihuahua to Sculptor Humberto Pedroza. The founder is finally honored, and it is placed in front of the Cathedral.

MONUMENTO A FRANCISCO VILLA Inaugurado el 16 de septiembre de 1956, este bronce fue encargado al escultor chihuahuense Don Ignacio Asúnsolo. Esta estatua ecuestre simboliza a la División del Norte, que comandó el General Francisco Villa durante la etapa más importante de la Revolución Mexicana. Constituye un homenaje de los chihuahuenses dedicado a los hombres que lucharon por un México mejor./Unveiled on September 16, 1956, this bronze was commissioned to a famous chihuahuan sculptor, Don Ignacio Asúnsolo. ANTHONY QUINN Esta estatua es un homenaje al “chihuahuense universal”: Anthony Quinn, quien nació el 21 de abril de 1915 en esta ciudad, es considerado como uno de los actores más importantes del siglo XX. RELOJ LIBANÉS Tiene una placa conmemorativa con la siguiente dedicatoria de la comunidad Libanesa al pueblo de Chihuahua: “Este reloj marca el tiempo del progreso y la recompensa con manecillas fraternales que señalan las horas por vivir y por perpetuar nuestro más sincero agradecimiento. Centro Libanés de México”. Fue reubicado en el año de 1995, en homenaje a quienes forman parte de nuestras raíces./As a tribute to those who are now part of our roots, the Lebanese Community built a public clock for the City. On its base, the plaque reads the following inscription: From the Lebanese community to the people of Chihuahua, “This clock marks time and rewards progress with fraternal hands, pointing hours to live and to perpetuate our sincere gratitude. Lebanese Center of Mexico”.

It was relocated in the year 1995 in a small park by the beginning of the Paseo Bolivar.

ESTATUA DEL INDIO VICTORIO Victorio fue un jefe indio de la tribu de los Chiricahuas. Desde joven empezó a participar en las correrías para robar ganado, junto con otros notables líderes como Nana, Mangas Coloradas y Gerónimo. Victorio se consolidó como el líder de una tribu de aproximadamente 300 guerreros. En el año de 1879 fue perseguido por la caballería norteamericana y se internó en la serranía de Chihuahua, se refugió junto con su gente en un lugar llamado Tres Castillos, donde el 14 de octubre de 1880 lo encontraron las tropas mexicanas y ahí se dio la última de las batallas, el ejército mexicano terminó con la vida de todos los bravos, incluído Victorio./Victorio was an Indian chief of the Chiricahua tribe. From young age, he began participating in raids to steal cattle, along with other notable Apache leaders such as Nana, Mangas Coloradas and Geronimo.

Victorio was consolidated as the leader of a tribe of about 300 warriors. In 1879 he was pursued by the American cavalry and went into the mountains of Chihuahua, fled with his people in a place called Tres Castillos, where on October 14, 1880 he was found by the Mexican troops. In the site, the Mexican Army took the lives of all the brave, Victorio included.

CARNE SECA/BEEF JERKY Es uno de los alimentos de mayor tradición en Chihuahua, siendo una técnica de deshidratación de la carne que fue desarrollada como método de conservación de los alimentos debido al clima desértico y adverso que existe en el norte de México. Es de consistencia dura y tiene forma curva (parecida un poco al chicharrón). Se puede servir como botana, como plato fuerte o puede espolvorear pedazos de carne seca sobre sopas y ensaladas. La manera más típica de consumir este producto es con huevo, un platillo conocido como “machaca de huevo”./Beef jerky is one of the most traditional meals in Chihuahua, made with a dehydration technique that originated as a conservation method given the extreme heat of the desert’s temperatures. It has a hard consistency, slightly curved with a strong, peculiar flavor. It can be served as a snack, main dish, or sprinkled over soups and salads. The typical way to consume it is mixed with eggs, a dish known as “egg machaca”.

CHILE CHILACA/CHILACA PEPPER Los Chihuahuenses lo consumen asado, le retiran la piel y las semillas y en ocasiones lo cortan en rajas para sazonar diversos platillos como los tacos, los tamales y como complemento para otros guisos. Igualmente es utilizado para elaborar salsas y chiles rellenos. La mayor producción a nivel nacional de esta variedad de chile es cosechado en el Estado./This is a local type of pepper. Chihuahuans like to roast it over mesquite charcoal, specially during the Sunday’s barbeque with friends or family. Once roasted, we remove the skin and seeds and slice it to add flavor to various dishes such as corn or flour tacos, tamales, or as complement to other delicacies. It is also used to make sauces and stuffed cheese peppers. Most of national production of this chile is harvested in our state.

JAMONCILLO/MILK CARAMEL El jamoncillo es un dulce tradicional de Chihuahua hecho en base de azúcar y leche. Es de color café claro, que en ocasiones se mezcla con nuez picada. Los dulces de Parral son los más famosos, es común que en el centro histórico, la mayoría de las dulcerías lo vendan./The jamoncillo is a traditional dessert made out of fresh milk and sugar, after cooked, it turns light brown; sometimes it is mixed with chopped pecans. QUESO MENONITA/ MENNONITE CHEESE La comunidad Menonita es famosa por su dedicación al trabajo, sobresale la producción del exquisito quesos. En la zona de Cuauhtémoc es donde se elaboran diariamente alrededor de tres toneladas y media de queso tipo Chester. SANTA EULALIA A 20 Km de la ciudad sobre la carretera que va hacia sur se encuentra Santa Eulalia, pueblo minero que es cuna de la ciudad de Chihuahua. Es una de las poblaciones más antiguas del estado. En 1652 el capitán español Diego del Castillo descubrió una importante veta de plata. Fue tal la riqueza de su mina, que muy pronto se podría haber convertido en un Real de Minas; solo que por su ubicación en medio de la montaña, hizo que el gobernador de la Nueva Vizcaya, Don Antonio de Deza y Ulloa, decidiera que el Real se estableciera no en la misma población sino en el valle cercano, dándose así la fundación de la Ciudad de Chihuahua./The town is located 12 miles to the south. This mining town is also known as the cradle to Chihuahua City. In 1652, Spanish Captain Diego del Castillo found a major silver vein. PARQUE AVENTURA BARRANCAS DEL COBRE El Parque de Aventura “Barrancas del Cobre” está ubicado en las inmediaciones de la Estación del ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico conocida como “El Divisadero”.

Es uno de los Parques de Montaña más impresionantes del mundo, ya que cuenta con un conjunto de 7 tirolesas y dos puentes colgantes para sumar casi 5 kilómetros de recorrido, una vía ferrata que consta de rappel, escalada en roca y un pequeño puente colgante al que se accede por medio de un salto de tarzán, un restaurante con espectaculares terrazas y piso de cristal, milenarios senderos para caminar, renta de bicicletas de montaña, espacios para acampar, y el tercer teleférico más largo del mundo, con 3 kilómetros de cable sin torres intermedias. La última atracción que se agregó es un zipline o tirolesa que va paralela al teleférico, son 2650 metros de cable, a una altura que supera los 400 metros, y que se cubre en cosa de tres minutos. Es fabulosa la experiencia literal de volar./The Adventure Park is located near “El Divisadero” of the Chihuahua Pacific railway station. It is one of the most impressive Mountain Parks in the world, as it has a set of 7 zip lines and two suspension bridges to add 3 miles, a via ferrata consisting of rappelling, rock climbing and a small hanging bridge accessed by a Tarzan jump; a restaurant with spectacular terraces and glass floor; ancient walking trails, mountain bike rental, camping sites, and the world’s third longest cableway, with 1.8 miles cable without intermediate towers. The last attraction added is a 1.65 miles long zip line that runs parallel to the cable car at a height of over 1300 feet, only one jump, and you will literally be flying.

MUSEO MENONITA En los alrededores de ciudad Cuauhtémoc, se encuentra la comunidad de Menonitas más numerosa de México. Iniciando su travesía desde Canadá, los Menonitas llegaron a Chihuahua en 1922, trayendo consigo un gran conocimiento en la producción agrícola y en la elaboración de productos lácteos. PAQUIMÉ Paquimé es el sitio arqueológico más importante al norte de la República Mexicana. Fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Es un sitio que se encuentra a 350 km al noroeste de la ciudad de Chihuahua en el área de Casas Grandes. En su tiempo fue una gran ciudad dedicada al comercio de objetos como turquesas y otras piedras semipreciosas, sal, conchas, cerámica, cobre y plumas de guacamaya.Sus edificios construidos con un sistema de lodo colado, semejaban haber sido edificados por los antiguos romanos por la tecnología aplicada en los edificios de gran tamaño con torres y muros como fortalezas además de contar con un sofisticado sistema de distribución de agua potable, caliente y fría./Paquimé is the most important archaeological site in the north of Mexico.It was declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. It is located in Casas Grandes, 190 miles northwest of Chihuahua City. It flourished from 650 to 1450 AC. It was a city dedicated to trade objects such as turquoise and other semiprecious stones; salt, shells, pottery, copper and macaw feathers. Its earthy mud buildings, resembled being built with the knowledge of ancient Romans. The advanced technology applied in their buildings with towers and fortress like walls, along with the sophisticated indoor water distribution system, are still amazing visitors.
