Founded in 1960, Berkeley Preparatory School is a co-educational, Episcopal affiliated, independent, college preparatory school with a current enrollment of 1,300 students in grades PreK through 12. Berkeley educates the whole child by nurturing students’ intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical development so they may attain their highest potential. Director of Alumni Relations: As a key member of Berkeley’s Advancement team, reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Alumni Relations directs and manages all aspects of the Alumni Annual Giving and Alumni Relations program. This position will leverage alumni relations efforts into increased volunteer and financial support for Berkeley. Berkeley has an ever-expanding endowment of approximately $17 million, with nearly 40 endowed funds, producing nearly a million dollars in earnings each year. Berkeley hosts three major fundraising events and numerous smaller events for alumni.
Major Functions and Responsibilities: Manage the Alumni Annual Giving program including the Alumni Annual Giving Committee and Alumni Class Representatives; Manage Alumni Relations, including the Alumni Association, its leadership group, the Alumni Executive Committee and its sub-committees; Manage the strategic plan for the Alumni Association; Expand and enhance volunteer programs for Berkeley alumni and work cooperatively with members of the school community on behalf of the Institutional Advancement and Alumni Offices; Identify, recruit, train, manage, and provide recognition for alumni representatives, reunion volunteers, and others; Co-edit the biannual Berkeley Magazine Create targeted alumni events to serve the needs of alumni, including annual reunion, regional gatherings, and assorted special events; Develop and manage a budget for the alumni programs Supervise the Alumni Engagement Coordinator, who manages social media channels, Student Alumni Relations Committee and the alumni website.
Experience and Skills: Substantial experience and a proven track record of success in the management and direction of Alumni Relations. 3 – 5 years alumni relations experience or relevant advancement experience. Demonstrated significant volunteer management experience. Knowledge of educational fundraising culture is an asset. Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally. Ability to work independently and as a member of a high performance team in a fastpaced environment. Ability to work with senior administrators and faculty on a collegial basis. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Excellent written and oral communication skills Well versed in alumni trends in higher/independent school education. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: The appointment is a full-time, year round, administrative position and the compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment and the national independent school and college markets.
