CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER KING ABDULLAH ACADEMY HERNDON, VA http://www.kaa-herndon.com/ OVERVIEW: King Abdullah Academy is seeking an experienced financial professional to lead our business office. The position will report to the Head of School and work closely with, the administrative leadership team, Board, technology dept. and key Board committees. This full-time position is available for immediate hire. SCHOOL BACKGROUND: King Abdullah Academy (KAA) is a new, state-of-the-art international PK-12 school in suburban Virginia, just 25 miles outside Washington, D.C. King Abdullah Academy is designed to accommodate a student population of 1,200 students, and has started the 2016-2017 school year with 900 students, grades K-12. The new King Abdullah Academy is, in part, a replacement for the existing Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, which permanently closed its doors in June 2016. Planning for a successful and energetic start to King Abdullah Academy is being led by Founding Executive Principal - Mr. Chris Faisandier. Under his leadership, the school provides an innovative curriculum, and organizational and staffing structures. King Abdullah Academy will serve students and families seeking a high-quality contemporary education in both Arabic and English in a school with a strong culture shaped by Islamic values, and where core Islamic teachings are taught and respected within an academic framework of globally relevant International Baccalaureate programs and an innovative e-STEM-a curriculum. The school will enroll students planning to be at the school from early childhood through high school years as well as those temporarily living in the Washington, D.C. area. POSITION: As a key member of the Senior Administrative team, this position reports to the Head of School and will partner with the Head of School to achieve the school’s vision and mission. The successful Chief Financial Officer will be a strategic leader focused on long-term goals and also able to effectively manage day-to-day operational challenges, who is comfortable in a diverse, cross-cultural environment. The Chief Financial Officer specifically is responsible for the oversight and management of finance and technology. Functional areas of responsibility include budgeting and financial administration, debt management, facilities management, information and communication technology management, security, school transport systems, insurance and risk management, human resources, auxiliary programs, and food services.


RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to embracing King Abdullah Academy’s mission, supporting its Head and leadership, and representing the school at professional and public forums, the Chief Financial Officer has a number of primary responsibilities: •

Oversee the development, administration, and reporting of the operating and long-term budget to the school’s Board of Trustees; Finance Committee; auditors; federal, state, and local authorities; lenders; donors; and various school administrative offices.

Oversee the annual information and communications technology budgeting process, the ICT Manager, and help desk staff.

Oversee all school operations including personnel, maintenance, food service, campus security, health center, neighborhood relations, etc.

Building and/or maintaining the school’s short- and long-term strategic financial models.

Collaborate with the school’s counsel and insurance agents regarding all legal and risk management matters.

Ensure that the school is in compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements.

Oversee the physical plant, grounds, and construction functions; help plan and direct all replacements and renewals of the physical plant.

Publicly represent the school in a positive and proactive way, collaborating with other school administrators and neighbors, Provide sound and consistent employment policies, adequate staffing levels, compensation, and appropriate benefits programs for all facets of school operations.

Help implement and administer all employee benefit programs including health insurance, retirement, worker’s compensation, life insurance, and other related plans.

Collaborate with the Head of School and other senior administrators on providing leadership regarding employee hiring, termination, compensation, and management.

Oversee the annual financial and 403b plan audits and filings of tax returns.

Serve as a member of the Financial Aid Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS & QUALITIES: The school is most interested in candidates who demonstrate the following qualities and qualifications: •

Bachelor’s degree required; M.B.A. preferred.

10-plus years of financial and business leadership.

Strong background in managing and budgeting for information and communications technology.

Experience on senior administrative teams and working with a non-profit Board/organization or a school.

Experience in human resource management, employee benefits (including pension plans), and payroll procedures.

Demonstrated experience in entrepreneurial activities, such as start-ups, product or program expansions and/or growth initiatives, resulting in new, significant revenue streams within a three- to five-year span.

Demonstrated experience in measuring and improving organization-wide productivity.

Demonstrated experience in the development of analysis for strategic decision-making, such as key cost drivers, competitive analysis, market analysis, organizational strengths and weaknesses, etc.

Demonstrated ability to take complex subjects, distill them, and then communicate them to a varied audience.
