Director of Advancement Phillips Brooks School (Menlo Park, California) offers a child-centered education that balances top-notch academics and fully integrated social emotional learning. This senior-level Director of Advancement position reports to the Head of School and is an essential player in realizing this goal. Key Responsibilities
Ø Collaborate with school leadership in creating and driving strategies to effectively message PBS’s brand, values, and reputation for excellence across current and prospective stakeholders. Ø Work collaboratively with the PBS admission, fundraising, and communications staff to develop an integrated and innovative approach to marketing, community relations, and outreach. Ø Work effectively with Trustees, the Board Advancement Committee, and the Administrative Team to establish an advancement strategy that is aligned with the school’s strategic plan. Ø Foster a vibrant culture of philanthropy so that giving of time and financial resources is a joyful and meaningful experience for donors and volunteers. Ø Cultivate and steward lifelong support and donors for the school. Ø Lead the school’s development efforts through soliciting gifts at donor meetings together with the Head of School; strategic planning of the annual fund and benefit; cultivation of major gifts and planned giving; building volunteer teams; and ensuring that the Strategic Development Plan is aligned with school financial goals. Ø Build the foundation for a possible new capital effort. Ø Work closely with the Head of School to set fundraising objectives and solicitation strategies, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.

Ø Bring a strong voice to the Administrative Team to ensure that discussions incorporate an advancement perspective and that program decisions are integrated with the school’s advancement strategy. Ø Bolster PBS connections to its constituent groups, including current students and their parents, employees, donors, alumni, community leaders, and friends. Ø Motivate, coach, and support two members of the Advancement Office: Development Associate and Communications Manager.

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements Ø Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree a plus). Ø Experience with institutional advancement (independent school experience a plus). Ø Proven track record creating and managing a comprehensive development program, including annual giving and benefit, major gift and capital giving programs, volunteer support, and solicitation. Ø Documented success raising money, creating communication strategies, overseeing donor records, and developing financial models for fundraising. Ø Experience mentoring and managing staff. Ø Proven capacity to plan, organize, and implement a variety of projects at the same time and with overlapping deadlines. Ø MS Office for Mac, Raiser’s Edge, Greater Giving, Bidding for Good.
Compensation and Benefits
Ø Full-time, year round, administrative position.
