Assistant Head for External Affairs Founded in 1998, the Stanwich School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school located in Greenwich, CT, 35 miles northeast of New York City. Serving Preschool through Grade 12, Stanwich offers an accelerated curriculum that blends traditional and contemporary approaches to teaching. Stanwich experienced explosive growth until 2008, at which time it settled into an enrollment of between 300-350 students and has established itself among the top academic schools in the region. Stanwich will launch its IBDP program in the fall of 2018 for its Juniors and Seniors. With a supportive community of faculty and staff, Stanwich is dedicated to educating the whole student through focused and individualized instruction. The academic experience is further enriched through vibrant visual and performing arts, competitive athletics, and meaningful service learning. Assistant Head for External Affairs: Reporting to the Head of School, the Assistant Head for External Affairs works closely with the Head of School and the Senior Administrative Team to oversee and coordinate the offices of Admissions, Marketing/Communications, Development, Operations, and Business. Managing a team of 4-8 dedicated professionals, the Assistant Head provides visionary leadership to these programs in

support of the school’s mission, vision, and goals.


Major Functions and Responsibilities:          

Provides direction and support to the Head in fulfilling advancement responsibilities, ensuring prudent use of time. Implements internal and external communications to develop an appreciation of School’s mission, vision and goals Guides marketing efforts to expand and enhance the School's visibility, image, and reputation. Coordinates outreach programs in order to increase and support enrollment. Oversees fundraising activities designed to attract private funds to support Stanwich’s priorities and strategic initiatives. Supports programs and activities directed at local elected officials and community leaders. Leads strategic planning for all offices which is driven by and supports the school’s strategic plan, priorities and goals. Develops policy and directs the ongoing activities of development, admissions, communications, and the business office as they relate to defined goals, procedures, staffing, budget, and timetables. Assists the Head in providing support to the Board of Trustees and its committees, in particular the Facilities, Advancement, and Communications Committees. Maintains strong working relationships with the trustees, faculty, and parents of Stanwich.

Impressive track record in one or more of the covered areas. Successful experience creatively building and leading successful organizations. Demonstrated ability to improve the effectiveness of an organization. Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally. Capacity to contribute to the overall strategic planning of the School. Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement a cohesive strategy for advancement, finances, admissions, and communications. An understanding of the current trends and the issues facing independent schools and appreciation for the unique opportunities provided by independent schools. Ability to work effectively with volunteers and boards. Ability to assert visionary leadership that inspires and motivates others. Exemplary, collegial work ethic Excellent communication skills. Proven ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment. Ability to delegate authority and motivate and empower others. Ability to direct the efforts of staff and hold individuals accountable for the accomplishments of objectives.


Compensation and Benefits: The appointment is a full-time, year round, administrative position and the compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment and the national independent school and college markets.
