Illumina Te
started from the brief ‘An X-peri-ment-tal Pavilion’. The theme of the design, ‘illumination’, came from the derive at the beginning of the project across the city centre: this also hi-lighted a site for the project. The choice of matieral for the deisgn also came from the derive - fabric - due to macro photographs taken during the journey. The result of design was the form of an architectural installation within the Gardens of St. James.

Deriviation & Inital concepts 1. & 3. Photos taken during the derive which I drew inspiration from. 2. The journey of the derive was taken note of. This aided in choosing a location which was the Anglican Cathedral. 4. & 5. A 3D collage was made from items found from the derive to provide the next creative step of the project. 6. A model inspired by the collage & photography. Initial spacial thoughts. 7

14
The Wunderkammer
an elemental collection began with the concept of the Wunderkammer boxes classed as cabinets of curiosities. The choice of matieral for the deisgn also came from the derive - fabric - due to macro photographs taken during the journey. The chosen colletion was the ritual items that wiccans used in their rituals and ceremonies.

‘As for history, the spectre which is always being raised as an enterion, it might be pointed out that fashion, the ephemeral shares the last laugh with art, the eternal.’
transient paroxysm russian aggiations in Paris
22
Transient Paroxysm
is a Russo creative hybrid of preservation inspired by haute couture. It aims to reunite private and public domain while igniting a re-acknowledgment, a passion for hand craft fashion and great Russian heritage. Inspiration was primarily taken from the recently successful haute couture design, Ulyana Sergeenko. She was chosen as the starting point for this project. Research was then undertaken into the modern history of Russia and from this the spacial programme was taken: a ballet theatre; an archive of fashion, theatre and the arts; a fashion atelier and an apartment for Sergeenko’s own personal use. Image, above: site analysis collage hi-lighting the urban nature of the chosen site. 23

The concept of this design is to use the vologda lace as means of creating a building. An initial response derived was to abstract the physical lace into a form through hardening the fabric with wax which was then place onto the isolated site through an axonometric. However, this was a very literal translation. An arbitrary form. A further investigation into the lace was needed. In spite of this, there were ethereal qualities of the lace that could be derived: lightness
•
delicacy
•
intricacy
27
28
Inital Spatial Massing of interceptions Measurements were used in accordance to a modulus created by overlaying the lace over the site. (image above) Hand drawn with pencil and photo montaged.
29
In order to connect the agitations with it’s urban surroundings, the initial map used to find a location was revisited. Lines were then drawn parallel to connections relevant to the spatial programme. The connection between the public and private domain was also revisited in a parti diagram and vertically (See image on page before).

3m high windows allow for deep penetration of sunlight into the spaces. Maxmising daylight to reduce artifical LED lighting use. LEDs will be on timers and have motion detectors.
Rain water collection on hard surface roofs.
North light via skylight
Passive ventilation in conjuction with passive heat gain. Using the South Westerly prevailing wind.
Preservation of terrace typology via roof gardens. Asscesible to public. Can also provide fresh air to spaces.
Heating provided by ground source heat pumps and distributed via underfloor heating. Submerged part of the design provides a more constant temperature. Electricity will be provided by a biomass boiler.
m a t e r i a l i t y ‘Paris Stone’ of Saint Maxmin, Oise: The main material of the building will be the stone seen all around Paris mined from the quarry of saint Maxmin. The quarry is less than 30 miles out and thus the embodied energy of transportation will be less. (Following Genius Loci of the Autonomous House).

Sentado Libro
was inspired by the two images above, found on tumblr. The trigger for the design project was a competition to design a bench which would be used during the reading week hosted by L1. The bench would serve as a point where people would be able to sit and read a book in the L1 shopping district of Liverpool. It would also provide an exchange point, where people would be able to leave unwanted books and, if so desired, they could take a book home in return. Unfortunately the design was not selected, however, praise was given towards the design itself.

Portraiture
was the chosen subject of my final A level year. The two pieces I created for the coursework were my favourite and were shown in a county showcase of the best work of the South West. The studies for the two paintings were very personal as the people had supported me through some hard times.
Photography
is something I’ve always been interested in and recently it’s become more accesible. You’ll find mainly photo taken by my mobile as this is the camera that appear on my person at the most opportune times. I also believe that the tool should not dictate the user’s skill.
Sketching
is very necessary for me to keep my drawing skills running. You’ll also find some drawings that I’ve completed in the past for art coursework. Hand drawning is something I’ve always enjoyed & very much try my best to continue in my spare time. Image, above: photo of Rome, a view from one of the gardens. Taken by a Sony Xperia mobile. Wall paper study Acrylic, tissue paper, wallpaper, pen One could categorise this as a collage but as my teach once said: “Every artist draws whether it be with paint or pencil so I have included it in the drawing section. The piece is a life drawing done on collage wallpaper done as a experimental piece of work.
