The section was a small watercolour study of a tearoom design alongside a basic section through the ground. This was an opportunity to explore the concept of the space growing from the form of a flower - an abstract animation looking at how the seed occupied space which in turn is then transformed into use for human occupancy. Even though the section was hand drawn, the animation was completed in After Effects. Many of the components were created with watercolours and inks then edited in photoshop. Characters seen in the clip were created using Adobe Illustrator as vector pieces as were the speech bubbles they used. However some items were created purely in After Effects using the mask/shape tool and animating the mask/shape. In the animation we can see speech represented visually and the transition of time that allows for the growth of a seed. SECTION Link | AfterEffects Tutorials referenceD

A basic sketchup mass model was made of the site, the Oxford Brookes University Travel Bureau & Accommodation office building, and the buildings that exist around it presently. Scenes were then created via sketch up and exported into parts of the animation sequence for editing in After Effects and Premiere. Base scene lengths were made through the sketchup export settings which were then cut and sped up accordingly in both Premier and After Effects.
Fades were added in both editing programmes - idenitfying the masses being placed on the site - using the opacity and time frame tools which are fairly basic techniques. The most complex technique used was the mask created at the beginning of the video which then moved and changed shape with the change in perspective of the model.

Text was then added at the end with Premiere alongside the music with basic opacity changes and graphic layers.
The bulk of the editing occured in After Effects: here images were added from the Research Design [P30036] project as painting was one of the main representation techniques used in the project. Some images were converted into vectors through Illustrator in order to allow for easier manipulation in After Effects and crisper lines. Most images and vectors were transformed in After Effects using the basic transformation, fill, stroke and pin corner effects. The converted and moving vectors can be seen when the hierarchies of the geisha that will occupy the building are introduced. Examples of the fades can be seen throughout the video but mostly during the apperance and moving of the initial design masses created from the hierarchies.
