INNER PEACE

RECONNECT

ESSENCE

BALANCE

CONCEPT VIVE is a new approach to palliative care that aims to provide a holistic experience to adult cancer patients & their caregivers through core wellness. The design will promote YOU by creating physical surroundings that are psychologically supportive and provide relief from emotional distress. This wellness experience aims to help you reconnect with yourself and find the balance between physical, mental & emotional health. It is a personal journey from unease to inner peace with the self at its core.

DESIGN GUIDANCE BIOPHILIA Calming & peaceful environment that removes the negative feelings associated with palliative care facilities Use of earth-toned color palette & textures that bring a sense of calmness. Use of organic forms to soften the edges

VARIETY OF AREAS Variety of comfortable seating areas to support & improve well-being Areas for respite that enhance the holistic treatments supporting & providing relief from emotional distress Adaptable & modifiable spaces to allow for an array of different uses UPLIFTING SPACES Holistic treatments that help reduce the severity of side effects related to cancer treatments Program that focuses on the mental, emotional & physical well-being of the patient, caregiver & staff Inspirational quotes throughout the facility VISUAL & ACOUSTIC PRIVACY Use of shades, curtains, & wood ceiling baffles to control, light & visual privacy Environment provides private & public spaces to accommodate extrovert & introvert personalities WAYFINDING Use of signage, lighting & racetrack circulation to support each holistic journey ENHANCE LOCATION Take advantage of the location, views & natural daylight to offer a balanced & welcoming space Circulation sequence that foster views of the ocean (hide & reveal)

PURPOSE

GOALS

The palliative care facility at Amara Cay will offer a distinctive experience for its users, offering a place of respite away from the stressful medical facilities where they receive treatment. Through the use of holistic treatments, such as sound therapy, patients will experience relief from the various side effects associated with chemotherapy.

Support the physical & mental well-being of patients receiving cancer treatment. Encourage caregivers to implement caring techniques which instills a feeling of being cared for in patients. Create a safe space for cancer patients and caregivers that contradicts the institutional healthcare environment they experience during treatment at the hospital. Remove the negative connotation given to palliative care which is usually offered at hospitals and hospice centers. Implement wellness through the architecture, design, program & overall experience.
