CAMP ARPA
Zero Emissions Project The Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia is involved in a research project to transform the city of Barcelona in a Zero Emission city. The barrio of Camp del’Arpa, located in the northeast part of the territory, was analysed using the Ecotect tool, and the results will be used in the future proposal for the region.
Barrio 5
[the area]
Camp del’Arpa - Barcelona
the model Step 1: Model the area in a 3D modeling program In this case, Rhinoceros was used.
the model Step 2: Exporting the 3D Model from Rhinoceros. Select All > File > Export as DXF
the model Step 3: Import the model in Ecotect. Scale 1 X 1 - Meters to Millimiters. Save As in the hard drive.
the model Step 4: Click the Visualize tab to see the 3D Model imported. Go to Modify > Merge Coincident Triangles to optimize the analysis.
the model Step 5: Go to Modify Model Settings to put the north in the right position.
the process Step 6: Click the world in the top toolbar to load the weather file for the specific location.
the process Step 7: Go to the Shadows tab on the right box and select Display Shadows [Daily]
the process Step 8: Check the Anual Sun Path case to create the following diagram.
the process Step 9: Click the Show Sahdow Range button to create a digram of the shadow range for the hole year.
the process Step 10: Choose a surface to analyse the solar incidence. Copy the plans in a new layer, or New Zone, to facilitate the visualization.
the process Step 11: Go to Display > Normals to check the direction of the normals vectors. In case they are in the wrong direction, go to Modify > Reverse Normals.
the process Step 12: Go to Modify > Surface Subdivision to create a grid in the surface that will be analysed. Check the cases as shown in the image above.
the process Step 13: Assign the material that is being used in the surface in the Material Assignment Tab at the right. Right click on the desired material to apply it to the selection.
the process Step 14: Go to Calculate > Solar Access Analysis and follow the wizard instructions.
the process Step 15: After the software finishes the calculations, the result should be a diagram as the above.
the process Step 16: The solar analysis of the hole area can ba achieved by creating a grid that contains the totality of the buildings. Go to the Grid tab on the right to manage the Grid.
the process Step 17: Go to Calculate > Solar Acces Analysis and calculate it for the grid that was created.
the process Step 18: To perform the Spatial Visibility Analysis you should define a grid in the analysed area through th Adjust Grid Extends command and then Manually Adjust Grid Extends. After that, select the surface that will be analysed (selected in red).
the process
Step 19: To start the wind analysis a Winair file had to be loaded in Preferences > General > 3rd Party Tools > Winair4 Application. After that you hac=ve to Fit Grid to Objects > Calculate CFD Cell Blockages > Export to Winair4 > Save > Insert Parameters for the Export > Load CFD Data.
the process Step 20: The Wind Analysis diagram.
the process Step 21: Changing the option shown in the right hand side toolbar, we can obtain the Cell Temperature Analysis diagram.
the process Step 22: Changing the option shown in the right hand side toolbar, we can obtain the Air Flow Rate Analysis diagram.
the process Step 23: Changing the option shown in the right hand side toolbar, we can obtain the Cell Pressure Analysis diagram.
