Music On The Trail
various venues
Music is an added dimension to what you might come across on the Trail and it is growing year by year. Performances can be found on the decking in Harbour Square at times shown on the stage but additionally you will find musicians and dancers in
pubs, gardens, churches and street corners to entertain you. Also beware of the flash mob routine who will materialise from nowhere to delight and surprise you! Performance times will be displayed on the Stage (Venue 1).
Extend your weekend Every Thursday during July and August, Kirkcudbright hosts Scottish Night – a real favourite with both local people and visitors. The excellent family friendly entertainment on offer includes music, dancing, local performers, bands and, of course, our very famous Kirkcudbright Tug o’ War, with our home team remaining unbeaten for 40 years! So kick off your Art & Crafts Trail weekend early and join the town in the Harbour Square from 7pm on Thursday 3rd August.
4 ~ Art & Crafts Trail 2017
Thursday night is our Harb Scottish night in m Square - 7p
And if you’re looking for something to do on Friday evening, watch history come alive on one of Maggie’s historical tours of Old Kirkcudbright. Come along and be entertained by the players, arrested by the guard, perplexed by scientists, or even propositioned by a lady of ill repute, and learn about the hard life the people of Kirkcudbright led 350 years ago. The tour runs from 7pm to 8.30pm, on Friday 4th August, leaving from the Selkirk Arms, High Street.
Lighthouses, lighthouses shining out along the trail The sound of sawing wood has started already and we are getting large orders for lighthouse cutouts. Children of all ages enjoy our trail themed activities and this year is no exception. Lighthouses fit in really well with our previous themes of beach huts, fish and boats. If you want to join in the fun you can make a lighthouse from scratch or pick up one of our blanks from the Summer Festivities charity shop, they are free. When you are out and about on the trail look out for displays of them on railings, gardens and in windows. Remember, Kirkcudbright is the Artists’ Town and all of you can be an artist! Dumfries and Galloway has a number of lighthouses. We are proud to be twinning with the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, well worth a visit if you fancy a day out, be inspired by its history and admire the wonderful views.

Rotary Young Artists' Competition Once again we are pleased to work alongside of Kirkcudbright Rotary Club and Kirkcudbright 2000 to encourage the artistic talents of the children in the Stewartry. In the four years that the competition has been running, many wonderful artworks have been entered and the standard is always high. Art specialists work with and encourage the school children to produce outstanding work. Kirkcudbright Academy S1 & S2 students and five local primary schools take part. The range of media and the interpretation of the subjects set are well worth viewing. Trophies, prizes and certificates are awarded in all three categories. These children are our future artists and Trailers will be able to see their work at the Cochran Hall, venue 32 and in the Tolbooth Art Centre Stairway, venue 35.

Trail Gardens
variou venuess
Gardens have long been an important part of our trail. We embrace all forms of art and hope that the gardens and their gardeners will inspire you. A number of them will be selling plants and cuttings. Unusual plants can be found at the Limes and Ellenbank and with a free trail bus for tired feet they are well worth visiting. Others such as Adele’s, Greengate and Maurice Halliday’s are hidden down closes and lanes and come as wonderful surprises. Take a look at the Daar lodge garden and see the sculptures there. Washing line art at Venue 54 always draws a crowd and this year finds a garden within this garden. Intrigued? then make sure you visit. Charity fundraisers open their gardens; the Kirkcudbright swimming pool will be benefitting from Mary Newton’s Limes Cafe in a spectacular setting, a perfect place for lunch. www.artandcraftstrail.com ~ 17

Vote Of Thanks
As our event has grown so has our willing band of helpers, it is true when we say that the Trail and our other projects could not run as smoothly as they do without you. Music co-ordination, running the stage, driving the bus, helping with projects and the giving of encouragement are very much valued by the committee. Our thanks also to our visitors both new and returning, your welcome comments and positive feedback on Facebook are very much valued, it makes all that we do worthwhile. Best wishes!
