Creative Whithorn
Welcome to the Arts and Crafts Trail – 16th 17th July 2016 On the 16th and 17th July artists’ studios and other venues in Whithorn will be hosting the 4th Creative Whithorn Arts and Crafts Trail. For 2016 we are going back to our roots to showcase the home grown, creative talent of artists and makers from across Wigtownshire. The wide range of exhibitions will include woodcraft, textiles, ceramics, painting, printmaking, glasswork, bookbinding, jewellery and photography. The Trail also gives visitors time to meet the artists, who will be on hand to discuss their work and demonstrate some of their techniques. At The Smiddy, George Pattison will be demonstrating metal working skills while Ben Glanville shows his woodcraft techniques. Respected potter Peter Wareing will be working on ceramics at his studio and textile artist Fran Raw will be challenging visitors to try out the giant knitting needles at her studio. Alternatively, you might like to try out inking and printing with artist and printmaker Liz Perry.
Alongside the Trail, the prestigious Five More Exhibition is back for its 2nd year in the Ninian Gallery at the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre. This exhibition will run throughout July and showcase the work of 5 invited artists with national and international reputations. The Royal Burgh of Whithorn is in the south of The Machars of Galloway, a peninsula of rolling countryside fringed by beaches and forests and including sites of archaeological interest dating back to the Iron Age. With wildlife, fishing, quiet roads, fabulous sunsets, woodland and beach walks, oodles of books in Wigtown (Scotland’s National Booktown) and the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park close by, the Machars always has a warm welcome waiting for you. See you there! Visit www.creativewhithorn.co.uk for further information and links to other attractions in the town.
