Daventry Arts Festival is back. Taking place in a variety of venues across the Town Centre, from Friday 6 to Saturday 28 July, the festival promises to provide an action-packed 3 weeks of entertainment for everyone! Building on the success of 2011, we have over 30 different events taking place, including street entertainment, music, comedy, dance, a book signing, film, theatre, a parade, walks, talks, traditional games, exhibitions, photography, bell ringing, and so much more. Highlights include a magical outdoor theatre performance of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, outside cinema, a chance to meet Guinness world record breaker ‘Smokey’ the cat and listen to the tale of ‘Smokey the Very Loud Purring Cat’, watch ‘Twist’, a oneman show that brings to life a host of well-loved Dickens’ characters or just sit back, relax and enjoy an evening of popular music performed by Daventry Brass in the delightful surroundings of Holy Cross Church. And there’s more! ‘A Roll in the Hay’, featuring one of the most famous voices in the land, Radio 4’s ‘The Archers’ actress Sunny Ormonde, better known to Ambridge listeners as Lilian Bellamy. Not to be outdone some

home-grown talent provided by the Daventry Choral Society offering an enjoyable evening of music and for those who like their music al fresco we have Daventry’s Music in the Park - what a summer! The festival events have been organised by a variety of individuals, local businesses, schools, groups, organisations, public bodies and volunteers who have put in a huge amount of effort to put the festival together – a very special thank you to all these along with the sponsors, Daventry & District Housing. I believe there is a lot happening in Daventry which we should be very proud of and the festival provides a great platform to shout about it! We hope you enjoy the festival and take the opportunity to support your local town and community – our town needs YOU! The festival is a Daventry Business Partnership project that aims to raise the profile of arts in the town, along with the number of visitors, as part of the Daventry BID. We are grateful to our festival sponsors and in particular to David and Angela Adams who are real champions of our town. Sally Halson, Manager, Daventry Business Partnership

Interesting Facts! The Bells! Change ringing is the art of ringing a set of tuned bells in a series of mathematical patterns called “changes”. What is the Plain Bob Royal composition?! To know when to make calls and which ones to make, a conductor follows a plan called a composition which he or someone else devised. Today computers make checking a composition’s truth easy; but the process once involved a mix of mathematics and laborious row-by-row checking. The Plain Bob Royal is one such composition!

‘Much Ado about Nothing’

The war is over... but not between Benedick and Beatrice! It’s “chocks-away” as Shakespeare’s most entertaining and charming couple take to the stage to engage in their “merry war” and, with both proclaiming that they’ll never fall in love, a battle of wits ensues. But, as the airmen return from war and the Home Guard get ready to stand down, be prepared for a bumpy ride – infidelity, deception and mistaken identity challenge the lovers making ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ a spectacle of comic and dramatic suspense. Will love take to the skies or take a nosedive and bomb? Amid a flurry of 1940s Air Force uniforms, a whirlwind of war time song and dance, Heartbreak’s sexy, sunny comedy is full of sparkling merriment and positively soars along as one set of lovers battle against dirty tricks, and another set simply battle each other! Dynamic, poignant and ultimately hilarious, this production guarantees audiences will be filling the skies with the roar of laughter.
