What is
?
AIESEC Australia is currently the world’s largest youth-run organization, integrated into a global youth network, with the aim to impact the world through leadership development experiences. We are situated in over 124 countries and territories, led by over 86,000 of the most motivational leaders of this generation. Focusing on world issues, leadership and management, our international platform enables young people to explore and develop their leadership potential for them to have a positive impact on society and develop social awareness. AIESEC UNSW stands as a global, non-political, independent, not-for-profit organization run by fellow students. Founded in 1964, AIESEC UNSW has been facilitating volunteering experiences for a spectrum of international projects in countries that require the assistance, focusing on social issues such as pollution, poverty, population overload and unemployment. International internships are also offered to create a global learning environment, whereby opportunities to drive innovative thinking is sparked and fueled by the power beheld by our leaders.

We do this by providing practical leadership for those who are willing to learn and not afraid to fail. Overview of What is this program? The Global Citizen Program provides students with the opportunity to volunteer overseas from 6 to 12 weeks for a challenging learning and cross-cultural experience. International volunteering opportunities are the most intense learning experiences that connect the global network with AIESEC UNSW. This program unites cross-cultural positive impact with working abroad for social and community development projects. In this program members are offered the opportunity to develop personal skills and competences through multiculturalism and social responsibility. AIESEC provides a variety of projects, which will be thoroughly explained further in the booklet.
Key features of Global Citizen: Duration: 6-12 weeks Price:
$700 administration fee, Â flight expenses, travel insurance, and any vaccinations. Personal expenses to be spent overseas. Food and accommodation may be provided depending on individual projects

Projects Our projects are subdivided into 5 segments. Some raises awareness about a particular social issue through educational workshops, conferences, road shows or NGO work. The issues targeted by AIESEC include environmental sustainability, HIV/AID’s awareness and community development. Further, you may be involved in sharing and teaching others about your culture through workshops and events in schools, orphanages, conferences and different forms of media. There may be an opportunity for you to teach a particular subject or to empower the community through teaching them a particular skills. Of course, Your exact role and work will be dependent on the project you choose.

1. iGreen @ Bandung, Indonesia: focused on increasing awareness about local environmental issues facing Indonesia and the specific strategies that could be implemented to address them 2. Green Power Now @ Shanghai, China: Provide a wide stage for students to learn more about environmental basic information in order to let them form the concept of protecting environment and apply what they learn into practice. 3. Amitabha Center @ Johor, Malaysia: generate awareness on the issue of environment, sustainability and preservation of the environment

“Mould the minds of future leaders.” (Literacy, cultural understanding, teaching/learning how to teach, educating communities on different topics, Health & Lifestyle)
1. Make A Step @ Poznan, Poland: aim is to reach students from secondary schools in small cities and towns in the area of two voivodeships (provinces) of Poland: Wielkopolskie and Lubuskie and give them the possibility to participate in workshops conducted by volunteers from all over the world. 2. Enjoy My Origin @ Poznan, Poland: aim of the project is to show the children that it is worthy and beneficial to learn English as well as introduce them to the culture and habits of interns' country of origin 3. Uni Speak @ Prague, Czech Republic: focused on international cultural education in university environment. 4. Enter your future @ Rzeszow, Poland: conduct workshops and prepare presentations about intern’s history, culture, economy, social issues, geography and about leadership and entrepreneurship. 5. LEGACY @ Manila, Philippines: project involved teaching English and Maths to underprivileged children aged 5-15 in an orphanage and in Student Centre.

FAQ Q1 What does the $700 admin fee go towards? 1. Access to our database • Personal profile • 6 months access to database to find suitable projects 2. Q2 What quality control system and safety management are provided for exchange participants? 1. Education and expectation setting are provided through AIESEC UNSW to ensure all exchange participants are made aware of the channels available for help when any issues arise. 2. All exchange participants are allocated an Exchange Participant Management (EPM) who acts as their consultant and first person of contact before, during and after their exchange. 3. International SOS provides exchange participant support and assistance include: health and safety advice, medical and security, lost passports and extending visas, advice to personal, travel or legal questions. 4. Cost on immediate leaving due to major crisis will be covered by their travel insurance if not then AIESEC may cover some of the costs depending on the situation.
5. Exchange Quality Sub-Committee (XQSC) is held every half year at AIESEC Australia’s national conferences to ensure that each local entity is meeting the exchange requirements. 6. Exchange Program Polices (XPP) is a document that governs AIESEC’s exchange operations internationally. Its purpose is to have a standardized set of policies to protect the rights of exchange participants and that outlines the responsibilities of various parties. 7. Net promoter score (NPS) is used to measure the quality of its program. 8. The International Control Board (ICB) is a process of arbitration and similar to court proceedings. It is to ensure that exchange participants are given the right to receive compensation if they believe that they were severely mistreated by an AIESEC entity during their exchange. 13
Q3 What extra expenses that I will need to cover for? Expenses vary from countries to countries.
Logistic expenses include our admin fee, flight tickets, visa, travel insurance and vaccinations; it is estimated to be around $1900.
Living Expenses include accommodation, food, transport, telecommunication pack; it is estimated to be around $240.
Q4 What happens if I don’t get matched to a project? You have 6 months to get matched to a project before you contract expires. If you are unable to get matched to a project for various reasons within this time, you can apply for an extension fee being paid. Almost all exchange participants who actively look for projects get matched within one to two months after signing the contract so your proactivity will ensure that you find a suitable project.
Q5 Are there any selection criteria for the application selection process? 1. Be available to attend a workshop (after passing our interview) and willing to fill in surveys while on exchange 2. Be motivated to actively look and apply for projects (with the assistance of your exchange buddy) 3. Willing to be challenged and demonstrate a desire to overcome struggles 4. Respect other cultures and people 5. Be open-minded about trying new things 6. Thirst to explore the world
