drinks

Be sure to purchase your drink tickets! Bars at all Heartland events will only accept drink tickets, and will not be accepting cash or credit. You may purchase drink tickets at any time during the show at the registration desk.

Shipping

Can’t carry everything home? That’s the joy of the Heartland Fall Forum. There will be a DIY shipping station on the show floor at table #123. Scales, boxes, and tape will be available to all attendees. We asked each bookseller attendee to prepare in advance by bringing your store’s FedEx or UPS account number and shipping labels. If you weren’t able to do this, please use a personal computer or the hotel business center to create an account. There will be no formal shipping service on site, so please come prepared. 3

Our silent auction is conducted for the benefit of the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit that aids brick and mortar booksellers across the country in need of emergency financial assistance. This year, with flooding, hurricanes, and devastating fires, the need is particularly great. Bidding starts on Friday, October 5 at 9:30 am and ends at 11:00 am. The items up for auction have been generously donated by our exhibitors. A complete list of items is available at the silent auction booth. To participate, visit exhibitors to see their auction items. Look for the color flags on the items. Place your bids at the silent auction booth where the current high bid will be on display. Winners will be announced at 11:30 am on Friday and must be present to claim their items within 30 minutes, or the item(s) will be awarded to the next highest bidder.

The workshop will include a segment focusing on strategies for achieving higher profits and improving cash flow. The program will conclude with an interactive group discussion, working through an example of how booksellers can use their store’s financial information to make sound business decisions. AWARD WINNERS VOICE OF THE HEARTLAND

Congratulations to Kate McCune, who has won the Voice of the Heartland Award, given by the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association and the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association to "outstanding individuals who uphold the value of independent bookselling and who have made a significant contribution to bookselling in the Midwest." There are few sales reps that more fully embody this, and have garnered more respect, in this industry than Kate McCune. Her advocacy on behalf of the books published by HarperCollins is legendary, best on display in her rep pick presentations and her Edelweiss markups. After working as a bookseller for many years, Kate McCune began repping for HarperCollins in 2002, and has served on the board of BINC since 2014. Additionally, McCune, who lives in Ann Arbor, has been a cheerleader for Above the Treeline and Edelweiss since the early days and says it’s always “been fun to jump on my bike and go to their offices when they need a guinea pig.”
