These celebrations are a chance to acknowledge women’s contributions to history, culture, the business and professional world and our communities. Women are observed annually in the months of March , April and May in the United States, From Harriet Tubman to Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks,to Stacey Abrams, black women have been at the forefront of history-making moments in the United States. Let's celebrate them and All their Contributions, Let's celebrate them and All their "Good Trouble". The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes a yearly theme for Women's History Month and 2021's is all about capturing the spirit of the challenging times we're living through. We are celebrating and honoring Black Women in this Issue just for you. It is always the time to focus and reflect on Black Women and all that we are doingt o make a difference. This is the issue that we should use to educate, remember, reflect and empower ourselves. Learn to Cheer and Clap for Black Women , Just Because. Recognize that Black Women are making history daily. Despite the victories in civil rights and women' rights that we had accomplished, there was still anger and frustration over the continuing oppression which caused regular uprisings. From this, the Black Art Movement was born. The movement reached its peak in the early 70s producing some of the most powerful music, art, films and poetry. The Movement is on the rise again with many of our artists and athletes using their platforms to address the issues in our communitities today. 2021 - Womn's Impact & Contributions in Jazz Jazz Appreciation Month 2021! This year, Smithsonian Jazz presented “2021: Women’s Impact and Contributions in Jazz” featuring Nina Simone activist, storyteller, gifted musician, vocalist and one of my musical influences. Her empowering song, “Young, Gifted and Black” was introduced to me at an early age. Hear the story of how her friend (writer and playwright), Lorraine Hansberry inspired the writing of the song. Enjoy! Featured on this year’s official 2021 poster is pianist, singer, songwriter, storyteller and civil rights activist Nina Simone. Born February 21, 1933, in Tryon, North Carolina, Simone became enamored with music at the early age of three when she learned to play the piano by ear. She went on to study classical repertoire and aspired to continue her education as a concert pianist at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, but that future did not come to pass. An audition in 1954 at the Midtown Bar & Grill in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was noted as a defining moment in her career that introduced her talents as a pianist and singer to an unsuspecting and enthusiastic audience. Some of her many recordings include her debut album, Little Girl Blue, on Bethlehem Records; the 1962 live recording Nina at the Village Gate; and 1964’s Nina in Concert, which famously addressed racial inequality. Simone received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2000 and was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Her 1964 performance of “Mississippi Goddam” was selected as culturally and historically significant by the Library of Congress in 2018 and included for preservation on the National Recording Registry. To learn more about Nina Simone, visit ninasimone.com. The artist for the 2021 JAM poster is Naa Anyele Sowah-De Jesus, a sophomore visual arts student at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Washington, D.C

Chef Velvets’ deep roots to the south and fasincation with fresh vegetables was the inspiration behind this magic blend. As a child, Chef Vel loved her great granny’s homemade lemonade. She spent every summer on her grandparents farm and fell in love with greens. As an adult, she blended her two first loves to create a kool kale & gentle ginger lemonade that's so refreshing it awakens your taste buds with every sip.

J. Moss Wines is a small family wine business established in 2000 by James Moss and Janet Moss. The success of the first vintage and their dream to produce a full bodied Cabernet, inspired the Moss’ to continue their winemaking with grapes from some of the world famous regions in Napa Valley. James had the opportunity to develop his winemaking skills with the B L A C K W O M A N O W N E D assistance of Gustavo Brambila, former winemaker for Chateau Montelena, Grgich Hills and now part WINE VINEYARD owner/winemaker of Gustavo Thrace. Every year since 1998, the Moss’ have been producing a small production of hand-crafted wines which were shared with family and friends.

In order to ensure that J. Moss wines will always be of the highest quality, they produce limited quantities from single appellation vineyards of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Production is steadily increasing each year.

Self-care & Pampering

SHIFT FROM SETTLING

e c n a c i f i to Sign 3 SELF CARE TIPS TO SHIFT FROM SETTLING TO SIGNIFICANCE I am called to help people who are ready to share your brilliance and unique greatness with the world. You want Divine Direction. You want to live in the flow of passion and purpose. You want to follow your heart. Achieve your greatness, stand fully in your power and give yourself permission to be who you really are. You have a burning desire for more. And you believe you can have it all, but somewhere along the way you get stuck and unfulfilled. However, now you know you need help to shift from settling to significance so you can live the life you’ve always dreamed of but didnt know how. Self care is one of the places many women get stuck. Without self care, you are settling in life and won't be able to achieve the significance you deserve. Some of the issues that I typically see with women in general is they are out there doing massive things in the world, running major schedules, trying to balance work, family, children, relationships and creating time for themselves. They are trying to figure out how do I run a major schedule, a major life and major business. Everything about my world feels major. But not only does it feel major, it is major. So perfectionism begins to run their life and then perfectionism brings with it, its partners worry and anxiety.

So they start to worry and become obsessive which actually begins to decrease their focus and their own personal clarity to create consistency and continuity for their lives. Once they experience that breakdown, now they become anxious. They can’t sleep, they have insomnia. And they start to convince themselves; I can move forward and function on less sleep because I can do more. So now lack starts to be the thing that makes sense to them. Lack of sleep, lack of time, lack of relationships, lack of energy. Lack of love. Lack of confidence. Lack of happiness. And they are always convincing themselves, its ok. Its ok I don’t have the love that I desire. Its ok I don’t have the sleep that I need. Its ok I don’t have the vacation I want. I can’t have everything I want anyway. And everything that they want now becomes a futuristic something. It becomes elusive. And they become fearful that their life will always look this way. This is where they live. This is where they get stuck. This is the breakdown, they must break open to breakthrough. So my responsibility is to engage with you from a place of my intuition so I can tap into your intuition. Because its not about what guidance and navigation you don’t have, its about what you have not tuned into.

All of us have the power to create positive action and right direction in our lives. But its about will we create a habit of inner peace, passion, happiness, confidence and self care. And the only way that habit can happen is if we begin to release and let go of the idea of life as we have known it. To help you to do that I will share with you 3 of the 5 important lessons I’ve learned about self care. I learned many of these powerful lessons during my 6 month healing sabbatical after I got fired from my outpatient mental health job in social work and transitioned into having a full time holistic healing practice. I recently took a week long birthday vacation to Cancun and I was reminded of the reasons self care is non negotiable! In order for me to function at my full capacity and serve my clients and organizations to the highest degree, I have to avoid burnout, be fully present and practice soulful selfcare. Practicing self-care not only helps us feel better. It also helps us function at our best. It replenishes our reserves, boosts our energy and provides clarity. We’re able to do everything from making smarter decisions to helping others. In short, self-care supports our health and wellbeing on every level.

3 POWERFUL SELF CARE LESSONS: When you need self care the most, you practice it the least. The more successful you become and the busier you become; the less you practice self care. The more stressed out and overwhelmed, you are; the less you practice self care. Your level of self care must match your level of stress. Superficial self-care is dangerous. For example if your stress level is a 10, your self care should be at a level 10. A mani pedi wont work for level 10 stress, that may be more like therapy, life coaching or a reiki healing session. Self Care isn’t Selfish, Its Self Love. What greater gift can you give to those you love than your own wholeness? For more self care tips and to learn more about your own self care needs, you can download my free self care audit now at bit.ly/soulfulselfcareaudit
