World Journal was founded in 1976. It has demonstrated itself as the most influential Chineselanguage newspaper in North America and is one of the few US newspapers distributed nationwide. World Journal’s distribution extends throughout North America in the cities with independent publishing operations including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston. Its sole mission is to help readers understand the values and culture of the United States while bridging the cultural gap with the Chinese Americans, mainstream, or any other ethnic groups. While it started as a print media, it has grown and transformed into a multi-platform news source.

WORLD JOURNAL LOS ANGELES World Journal Los Angeles’ (WJLA) foremost mission is to help its readers understand all of the different values and cultures of Southern California. WJLA focuses on translating U.S. political, economic, financial and business news. It is available in print and has an online version that registers an average volume of 1,000,000 page views each month. WJLA organizes many different fairs each year with themes varying from education and tourism to home and living improvement. It sees the opportunity and its role in the community to enhance the mutual understanding of peoples from different cultures in their new country.

Lunar New Year Festival

Education Fairs & Seminars

The annual Lunar New Year Festival is a large-scale event that attracts more than 250,000 visitors every year to celebrate. 285 vendors and exhibitors participated in the 2016 Lunar New Year Festival in Monterey Park. The types of vendors and exhibitors ranged from food to technology products. The event also consisted of live performances and prize drawings that allowed for interactions with the visitors.

Twice a year, in spring and autumn, World Journal holds its college education workshop for students and parents who desire a quality college education. There are representatives from different colleges that are interested in recruiting students. There are practice PSAT, SAT and ACT tests for students to get a feel for the exams.

Home & Garden Expo Since 2009, World Journal has collaborated with city officers and event sponsors in promoting comfortable home living style, energy conservation, and environmental protection. In the 2016 Home and Garden Expo, more than 70 vendors were present. The event has become one of the most popular events within the Chinese communities.

Travel & Leisure Show Travel exhibition to connect residents with different travel businesses. In the 2016 Travel & Leisure Show, over 50 vendors were present including several travel agencies and travel gear businesses. Aside from exhibitions, the show also hosted several travel discussion forums that prompted eager attendees. as that allowed for interactions with the visitors.

Special Events Targeting the new generation

Kobe Bryant Basketball Camp Since 2013, World Journal holds the Kobe Bryant Basketball Camp to offer a chance for students with a passion for basketball. Participants can experience aerospace museum, art, and university tours as well as outdoor camping during the camp.

17th International Beer FestivalLos Angeles Over 25 types of beer are available for free tasting during the event. There are also several live performances and beer-related activities during the festival, and participants have chances to win prizes.

LA Voice Singing Contest Since 2013, World Journal LA has offered a place for young talents to perform and a channel to amplify their voice. LA Voice has successfully attracted groups of young talents of different backgrounds in the past four years.

Continuing Our Legacy- “A Place of Inclusion� Monument Ceremony The event gives Asian American families a chance to connect themselves with their ancestors. The event brings awareness to the Chinese Exclusion Act by constructing a monument titled "A Place of Inclusion."


Partnership with the Music Center Spreading Taiwan’s unique dancing language

The Music Center x Cloud Gate x World Journal Exclusive Chinese Media Partnership (January, 2016) World Journal serves as the Music Center’s media partner in the “Rice” dance series. “Rice” is one of the most famous contemporary dance pieces directed by Lin Hwai-min. It was made to pay respect to Chinese land and people.

World Journal provided advertising and promotional support to The Music Center on the Cloud Gate event through the newspaper, website, App and social media platforms (Wechat, Weibo, and Facebook). In addition, World Journal Los Angeles also served as the exclusive ticket distribution channel within Chinese communities.

Special Online Events Targeting new media users The 2015 Photo Contest sponsored by Verizon was an online event hosted purely on the WJ Mobile app. Participants were encouraged to take photos of the 2015 Lunar New Year Festival and upload photos to the event channel on WJ Mobile. Hundreds of photos were uploaded to the app between 2/7 and 2/16.

The China Airline’s Super 777 Sweepstakes invited participants to enter China Airline’s sweepstakes by visiting China Airline’s customized page on the World Journal website and answering a brief quiz. Over 10,000 entries were submitted between November 8 and December 12, 2014.
