[ General installation instructions ] •

General rules

The laying temperature should be greater than 0°C. Keep the material in stock at temperatures close to the installation temperature for at least 48 hours prior to installation. Store the planks on a flat surface avoiding direct exposure to sunlight. Please carefully check the material before you install it as complaints will not be accepted after the installation has been performed. Do not cover the product with sheets made with non-breathable material (nylon, polyethylene and similar materials). Open the boxes and immediately remove the polyethylene packaging on the profiles. The accumulation of electrostatic charges is a natural phenomenon commonly found in plastic materials, which under exceptional environmental conditions may also occur in WoodnTM’s products.

Mounting center-to-center distances

The mounting center-to-center distance must be adequately sized to meet the loads provided in the current regulations. In the following pages, for each Versatilis profile, the maximum center-to-center application distances are shown, according to the visible side, the horizontal or vertical installation of the profiles and the type of metal reinforcement used. The values in the tables have been calculated considering a wind load of 150 kg/m². The profiles must be mounted using mechanical systems that join the substructure with the metal reinforcement. TO ALLOW NORMAL EXPANSION, MOUNTING SHOULD NOT BE DONE DIRECTLY ON THE WPC PROFILE.

Fixed point and floating point

In applying the profiles it is important to consider, when mounting them to the substructure, making a FIXED POINT, which blocks the profile, in a precise position, during expansion due to thermal variations. At all the other fixing points, FLOATING POINTS must be created to let the profile expand freely. The floating points can be made by drilling appropriately sized holes or slots depending on the distance between the fixed point and the floating points according to the calculation below:

floating point hole diameter = floating point slot length = 2 x L x 0,003+ Ø where L = center-to-center distance between the fixed point and the floating point and Ø = diameter of the fixing screw For example: L = 2000 mm, Ø = 4 mm floating point hole diameter = floating point slot length = 2 x 2000 x 0.003 + 4 = 16 mm

www.woodn.com 7

WoodnTM Versatilis

For the expansion spaces to remain over time, we recommend adhering strictly to the positioning diagram of the fixed point.

Laying pattern diagrams [ Laying pattern PARALLEL ]

WARNING: if the application requires corners with planks cut at 45°, the fixed point must be at the corner. WARNING: when mounting planks vertically, it is recommended to make the fixed point at the top end. WARNING CONCERNING INSTALLATION: due to the peculiarities of the materials furnished, Woodn Industries expressly disclaims any liability with respect to its products when laying and installation are not carried out by specialized personnel, following the specific instructions, including those related to adhesives and accessories contained in the technical sheets that come with the products. WARNING: the structures shown in the drawings on the following pages represent only rough construction indications and all their components must be adequately sized in accordance with the regulations in force; sizing is the responsibility of the customer. For any special needs, please contact our technical department: ufficiotecnico@woodn.com

Internal reinforcement •

ALL PROFILES USED OUTDOORS MUST BE REINFORCED. The metal reinforcement profile must be shorter than the WPC profileby 40 mm. When centered in the WPC profile, it must fall within 20 mm of each end. In the specific case of JF7040 profiles, in which the WPC WAJF7040C_WM closing cap is installed, the reinforcement profile must be 90 mm shorter, falling 45 mm inside of the ends of the WPC profile.

Expansion space between adjacent profiles •

At the end of the profile, leave a joint according to the relative size in the table below:

NOTE: If screw plugs of different sizes are needed, they will be evaluated according to needs.

Installation of the end caps •

Woodn interlocking caps (WAJF7040C_WM and similar) Remove any residual material from the profile due to cutting and with a dry cloth remove any remaining dust. Remove the protective film from the adhesive strips placed under the cap. Insert the cap into the profile, being careful to center it. Apply light pressure with your hand to make the adhesive strips adhere well. Mechanically fasten the caps on both sides of the profile using pins. Woodn caps with screws (WAJF7040C_WH and similar) and aluminium caps with screws (WAJF7040C_H2 and similar) Remove any residual material from the profile due to cutting and with a dry cloth remove any remaining dust. Remove the protective film from the adhesive placed under the cap. Paste the cap on the end of the profile, being careful to center it. Apply light pressure with your hand to make the adhesive strips adhere well to that part of the profile. Install the screws, supplied, in the pre-drilled holes on the cap by means of hand tools. Make 1.8 mm pre-holes in correspondence with the holes on the cap and install DIN7981 2.2x6.5 mm screws using hand tools. Follow the instructions reported to install screw plugs with a structure similar to the ones reported here above. [ Laying method 1 ] Laying on stable ground The laying method on aluminum joists provides for the fixing of these to the ground; this system is suitable for installation on stable and drillable floors such as: concrete subfloors, existing floors of stone, industrial type flooring. It is advisable to use aluminium slats code MP4020_2AL only if the base is sufficiently smooth and flat and frequent shimming does not need to be performed. If, instead, the conditions of the base are different from that indicated, it is necessary to use slats code WADT4030. In the presence of concrete screeds laid to protect the waterproofing sheaths, make sure of the actual thickness available in order to choose the size of the anchor to be used for fixing the joists, so as not to puncture the underlying sheaths. For installation in situations and on ground surfaces other than as described in these instructions, contact the Woodn Industries technical department at the following email address: ufficiotecnico@woodn.com

Laying and fixing of aluminum joists

Arrange the joists on the ground in a position perpendicular to the plank laying direction, with a maximum center-tocenter distance Imax (p. 32) from each other. The positioning of these is closely linked to the laying surface of the planks. It is recommended to lay out the planks on the ground to locate the exact positions of the joists, the center-to-center distance of the same can vary depending on the laying surface and the cutting of the floor planks.

The joists must be fixed rigidly to the crosspieces.

In the case of superimposed frame, drill 5 mm diameter passing holes on the joist and widen them to 12 mm at the upper surface. Then, fix it with the self-drilling screw.

www.woodn.com 39

WoodnTM Aeternus

In the case instead of a coplanar frame, use the aluminum joints supplied, code WADT13835_U3525. Before affixing these, it is necessary to trace precisely the position of the individual joints, so as to ensure the alignment necessary for mounting.

6

7

Place the joint on the side of the crosspiece, using the positioning mould code WADT13835_10046, provided. Then tighten the screws to the joist.

Remove the positioning mould and reuse it for other joints.

NOTE: to use this system, you must cut the crosspieces perfectly perpendicular to their length.

8

9

Complete the frame by inserting the joints inside the crosspieces. Make sure that the crosspieces are in good contact with the joists.

Finally block the crosspieces with self-drilling screws as in the figure. To quicken this operation, it is useful to make a pilot hole before inserting the screws.

[ Assembly instructions ] •

General rules

The laying temperature should be greater than 0°C. Keep the material in stock at temperatures close to the installation temperature for at least 48 hours prior to installation. Store the planks on a flat surface avoiding direct exposure to sunlight. Please carefully check the material before you install it and notify us immediately of any deformities. A complaint will not be accepted after the installation has been performed.

Expansion space between adjacent profiles

In outdoor applications, at the end of the profile, leave a joint according to the relative size in the table below:

Laying temperature

Wxpansion space

< 20°C

2,1 mm/ml

> 20°C

1,6 mm/ml

For example, for laying conditions with a temperature around 30°C and plank length of 2.5 m, one should leave joints (interspaces) of a width of 2.5 ml x 1.6 mm/ml = 4 mm.

Fixed points

In order to ensure the expansion space will remain over time, in outdoor applications a fixed point should be made on each plank. It is also recommended to adhere strictly to the positioning pattern of the fixed point. [ Laying pattern diagram ]

PARALLEL LAYING

ALTERNATING LAYING

X = fixed point for expansion •

Alignments

We recommend plumbing and aligning the substructures before starting to assemble the profiles.

WoodnTM Ornans

[ Installation and maintenance instructions WoodnTM Ornans ] The WoodnTM Ornans cladding, due to its qualities of water resistance, lightness and reduced thickness is ideal for covering walls, floors and false-ceilings. Stack the planks removed from the cartons in the area to be clad for not less than 48 hours in order to reduce thermal differences between the material and the substrate. The ambient temperature and that of the surfaces to be clad must be between 15 and 30°C. An inspection of the site is always advisable, in order to check the state of the laying surfaces and to determine the preliminary steps necessary to ensure a good result. •

Preparation of the base

Verify the stability of the support on which the installation is to be done: a surface subject to expansion and movements of any kind can compromise the success of the installation. For an easy, fast and secure installation of WoodnTM Ornans, a properly levelled substrate is necessary. Any irregularities of the floor will affect the surface of the cladding. Before applying the adhesive to the substrate, it is essential to verify the following aspects: - cleanliness (in particular: the absence of oily or greasy substances in general, which may jeopardize the adhesion of the adhesive to the substrate; absence of debris, which may seriously compromise the aesthetic result of the laying); - absence of surface moisture and of incline.

Installation may be done correctly using different types of adhesive from among those available on the market. Depending on the substrate on which you perform the application, we recommend the use of the following products.

LEGENDA: * * * Absorbent floors (indoor) * * * Non-absorbent floors * * * Outdoor applications Note: for special applications please contact our Woodn Industries technical department

The amount of adhesive to be prepared depends on the experience and skill of the installer, on the “open time” of the adhesive (catalysis rate) and on the ambient temperature (heat accelerates the catalysis while a low temperature can slow down or negatively alter the process): we recommend carefully reading the instructions for use. To apply the adhesive properly, use a trowel with triangular teeth (2 mm is ideal). Then prepare a uniform base of adhesive on an appropriate portion of the surface to be clad (size varies depending on the dexterity of the installer). It may happen that for every 20 to 30 m² of laying, the teeth of the trowel become worn to the point of not offering an ideal application. In this case, we recommend replacing the trowel promptly.

www.woodn.com 92

WoodnTM Ornans

Wall application

For the laying, a smooth wall is necessary, and free from surface irregularities as described above. For a wall application, it is advisable to proceed from the bottom upwards. It is important to check progressively the correct positioning of the planks so you can correct any irregularities before the adhesive catalyses. Apply a uniform layer of adhesive on the portion of surface to be clad, then apply the planks; repeat the operation until completion of the cladding. To prevent downwards slippage of the planks, it can be useful to fix them using pins or small nails that can later be removed once the adhesive catalyses. For outdoor applications, the surface must be made with hydraulic binder, have high mechanical strength and be compact and mature at the time of installation. We furthermore advise using planks less than or equal to 50 cm in length.

Floor application

The WoodnTM Ornans planks, can also be applied to the floor: for example, in bathrooms or rooms of private homes, shop windows and in general areas with low transit of persons (equivalent to class 21 according to EN 685:2007). The floor installation must be carried out without stepping on freshly-laid planks, therefore it must be done by moving backwards across the room toward the exit. Do not walk on the floor for at least 24 hours after completing the installation. Once the installation is done, in order to limit surface abrasions and scratches to the planks, we recommend creating a ‘buffer zone’, using loose-laid mats according to standard EN14041. Please verify that the mechanical properties of the product (see p. 85) are compatible with the intended use of the floored premises.

Tips for laying

The plank should be laid with a movement perpendicular to the plane of application, being careful not to slide it parallel to the substrate. It is important, every 3 to 4 m² laid, to put pressure on the widest surface possible to make the planks adhere evenly to the substrate, using square trowels with a rubber base. For this operation, we do not recommend using your fingers or the palm of your hand. Any excess adhesive should be eliminated as you go, to keep the adhesive from adhering to the visible surfaces. The adhesive may harden long after the laying itself (for instance, when the laying is done in low temperature environments). In these cases we recommend passing the square trowel a second time, if necessary. It is advisable, until the hardening is completed, to use adhesive tape from a body shop (made of paper and with low adhesiveness) to hold the planks together, in order to avoid cracks forming between the planks.

Routine maintenance

•

The material is water resistant and can be washed with traditional liquids such as water, neutral soap, alcohol, etc. Carefully avoid the use of solvents (especially acetone) that could damage the surface of the planks. For example, the flooring can be washed with neutral soap and/or a capful of ammonia per each 5 L bucket of water. To remove dust, we recommended avoiding the use of abrasive tools, such as sorghum brooms. We recommend checking the level of wear of the brushes in your vacuum cleaner, in order to avoid scratches.

As part of a normal technological evolution, there may be changes in colour/appearance of the product; we recommend that, when ordering, you request samples of recent manufacture. We will not accept claims involving differences in colour or appearance outside commercial tolerances, where choices have been made based on old samples. We reserve the right to terminate, update, make technical changes to improve the quality and appearance of the material, without prior notice.

Adhesive

Installation can be done correctly by using different types of adhesive from among those available on the market. Depending on the substrate on which you perform the application, we recommend the use of the following products.

Absorbent substrate (plaster, gypsum, screed)

Vertical application

MAPEI Ultrabond P997 1 K T

MAPEI Ultrabond P997 1 K T MAPEI Keralastic T

Non-absorbent substrates (plastics, metals, ceramics)

MAPEI Keralastic T

Quantity required: approximately 1.1 kg/m² of adhesive. It may happen that for every 20 to 30 m² of laying, the teeth of the trowel become worn to the point of not offering an ideal application. In this case, we recommend replacing the trowel promptly. Once the adhesive has catalysed, remove any excess quantity emerging from the seams between one sheet and another, using a knife and being careful not to scratch the surface of the tiles.

Stucco

For grouting we recommend using the two-component epoxy grouts MAPEI Kerapoxy, Fugalight by Kerakoll. Prepare an amount of grout proportionate to the surface to be grouted. With a scoop pick it up and deposit it on the square trowel; apply the grout proceeding diagonally with respect to the tiles and from bottom to top, filling all the joints and without leaving excess material. Once completed, it is necessary to take immediate action to clean the tiles of grout residue, which it would be impossible to remove once hardened. For this operation you may use a soft cellulose sponge soaked in water. Repeat until the outer surface of the tiles is completely clean (for the last steps you can add a small amount of ethyl alcohol to the water, which helps to remove any residual halos). This can be done using a soft cellulose sponge soaked in water. In the case of outdoor applications, temperature fluctuations can cause expansion and retraction and so it is advisable to use lags no longer than 50 cm and to apply the product with regular grout.

Cleaning

•

It is recommended to periodically clean as necessary with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth and by washing with water or neutral detergent. In the case of profile staining, removing the stain as soon as possible using water and a mild detergent is recommended (the use of abrasive products or solvents, especially acetone, must be absolutely avoided). For outdoor applications, after exposure to the elements, it is possible for the brushed products to have rings on the surface. This phenomenon, caused by the natural fibres in the product, is to be considered normal and will disappear after a few washes with water or after rain. Below is a table with the most common types of stain and their respective remedies:

Wipe with diluted bleach and rinse thoroughly. To remove any scratches you may scuff lightly with fine sandpaper (or with steel brush) in the direction of the brushing. To remove any residual rubber that have ended up inside the brushed surface, use a sharp knife (*). If the mortar has not yet taken hold, wash with water and rinse thoroughly.

Mortar

If the mortar is dry, gently remove the excess mortar; then abrade with a steel brush in the direction of the brushing (*).

(*) Only for sanded or brushed finishes. In the case of a brushed finish, stubborn stains can be removed by scraping off the surface with a steel brush. Follow the brushing direction. For an optimal result, we recommend taking action on the machine as soon as possible. As the material is not very absorbent, some kinds of stain may not be completely removed, as with similar wooden products.

Surface treatment

FILAMP90 ECO Plus produced by Fila Industria Chimica spa can be used to apply a protective coating to reduce staining. This water and oil-repellent protective coating helps to preserve the aesthetic properties of the product and makes it easier to remove any stains. It is advisable to apply the product on the entire surface of the profiles to create a uniform coating. The coating should preferably be applied by a qualified worker. Use a brush to apply a coat of FILAMP90ECO PLUS on a dry surface. Wait 2-3 minutes before using a clean cloth or kitchen paper to remove any traces of the product that have not been absorbed. If you have any doubts or would like further information, please contact the Woodn technical office at: ufficiotecnico@woodn.com. •

All processing residue and profile trimmings must be disposed of in accordance with the local laws and regulations in force. It is advisable not to burn the product.
