Our Dedication This program is dedicated to all of our Dream Chasers and our benefactors who continue to help Henry and me to chase our dreams. Most especially, we are indebted to Edwina and Tom Johnson, retired president and CEO of CNN, who started us on our way. They headed Henry’s 65th birthday fundraiser at which $1.2 million dollars was raised. We thank you. This program is dedicated to President William Jefferson Clinton whose presence on that magnificent night inspired us and electrified the more than 1,400 guests who filled the Hyatt Regency Ballroom in Atlanta. Your presence and support on many subsequent occasions has filled us with gratitude, and we thank you. We dedicate this program to our Chasing the Dream Foundation Board whose support and commitment to help us grow and to serve our Dream Chasers has never ceased. We thank you. We dedicate this program to all of you—known and unknown faces— for your contributions to our foundation. Your help has been invaluable to us and enabled us to provide needed assistance to our Dream Chasers. We thank you! We dedicate this program to our dear friends—Bud and Sue Selig, Thomas and Alba Tull, Aaron and Brenda Turpeau, Allan and Elaine Tanenbaum, and Andy and Carolyn Young—who have always stepped up to the plate when called upon. Indeed, you are always there for us and we thank you. Finally, we dedicate this program to our children—Gaile, Hanky, Larry, Dorinda and Ceci. It is our hope that you will continue to grow and to find your passion, and that you will see in our lives of service and philanthropy a blueprint for your own. - Henry & Billye Aaron

Henry Louis Aaron His Life and Legacy On February 5, 1934, Estella and Herbert
Aaron welcomed into the world their third child—a twelve pound baby boy whom they named Henry Louis. Because of his size they gave him the nickname, “Man.” “Man” turned out to be the biggest of Estella’s eight babies, making him special in the Aaron household. Mrs. Aaron dreamed of her “special child” becoming a teacher.
As he grew up, this twelve pound baby boy shed his
baby fat and became a skinny kid with an intense fire in his belly to play baseball. No matter his size, the nickname “Man” had stuck among his family members and became the name to which he responded. Mrs. Aaron‘s dream of her “special child” becoming a teacher was short-lived as it became more and more apparent that Henry’s passion was not school but baseball. He spent his free time on the sandlots of Mobile, Alabama using sticks for bats and bottle tops for balls.
After
brief seasons in the minor league, fate stepped in and opened the door to one of the greatest careers in the history of sports. Braves outfielder Bobby Thompson broke his ankle in spring training, and 20year old Hank Aaron was called up from the minor leagues to replace him. “Man” hitched his wagon to a “star” and rode off into the annals of history.
Henry’s devotion to baseball paid off
when he played with the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro League and was later scouted and signed by the Milwaukee Braves who sent him to play in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in the Northern League and later to the Sally League in Jacksonville, Florida.

e played 23 seasons in the big leagues; was selected to play in 25 All-Star games; won virtually every hitting and fielding award; set more lifetime records than any player in history; won the World Series for the Milwaukee Braves in 1957 with an 11th inning homerun and was selected “Most Valuable Player” in the National League.

enry was traded at the end of the ’74 season to the Milwaukee Brewers and hit his last home run at Milwaukee’s County Stadium ending his career with 755 in 1976. That record stood until it was broken by Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants in 2007.
In 1982 he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first eligible year, receiving 97.8 percent of the votes, second only to Ty Cobb’s 98.2 percent.
After retiring from playing baseball, Henry
joined the Braves’ front office and became the team’s farm director, building the system that supplied the players that finished in first place 14 consecutive seasons. He continues to work with the Braves as senior vice president of the team.
Continuing his new dream, he became a suc-
cessful entrepreneur, founding two companies: Hammerin’ Hank Automotive with seven automobile dealerships, and the 755 Restaurant Corporation with 22 Popeyes and two Krispy Kreme franchises. He also serves on the boards of DSW Shoes and Medallion Financial.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings–nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much: If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

Lift Every Voice
and
Sing
Lift every voice and sing, ‘Til earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on ‘til victory is won. II Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed. We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered; Out from the gloomy past, ‘til now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. III God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by Thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.

The Hank Aaron Chasing the
Dream Foundation, a philanthropic trust founded by Hank and Billye
Aaron in 1994, was designed to make
grants to children between the ages of nine and 12. Named after the awardwinning Turner Original Productions
documentary Hank Aaron Chasing the
Dream, the Aarons conceived the idea
to help deserving youngsters who also had dreams.
“We established the Chasing the
Dream Foundation to give children
with limited opportunities a chance to pursue their dreams,” said Mrs.
Aaron. “We recognize that many kids
have dreams that their parents cannot always fund. We want to provide
that little extra that can go a long
way toward making the difference in that child’s life. We believe an early
investment in the life of a child can have a lasting impact.” Hank’s goal was to dedicate each of his 755
homeruns to a child who might be inspired to chase their dream.
Hank’s goal was realized: The
foundation has provided financial
assistance to more than 755 Dream Chasers in Atlanta, GA, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Los Angeles, CA, Milwaukee, WI, and Mobile, AL, through neighborhood-based
organizations, such as Boys and Girls Clubs, that enable youngsters to
pursue their dreams in sports, music,
aviation, science, computer technology and other fields of interest.
