Halloween Ken Werner
Originally published in limited quantities in 1981, Halloween: A Fantasy in Three Acts collects photographs taken by Ken Werner at San Francisco’s adult Halloween celebrations from 1976 to 1980, assembling a visual narrative of American consciousness and popular culture as seen through lenses of queerness, black humor, and the macabre. Once touted as the “Mardi Gras of the West,” the raunchy, mostly open-air nighttime costume parties documented by Werner were hugely popular events organized primarily by LGBT and sex worker advocates, attracting tens of thousands of curious attendees as well as conservative ire from around the nation. Reissued for the first time in decades, this underground classic explores a bacchanalia worthy of the pagan and occult roots of the Halloween ritual—a magical dream/nightmare-land of terror and joy, with uninhibited celebrants reveling in stunning self-made guises that combine cartoon logic, sexual extravagance, and a highly irreverent take on American mythologies.

Still Life: Photographs & Love Stories
Kate Sterlin
For decades, photographer Kate Sterlin has made an artistic practice of examining the boundaries between individual, family, and community. In her first book, Still Life: Photographs & Love Stories, she delivers a meditation on love and its ability to weather the brutal specificities of life, death, family and race in America. Pairing intimate photographs with poetic, lyrical writings, Still Life is a hypnagogic narrative that unfolds in a series of overlapping episodes and identities, a testament to one artist’s commitment to creation and a dreamlike blend of the personal and the universal.

Epicly Later’d
Patrick O’Dell
In 2004, well before the advent of social media as a global phenomenon, photographer Patrick O’Dell launched the celebrated blog Epicly Later’d. Dedicated to documenting the adventure and mayhem of the NYC skate/music/downtown scene, the site distinguished itself with its offhand wit, its irreverent cast of characters, and an intimate photo-diary format years ahead of its time. Two decades later, the influence of O’Dell’s work is broadly apparent, and the original photographs still astonish. Compiled by O’Dell and editor Jesse Pearson, Epicly Later’d collects the best of the blog into a body of work that’s evocative, funny, and wildly compelling.

Brian Blomerth’s Lilly Wave
Brian Blomerth
Since 2019, graphic novelist Brian Blomerth’s stunningly original comix histories have combined detailed research and riotous visual wit to illuminate the discovery of LSD (in Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day) and the popularization of psilocybin mushrooms (in Brian Blomerth’s Mycelium Wassonii). Now, in the third entry in his ongoing series, Blomerth opens a porthole on the life, experiments, and addictions of John C. Lilly— the man whose development of the isolation tank, controversial studies in dolphin cognition, and ketamine-fueled dives into the nature of consciousness made him perhaps the most notorious researcher of the psychedelic era. Featuring alien visitations, interspecies encounters, and no shortage of concerned onlookers, Brian Blomerth’s Lilly Wave sees a beloved artist working from an expanded palette of industrial ink-splatter and oceanic airbrushing to bring readers a story that’s equal parts cosmic and paranoid, transcendent and tragic.

Other Networks: A Radical Technology Sourcebook
Lori Emerson
The internet as we know it is not a foregone conclusion. Indeed, the present corporatized, monolithic, surveilled state of our networked communications is just one possibility out of many, and there is radical promise in uncovering hidden alternatives: from pirate radio to barbed wire telegraph, from synthesizers transmitted over the telephone to encoded messages bounced off the surface of the moon. Other Networks is writer and researcher Lori Emerson’s speculative index of communications networks that existed before or outside of the internet: digital as well as analog, IRL as well as imagined, state-sponsored systems of control as well as homebrew communities in the footnotes of hacker culture. Featuring explanatory descriptions of each network, archival images, and original artwork and design by Robert Beatty, Other Networks documents historically alternative networks with a particular eye towards their experimental usage by artists and writers. The result is a boldly creative taxonomy of our networked world, a liberatory sourcebook for readers eager to escape the hegemony of technological history, and a lovingly designed guide to the freedoms and communal possibilities that have been lost along the way.

Lori Emerson is an Associate Professor in the Media Studies Department, Founding Director of the Media Archaeology Lab, and Director of the Intermedia Art, Writing and Performance Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is co-author of The Lab Book: Situated Practices in Media Studies (2022) and author of Reading Writing Interfaces (2014). Her research focuses on uncovering crisis points in past media, points at which there was the possibility—even if never fully realized— for technologies that are definitively “other” than those we have now. She also deconstructs narratives of how contemporary technologies came to be by looking at artists’ and writers’ experiments with network technologies.
The Wizard of Op Ed Emberley
In 1975, more than a decade into a career that would establish him as one of the most innovative children’s book authors of his time, artist and illustrator Ed Emberley followed the gothic woodcuts of his previous book, Suppose You Met a Witch, with a complete left turn: the story of a prince turned into a frog, and the bumbling wizard whose spells take the form of dizzying optical illusions. Combining the bold graphic experimentation of the 1970s Op-Art movement with the charmingly irreverent storytelling for which Emberley is renowned, Wizard of Op is a visual odyssey like no other. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Anthology is proud to reintroduce this little-known masterpiece from a wizard of children’s literature.

Making a Way: Lesbians Out Front
JEB (Joan E. Biren) first introduced viewers to her photographs in 1979 when she published Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians, a groundbreaking celebration of women loving women. In the years that followed, JEB collaborated with poets, musicians, filmmakers, elected officials, healthcare providers, factory workers, spiritual leaders, and others who built communities and worked for political change. Her second book Making a Way: Lesbians Out Front, published in 1987, depicts the spirit and energy of this movement in more than a hundred emotionally resonant photographs that take us from passionate activism to thoughtful solitude, while remarks and remembrances from each woman photographed deepen the historic record. This reissue of Making a Way adds insightful new essays by Cheryl Clarke and JD Samson, resulting in an essential document of an era whose impact continues to be felt across our society today.

JEB (Joan E. Biren) has been influential by actively challenging the representation of lesbians, the way we understand photographic history, and how we speak about image-making. She has documented LGBTQI+ lives and communities since the 1970s, publishing groundbreaking books and making award-winning films. Her first book, Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians, was reissued to international acclaim in 2021 by Anthology Editions. The Dyke Show, a slide presentation JEB toured with through the 1980s, was recently digitized and is now exhibited in video format around the country. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the Getty Museum, the LeslieLohman Museum in NYC, and the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis among other places. Emma Kohlmann: Watercolors
Emma Kohlmann
Over the past decade, artist Emma Kohlmann has harnessed the expressive possibilities of watercolor to develop an astonishing and intimate practice. In the resounding fluidity of her paintings, Kohlmann maps the lineaments and concavities of embodied moments with exquisite sensitivity, celebrating a sensuality freed from analysis and disabusing gender and the human body of their exhausted mythologies. Containing hundreds of selections from 2011 to 2021, during which Kohlmann crafted countless works on paper using sumi ink washes and other techniques, Emma Kohlmann: Watercolors is a survey of an artist working intuitively to generate representative possibilities that are playfully otherworldly and resolutely, thrillingly free.

Travels Over Feeling: Arthur Russell, A Life Richard King
The music of Arthur Russell defies classification. From his pioneering compositions as part of New York’s vibrant avant-garde scene (alongside artists including Philip Glass, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, John Cage, and Allen Ginsberg) to his genre-expanding disco productions, from his new wave and art pop to his posthumously released folk songs, Russell crafted timeless and foundationally influential work until his premature death in 1992 from AIDS-related illnesses.
Now, in a landmark publication assembled by critically-acclaimed writer Richard King, Travels Over Feeling collects the extensive ephemera found in Russell’s New York Public Library archive, along with pieces from the personal collections of those who were closest to him. Combining unseen visual material—handwritten scores, lyrics, photos, letters, and drawings—with new texts by King and extensive original interviews with Arthur’s collaborators, contemporaries, family, and friends, Travels Over Feeling paints a portrait of Arthur Russell unlike any which has come before, revealing a true picture of one of the most distinctive artists of the last fifty years.

Charles Arthur Russell Jr., better known as Arthur Russell (May 21, 1951—April 4, 1992) was an American cellist, composer, producer, singer, and musician from Iowa whose work spanned a disparate range of styles. After studying contemporary composition and Indian classical music in California, Russell relocated to New York City in the mid-1970s, where he became involved with both Lower Manhattan’s avant-garde community and the city’s burgeoning disco scene. His eclectic music was often marked by adventurous production choices and his distinctive voice. He died from AIDS-related illnesses in 1992.
Richard King was born in South Wales and for the last twenty years has lived in the rural county of Powys, in mid-Wales. He is author of Original Rockers (2015), which was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize, and How Soon Is Now? (2012), which was Sunday Times Music Book of the Year. The Lark Ascending was published in 2019, and was a Rough Trade, Mojo, and Evening Standard Book of the Year. His latest book, Brittle with Relics, was published in February 2022.
The Beautiful Flower Is the World
Jerry Hsu
Legendary skateboarder and artist Jerry Hsu started his blog NAZI GOLD in 2009 as a repository for the cell phone photos he’d been collecting alongside his more traditional photography and film practices: shots of friends and strangers, roadside curiosities, and anything else that seemed to merit instant sharing with both peers and the public. In the ensuing years, the site grew from an exercise in visual note-taking into a uniquely hysterical embodiment of both Hsu’s keen artistic sense and his razor-sharp wit. Documenting his journeys through the high and low trappings of our culture, Hsu’s work captures everything from bootleg t-shirts and bathroom stall graffiti to unexpected truths and the occasional startling moment of humanity. An unerringly creative and endlessly clever chronicle of the deep ironies of our modern world, The Beautiful Flower Is the World, now in a lush hardcover second edition, collects the best of Hsu’s blog photography into a compelling and immersive whole.

Suppose You Met a Witch
Ian Seraillier, Illustrated by Ed Emberley
In 1973, artist and illustrator Ed Emberley had been prolifically creating children’s books for more than a decade when he conceived his most ambitious project to date. Suppose You Met a Witch, featuring Emberley’s signature style at its most lavish, is considered by many to be the beloved artist’s masterpiece. Sadly, the book was not a big hit at the time, and has gone on to become one of the hardest-to-find works in Emberley’s catalog. We are delighted to have the chance to reintroduce it to a new audience.
Packed with extraordinary imagery and rich with visual wit, Suppose You Met a Witch lets us all experience what it must be like to be under a witch’s spell. Reissued for the first time since 1973, the book uses Ian Serraillier’s striking poem and Ed Emberley’s psychedelic illustrations to show us what happens when two clever and resourceful children encounter a witch in the darkest part of the wood.

Obstreperous
Ted Greenwood
Originally published in 1969, Obstreperous is Australian artist and author Ted Greenwood’s first book, released a year after the author left a career as an art teacher to pursue his creative work full-time. Named Picture Book of the Year by the Children’s Book Council, the heartfelt—if not altogether lovable—Obstreperous marks the beginning of Greenwood’s unique contribution to children’s literature.
“A kite was born one morning…” the book begins, “in the mind of its Maker.” And with that, we are off, following a disorderly kite’s journey from vision to creation, the formation of an identity (“Obstreperous,” as coined by Mr. Crinkle, a neighbor trying to garden his cabbages in peace), and eventual separation and release into blissful autonomy. Illustrated in saturated and see-through hues, the touchingly bittersweet Obstreperous guides makes plain the deceptively complex philosophical dimension underlying even the most unassuming children’s literature, and serves as a shining example of Greenwood’s warm and unique style.

Skydance
Faith Hubley, Text by Elizabeth Swados
In their 1955 wedding vows, experimental animators Faith and John Hubley promised they would make one film a year. Until John’s passing in 1977, the duo worked together on dozens of animated films and projects, often collaborating with renowned jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie and Herb Alpert for scoring and soundtracks. The pair won several Academy Awards for their short films, and for residents of Marinette, Wisconsin—John’s hometown—the mayor named May 20, 2023 “John and Faith Hubley Day.”
Faith made twenty-four animated films on her own, starting in 1977. Her short film Sky Dance (1980) was shortlisted in the 1980 Cannes Film Festival for the Short Film Palme d’Or, the highest prize given to a short film in the festival. Her daughters Emily and Georgia (who would later co-found musical ensemble Yo La Tengo) helped with the artwork and animation.
Reprinted for the first time since its 1981 release, Anthology is honored to publish Skydance, the book adaptation of Faith Hubley’s now-classic film. Fully realized in richly abstract illustrations, and with evocative, rhythmic prose by musician, writer, and composer Elizabeth Swados, Skydance is a playful tribute to life on other planets.

The story of the legendary Swedish psych rock band Träd, Gräs och Stenar is also a defining story of alternative culture. Across multiple incarnations, the musicians of this iconic group (whose name translates to “Trees, Grass and Stones”) have drawn on their roots in jazz and the avant-garde, the iconoclastic art and theater of the 1960s, and the back-to-the-land “green wave” movement to blaze a pioneering trail across fifty years of endlessly improvisational, resolutely DIY rock and roll jams. In this book, the collective’s members tell their story for the first time, accompanied by a vast archive of photographs, newspaper clippings, posters, flyers, album covers, and paintings. With its in-depth oral history and rich visuals, this book provides valuable insight into over five decades of internationally-renowned musical and countercultural innovation.

Evidence for Contact: Ken Grimes, 1993-2001 Ken Grimes
The paintings of Ken Grimes are strikingly honest, deceptively simple, and decidedly interstellar. Over several decades, Grimes has developed his singular style—using text, numbers, outer space iconography, and geometric shapes painted primarily in stark black and white—to prompt his audience to consider the possibilities and implications of alien contact with earth. Influenced by the proliferation of sci-fi media in his youth, Grimes has also continued to be moved by popular culture, a motif which intermingles with his interest in outer space in ways both earnest and irreverent. Showcasing art from Grimes’s long career, Evidence for Contact catalogs the endless variations on a theme produced by an absolutely unique painter during a lifetime devoted to the mysteries of extraterrestrial life.

Sunken Heights
Elias B. Rønnenfelt, Artwork by Elizabeth Peyton
The debut book from acclaimed musician Elias B. Rønnenfelt, Sunken Heights is a work of poetry in a grand tradition: a quest in verse through reverie and observation, equal parts enigmatically abstracted and grittily real. Presented in both the original Danish text and Rønnenfelt’s own English translation, Sunken Heights balances the poet’s reflections on the aggressive and primal present with strikingly romantic and surprisingly vulnerable musings on variations of love, delusion, and maturation in a smoldering world.

Empire Roller Disco Patrick D. Pagnano
Brooklyn’s Empire Rollerdrome opened its doors in 1941 and soon became the borough’s premier destination for recreational and competitive roller skating. But it wasn’t until the late 1970s that the celebrated rink reached iconic status by replacing its organist with a live DJ, installing a state of the art sound and light system, and renaming itself after the nationwide dance craze it had helped to originate: the Empire Roller Disco was born. In 1980, the acclaimed street photographer Patrick D. Pagnano went on assignment to document the Empire and its legendary cast of partygoers. The resulting photographs, gathered in Empire Roller Disco for the first time, capture the vibrant spirits, extraordinary styles, and sheer joys of Brooklyn roller disco at its dizzying peak.

Joe Roberts
The paintings, drawings, and mixed-media works of Joe Roberts are transportive in the cosmic sense. Through their intuitive blend of styles and subjects, they serve as portals into a welcomingly hallucinatory world: a place where gleeful mashups of childhood signifiers (comic book detritus, cartoon mascots) exist cozily alongside countercultural reference points (ouija boards, sci-fi paperbacks, UFOs) and earnest flashes of the personal (diaristic sketches, confessional trip reports). Reissued for the first time since 2015, LSD Worldpeace documents the extraordinary creativity and scrappy methods of Roberts’s early career, replete with collages, action figures, and dioramas, in addition to the paintings for which he’s become so celebrated. With introductory texts by Myla DalBesio and Matthew Ronay, LSD Worldpeace is the product of a wildly imaginative artist moving freely between modes, guided by a boundless vision.

After All Is Said and Done: Taping the Grateful Dead, 1965-1995
Mark A. Rodriguez
If any one musical act of the rock and roll era can be said to have transcended the simple categorization of “band,” the Grateful Dead is it: by the time they stopped performing in 1995, the Dead had become an international institution with a vast backing organization, a massive and devoted fanbase, and archival recordings both official and bootlegged. The cultural significance of these bootlegs—live concert cassettes which solidified the Dead’s legendary status even as they occupied a legal gray area for decades—is utterly unique in the annals of music, and the story of their creation, trading, and endless proliferation is a people’s history unto itself. Featuring dozens of interviews with tape enthusiasts and members of the Grateful Dead organization as well as the show stopping visuals from hundreds of archival cassette covers, After All Is Said and Done is artist Mark A. Rodriguez’s exploration of that history, a saga of homegrown psychedelia, anarchic graphic styles, and black market fandom as written in magnetic tape.

Brian Blomerth’s Mycelium Wassonii
Brian Blomerth
Brian Blomerth first fused his singularly irreverent underground comix style with heavilyresearched history in 2019’s Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day, a Technicolor retelling of the discovery of LSD. Now, the illustrator and graphic novelist continues his wild and woolly excursions into the history of mind expansion with Mycelium Wassonii, an account of the lives and trips of R. Gordon and Valentina Wasson, the pioneering scientist couple responsible for popularizing the use of psychedelic mushrooms in the United States. The Wassons’ journeys took them from Russian folk wisdom to midcentury Manhattan, from the indigenous traditions of the Mazatec people of Mexico to the mysteries of ancient Rome. A globetrotting vision of science and mysticism with appearances by J.P. Morgan, Robert Graves, Life, and the CIA, Mycelium Wassonii is a visual biography and a tragic love story as only Blomerth’s Isograph pen can render it.

Some Collages Jim Jarmusch
Although Jim Jarmusch is best known for his storied career in independent cinema, over the years he has produced hundreds of pieces of collage art, the majority of which has been rarely seen by the public. Drawing inspiration from the largest medium of cultural documentation—newspapers—Jarmusch delicately crafts each work by layering newsprints on cardstock. Doppelgänger Andy Warhols are posed in a vast tunnel not unlike the depths of the Large Hadron Collider, Patty Hearst’s mugshots drift across Edwardian portraits, and a man’s identity is disguised with a coyote’s head: maybe he was a celebrity, politician, perp, or all three. In Some Collages, these smallscale (notecard-size) pieces are a reminder of how even the most mundane stock photography can be hijacked to create work that is scary-funny.

Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians
In 1979, JEB self-published her first book, Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians. Revolutionary at that time, JEB made photographs of lesbians from different ages and backgrounds in their everyday lives—working, playing, raising families, and striving to remake their worlds. The photographs were accompanied by writings from acclaimed authors including Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, Joan Nestle, and others. Various women pictured in the book also shared their personal stories. Eye to Eye signaled a radical new way of seeing—moving lesbian lives from the margins to the center, and reversing a history of invisibility. More than just a book, it was an affirmation of the existence of lesbians that helped to propel a political movement. Reprinted for the first time in forty years, Eye to Eye is a faithful reproduction of a work that still resonates today. This edition features additional essays from artist and writer Tee Corinne, former World Cup soccer player Lori Lindsey, and photographer Lola Flash.

ANOHNI and Marti Wilkerson
From June 1992 to March 1995, in the midst of the AIDS crisis in NYC, an extraordinary theatrical collective emerged from the queer underground. Blacklips Performance Cult, initiated by ANOHNI and joined by a cabal of fellow artists, drag queens, punks, nightlife veterans and students, performed a new play every Monday night at 1:00 a.m. at the Pyramid Club on 101 Avenue A. Blacklips never courted mainstream attention. However, the group left a sustaining impression within New York’s late night subculture by melding hysterical drag, surreal horror, and disconcerting tenderness.
In Blacklips: Her Life and Her Many, Many Deaths, ANOHNI and coeditor Marti Wilkerson lay bare the collective’s archives in photographs, scripts, and the assembled ephemera from more than one hundred and twenty original “plays.” Featuring images from newly digitized film and video recordings, texts from participants and audience members, and an introduction by Lia Gangitano, this expansive collection introduces to the twenty-first century the short-lived and ruthlessly creative phenomenon that was Blacklips.

William Softkey and the Purple Spider
Buried deep under sand sits a library the size of a small city, owned by the eerily powerful Mr. Wish and protected by roving bands of toughs and lethal sentient vehicles. When a small but heavy interdimensional spider demands access to the vault, poor William Softkey, with assistance from the gravity-experimenter Gigglewindow sisters, is hired to deal with the problem. Rendered in the artist’s trademark stark linework— against a backdrop of paranoid techno-fantasy, strange emblematic beings, and woozy halftone patterns—William Softkey and the Purple Spider is acclaimed cartoonist CF’s second dreamy narrative published under the Anthology Editions banner.

Transcendent Waves Lavender Suarez
How can thoughtfully and intentionally listening to our world inspire our creative practices? What insights can we gain when we delve into the immersive world of sound, which permeates our every moment? In Transcendent Waves, sound healing practitioner, meditation teacher, and artist Lavender Suarez outlines how listening can unlock moments of creative spark, self-awareness, and mindfulness in a work that is equal parts how-to guide and contemplative artist’s workbook. Suarez’s illustrated meditations combine the open-ended freedom of Yoko Ono’s Grapefruit with the profound psychological insights of Oliver Sacks to offer a modern take on the impact of listening in a world that gets louder every day. Featuring an introduction by Bibbe Hansen—artist, Warhol star, and daughter of Fluxus cofounder Al Hansen— Transcendent Waves compiles scientific evidence, anecdotes, and thoughtful prompts for readers to manifest a sense of wonderment and appreciation for the intricacies of listening and the new perspectives it can bring to our daily creative worlds.

Under the Banner of Concern
Tim Presley
Under the Banner of Concern is a compilation of drawings and poetry from acclaimed artist and musician Tim Presley. Featuring art from Under the Banner of Concern, Presley’s 2019 exhibition in Chicago and Los Angeles, the black ink drawings merge abstracted and expressionistic brush and line work, the latter of which breaks down figures into simple forms. Characterized by Presley’s “every figure” symbology in their emptied out flat bodies and hollowed eye sockets, these figures are represented as both sexualized and mask-like. In addition to his exhibited drawings, the book will also feature previously unreleased artwork, as well as new poetry from Presley. Under the Banner of Concern is a psychedelic visual experience that is a place for introspection rather than pure image-making.

13th Floor Elevators: A Visual History
Paul Drummond
Born out of a union of club bands on the burgeoning Austin bohemian scene and a pronounced taste for hallucinogens, the 13th Floor Elevators were formed in late 1965 when lyricist Tommy Hall asked a local singer named Roky Erickson to join up with his new rock outfit. Four years, three official albums, and countless acid trips later, it was over: the Elevators’ pioneering first run ended in a dizzying jumble of professional mismanagement, internal arguments, drug busts, and forced psychiatric imprisonments. In their short existence, however, the group succeeded in blowing the lid off the budding musical underground, logging early salvos in the countercultural struggle against state authorities, and turning their deeply hallucinatory take on jug-band garage rock into a new American institution called psychedelic music. Writer Paul Drummond has gathered an unprecedented catalog of primary materials—including scores of previously-unseen band photographs, rare and iconic artwork of the era, items from family scrapbooks and personal diaries, new and archival interviews, dozens of contemporaneous press accounts, and no shortage of Austin Police Department records—to tell the complete and unvarnished story of a band which, until now, has been tragically under-documented. Before the hippies, before the punks, there were the 13th Floor Elevators: an unlikely crew of outcast weirdo geniuses who changed culture.

Death Magick Abundance
Akasha Rabut
More than any party, parade, team, or disaster, New Orleans is the people. The ones who persevere, survive, strengthen, and transform the city in all its unceasing vibrancy. For nearly a decade, photographer Akasha Rabut has documented this thriving culture. In Death Magick Abundance, her first book, she reveals the city’s spirit through the pink smoke of the Caramel Curves, the first all-female black motorcycle club; alongside the Southern Riderz, urban cowboys on horseback in the streets; and many others who represent the next generation of New Orleans. Seeking to interpret and preserve a sacred cultural heritage while redefining itself against a constantly shifting landscape, Death Magick Abundance is a conduit for the love and unending beauty of New Orleans and its people to flow to the rest of the world.

Coincidences Jonathan Higbee
Photographer Jonathan Higbee spent years painstakingly documenting fleeting juxtapositions on the streets of New York. These intersections of passers-by, street signs, billboards, and more take on new meaning and life through the lens of Higbee’s camera: as a dancer on a stage of trash, graffiti unfurling from a backpack, to even a giant casually walking the streets of the city. Each photograph captures the wit, joy, and surrealism of everyday life in a sometimes chaotic world. Featuring new photographs, as well as seminal photos from his initial series, Coincidences is Higbee’s self-professed love letter to New York and its moments of serendipity.

Spirit of 76 John Ingham
When punk first broke in the UK in 1976, music journalist John Ingham was on hand to document the very heart of the scene. Struck by the music, fashion, and sheer iconoclasm of a little-known outfit called the Sex Pistols, Ingham conducted the first interview with the band, partied with its members, and even bailed Sid Vicious out of jail; he also witnessed and documented the group’s evolution at legendary gigs shared with other pioneering punk bands in their earliest days, including the Damned, the Clash, Subway Sect, and more. The result is Spirit of 76: London Punk Eyewitness, a revelatory collection of photography and fly-on-the-wall reportage showcasing the punk movement from its most raucous, bewildering beginnings.
