Ian Serraillier (1912–1994) was a renowned English author and poet especially known for his children’s books. His wartime adventure story The Silver Sword (1956) is a beloved classic, and has been adapted twice for television. In 1948, he founded the New Windmill Series for Heinemann Educational Books with his wife, Anne, which he would co-edit for decades.

Ed Emberley is the illustrator and author of over eighty books, including the bestselling Go Away, Big Green Monster! and his enormously popular “Drawing Book” series. He has received many awards and accolades, including a Caldecott Honor in 1967 for One Wide River to Cross and a Caldecott Medal in 1968 for Drummer Hoff.

Ken Grimes is an American artist from Cheshire, Connecticut. Having been interested in extraterrestrial life from a young age, he has dedicated his long career to exploring alien and galactic symbols and imagery. In 2013 he received a Wynn Newhouse Award, and his work is in permanent collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the American Folk Art Museum, among others.

Seth Shostak is an astronomer from Arlington County, Virginia. Having been interested in space and the possibility of extraterrestrial life from a young age, he received degrees in physics and astrophysics at Princeton and California Institute of Technology. Shostak has contributed to four books, has spent a large portion of his career in public outreach and education, and now serves as a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute, the non-profit research institution dedicated to the study and understanding of life in the universe.

Joe Roberts is an artist and illustrator. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, he later studied at the San Francisco Art Institute. Pagnano moved to New York City from Chicago in 1974 and immersed himself in an art practice that would grow to include street work, portraiture, and documentary photography. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and numerous other institutions. He passed away in 2018.

Miss Rosen is a writer and editor based in Brooklyn. Since launching her journalistic career as an art and nightclub critic for the Village Voice in 1997, she has gone on to publish work in magazines such as L’Uomo Vogue, Bust, Juxtapoz, and Paper as well as on websites including AnOther, Aperture, Dazed, Huck, and Vogue. California Trip Dennis Stock

In 1968, photographer Dennis Stock took a five-week road trip along the California highways, documenting the height of the counterculture hippie scene.
