RAISING A 4-H PROJECT

The 4-H program promotes the “learn to do, by doing” mind-set in youth. The process of selecting, caring for, and raising these animals to the best of their ability is the job of the 4-H youth, who range in age from 6 years to 21 years. Through mentors they discover what their animal likes to eat and what nutrition the animal needs, what makes the animal most comfortable (large pen size, clean bedding, feed variety are examples), how to identify health problems and determine a course of action to resolve the issue, and how to train these animals to follow a lead, have a bath, and learn to accept pets and scratches from their human care takers.

Raising a beef animal is hard work! 4-H members start a beef market project in October and typically finish in May or June. Likewise, members start a market Lamb project in March and finish in May or June. Feeding, grooming, pen cleaning, and animal care culminate in countless hours of work by the members to grow and deliver a quality animal to the buyer.

Be prepared with a plan for what you want to have happen to the lamb or steer you have purchased. You can take it home, send it to a processor or check out the explanation of our resale program below.

This year all our steers have been booked for processing at the Cluny Red Meats at Cluny Colony near Strathmore. Cut and wrap sheets will be available at the show and sale. Please submit with your payment. Cut and wrapped beef will be shipped back to Carstairs and will be available for pick up on a specified date once processing is complete.

This year all our market lambs have been booked for processing at Red Deer Lake Meats. All market lambs will be shipped for processing the night of the sale. Cut and wrap instructions will be available at the Show and Sale. Please submit instructions with your payment.

If you or your company wishes to purchase an animal and donate it to the Food Bank, please be aware your company is responsible for the cut and wrap charges on the animal.

Our 4-H members have fed these animals themselves. If you have questions about what feed these animals have had, please ask any of the members and they will tell you. Interested in purchasing quarter or half an animal? Contact any of our Sale Committee members or club contacts for assistance in finding another buyer.

If you wish to bring your purchased steer or lamb home for a farm kill or prefer to use your own abattoir, please have arrangements made to transport your purchase home from the Show and Sale.

For those wishing to resale their steer or lamb, The Show and Sale committee will have a minimum resale price posted at the Show and Sale. All resale steers will be insured and held at Juwill Farms until they are run through the following Tuesday’s sale at Rosehill Auctions. Those wishing to resell their lambs, please contact the show and sale committee.

RESALE PROGRAM BUYERS INCENTIVE Buyer Info

The West Carstairs, Cremona and Prairie Partners Clubs are offering a buyers incentive. After the sale, two buyers names will be drawn from each club, one steer buyer and one lamb buyer. Steer buyers whose name is drawn will receive a $400 buyers credit, lamb buyers whose name is drawn will receive a $50 buyers credit.

Blake Breuer

Hi, my name is Blake Breuer, and this is my second year in 4-H. This year my steer’s name is Jerald. He is a purebred Black Angus steer, and he already weighs 1607lbs and is on a diet! Jerald is really tame and loveable. My favourite thing about 4H is learning to care for my cattle and doing group activities as a club. I would like to invite you to our show and sale. Come find me and I can tell you all about Jerald!

Cade Roy

Brennan Ostermeier

My name is Brennan Ostermeier and this is my 5th year in 4-H. This is my first year having a Market Steer. This is my steer Squid. He is a Limousin x Simmental/Speckle Park. Squid was selected from a quiet herd with over 40 years of selected Limousin genetics to improve muscling and carcass yield. Squid is no exception when it comes to his Limousin traits! He is also a gentle, relaxed steer and has been a great first steer for me to work with. I am very excited to show my Squid, and I know he will be a great addition to anyone’s freezer!

Hi, my name is Cade Roy and this is my 4th year in 4-H. I am twelve years old and have a steer named Chewbacca or Chewy for short. My goal this year is to improve on showmanship. This year we think that at the time of writing this Chewy is 1300 pounds. That shows that by final show and sale time he will be a lot heavier and will look great on your barbecue, and plate. So, instead of me making your mouth water, let’s get to the show and I hope to see you there!

Carter Kamlah

Hi! My name is Carter Kamlah, and this is my first year with projects in 4-H. I have 3 projects, my carcass steer Oreo, heifer Cherry and my show steer Ben. My homegrown steer’s name is Ben and he is an Angus X. I like Ben because he has lots of hair and is quiet. We feed silage, grain, and cotton. I hope you come to the Show and Sale and I can show you my steer. Come on May 19 and 20 and I will talk more about my animals to you.

Elias Conrad

My name is Elias, and this is my steer, Wayne. It’s my first year in 4-H and it’s been a lot of fun. My steer’s name is Wayne because the number on his ear-tag when I first got him was 99. Can you guess why? Wayne is a Black Angus with a calm, friendly personality. I think he was a great steer to start 4-H with. I hope to see you at the show and sale this May!

Frank Holloway

Hello, my name is Frank I am 16 years old, this is my second year doing 4-H and being a part of the West Carstairs 4-H Club. This year I am doing a market steer. The animal you see beside me, his name is “Gurnett” and is an Angus cross and a great steer. I am also doing a carcass project that is staying alongside my market project at home. Thanks for supporting 4-H and hope to see you at this year’s Show and Sale.

Hayden Kamlah

My name is Hayden Kamlah and this year I picked a unique colored steer I named Peter. This is my fourth year in 4-H. Peter is an Angus X steer that I picked from my families herd. He is on a mixture of corn silage, grain and cotton mixture. I am working on leading him and getting him show ready. I would like to invite you to come to the Show and Sale this year and look at Peter. Thank you to Clint and Marsha Aarsby and Scott Stock Farm for purchasing my steer last year! Come find me at the show if you have any questions or want to know more about Peter.

Jace Hurum

Welcome to the Carstairs 4-H Show and Sale. My name is Jace Hurum, this is my 7th year in the West Carstairs 4-H Club. This year I have a red Simmental Market Street named Ghost Rider and a black Simmental Heifer named Mabel. Both are homegrown projects and I’m proud to have my steer in the 4-H auction sale. If you are looking to support youth in agriculture and enjoy some tasty beef, come see me on sale day.

Kate Monea

Hi, I’m Kate. I’m nine years old, an aspiring drummer and this is my first year as a junior member in 4-H. This is my market steer named Blue Magic. I got the name from a famous bucking bull. Luckily Blue Magic is nothing like the bucking bull. He is a home raised steer on rolled barley, hay, silage and fresh water. Blue Magic is a Shorthorn Simmental cross, and a picky eater! When I say picky eater, I mean picky. He likes his silage warm which was a challenge when it was really cold outside. I hope you come see Blue Magic and I in the show ring!

Leroy Prochnavy

Hi, my name is Leroy. I’m 11 years old. This is my first year in the 4-H program. I have a handsome masked faced Black Angus/ Simmental yearling steer. We have fed him premium hay with a barley supplement daily. This breed of steer is known for their marbled meats. In my opinion, Black Angus cross Simmental cattle are one of the best crosses you could have. All the effort put into Storm’s wellbeing makes a guaranteed great choice that will not disappoint. Please consider buying my steer, Storm, to feed your family this year.

Natalie Conrad

Hi, my name is Natalie. I’m twelve years old and this is my first year in 4-H. My steer’s name is Hefty. He’s a Black Angus with a spunky and friendly personality. He loves grain and always comes when we feed him. I hope to see you at the show and sale!

Payton Verbonac

Hi, my name is Payton, and this is my market steer Diago. Diago is a home grown, hormone free Angus cross Simmental steer. This is my fifth year in 4-H. This year I have five projects – a Market steer, Carcass steer, Heifer, 2-year-old and a 3-year-old cow/calf pair. Diago is a deep, and thick steer, who is sure to be a good eating steer. He has been gaining well and will be finished for your enjoyment. He will have lots of delicious cuts for your barbecue this summer. I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all previous and future buyers for your continued support as it is appreciated. Diago and I look forward to seeing you at this years show & sale!

Piper Roy

Hello! My name is Piper Roy, and I am in my fifth year of 4H in the West Carstairs Club. This year I have 3 projects; a heifer, a carcass calf, and a Purebred Charolais steer named Milwaukee. He is a great steer to work with and a food motivated boy. Milwaukee is always first to the feed and doesn’t stop eating until there is nothing left. He loves having baths and his favourite is butt rubs! At our farm we feed the best feed, and we don’t give them any antibiotics or vaccines. I can assure you that the beef from our farm is the cleanest! Milwaukee and I are looking forward to seeing you at the Carstairs Show and Sale this upcoming May!

Riley Breuer

Hello, my name is Riley Breuer. This is my 5th year in 4-H. This year I have a steer named Hank. Hank is a Hereford Simmental and Angus cross. He is the heaviest steer I have had yet and was the easiest to halter break. As of March 1st, he weighed 1520lbs. I would like to invite you to the show and sale to look at all the hard work we 4-H members put into our projects. Pop by my stall and I will introduce myself and my steer Hank.

Riley Kamlah

Hi! My name is Riley Kamlah and this is my 3rd year in 4-H. Thank you to Scott Stock Farm and Clint and Marsha Aarsby for buying my last year’s steer. This year I named my steer Coca-Cola, I picked him from our herd because I like red steers, and he is a Simmental X. He is gaining weight steadily on a silage and grain ration I mix for him. Come find me at the Show and Sale and I will tell you all about him!

Rory Hurum

My name is Rory Hurum, this is my 4th year in 4-H. I’m an intermediate this year and have a Simmental Market Steer and a Suffolk cross Market Lamb up for auction. They are both going to be big boys! I’m also excited to show my beef heifer and ewe lamb. Please come see me sale day so I can give you all the details about my projects. Thank you for your interest in my projects and supporting our 4-H Show and Sale.

Shepherd Ostermeier

“My name is Shepherd Ostermeier, this is my 5th year in 4-H. I am the CLUB president this year and have learned a lot of important life lessons. 4-H has been an important part of my life, it not only showed me how to care and control these amazing animals, but it has also taught me leadership and communication. The values of this program have greatly influenced my life, and I hope to encourage others in these values. This year I have a market steer named Creed. Creed is Limousin X Angus. 2 weeks after I brought Creed home, I took him to his first show in Taber. He may not have won but that’s not why I went. I wanted Creed to have a good experience and to get used to the feeling of a show before the show season. A more relaxed steer leads to better meat quality. Creed is a well muscled sturdy steer with a quiet, easygoing personality. I have enjoyed working with him this year and I know he would be a great addition to anyone’s freezer! Thank you for considering supporting everyone at this year’s show and sale and I hope to see you there!

Sierra Verbonac

Hi, my name is Sierra, and this is my market steer Zeke. Zeke is a home grown, hormone free Simmental cross steer out of my own cow. This is my third year in 4-H but my first year with a market steer project. This year I have three projects – a Market steer, Market Lamb, and a 2-year-old cow/ calf pair. Zeke is a very chill steer, who eats well and is sure to be delicious. He has been gaining well and will be finished for your enjoyment. He will have lots of delicious cuts for your barbecue this summer. I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all previous and future buyers for your continued support as it is appreciated. Zeke and I look forward to seeing you at this years show & sale!

Wesley Monea

Hi. My name is Wesley. I am 11 years old, in grade 6 and this is my third year in 4-H. This year I picked a steer named Red Sky and he is a Simmental Shorthorn. We keep on bumping up his feed every day to keep him growing. He’s on rolled barley, hay and some silage mixed in with grain. I chose his name because he is red and my dad always says this quote “red sky at night, sailors delight”. My steer is an energetic, playful fella with a good sense of humour. I invite you to come to our show and sale to meet Red Sky and all of the other projects. I hope to see you there.

Wyley Schmitt

Hello. I am Wyley Schmitt, and this is my second year with the West Carstairs 4-H Club. This year, I have two projects: a carcass steer and my market steer, Uncle Buck. Uncle Buck is a Charolais cross who I have been hand-feeding since October. He has been gaining well and will be nicely finished. Besides 4-H, I also enjoy hunting, fishing, and riding my dirt bike. Come down to the Carstairs and District Show and Sale; Uncle Buck and I would love to see you there!

Zander Ewert

My name is Zander Ewert. I am 17 years old and in grade 11 at Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs. I have two projects this year: a Maine/ Angus market steer named Oklahoma, and a Maine/Angus heifer named Miss Moonstone. I also have a steer that I am raising through the Calgary Stampede OH Ranch Branded Beef Youth Ambassador program. I am very excited to showcase my projects this year as I believe that they are an excellent representation of the cattle industry. Aleah Farquharson

My name is Aleah Farquharson and this is Black Licorice, my market Steer. I am 11 years old, and this is my second year in 4-H. Raising my steer this year has been an amazing experience! I’ve spent so much time taking care of him—feeding him every day, brushing him to keep his coat shiny, and making sure he’s healthy and strong. It wasn’t always easy, but I learned a lot about responsibility and hard work. All of us in Cremona 4-H are proud of how far we’ve come with our steers. When you buy one, you’re getting a high-quality animal, but you’re also helping us reach our goals and keep learning. Thank you so much for supporting kids like me—it means a lot!

Amelia Farquharson

Hi! My name is Amelia Farquharson, and I’m 12 years old. This is my third year in 4-H, and I’m so excited to be selling my market steer, Captain Morgan. Captain Morgan is purebred Black Angus and has been an amazing project for me this year. I’ve spent many hours feeding, grooming, and working with him to make sure he’s ready for the sale. Captain Morgan is raised on a balanced diet of home-grown grain and hay, and I’ve worked hard to ensure he’s healthy and wellcared for. I’ve learned so much about responsibility and dedication through this project. Thank you for supporting 4-H and helping kids like me achieve our goals!

Bentley Quigley

Hello, my name is Bentley Quigley and this is my 6th year in 4-H. This is my steer Bo and he is a Simmental. Bo has been a pretty good steer. Although he has been good he is also very lazy. Bo was 950 lbs at weigh in and in February he was 1250 lbs. I hope he finishes around 1500 lbs or more in May. Right now Bo is eating 40 lbs of feed per day and gaining well. Thank you for your interest and I hope to see you at the 2025 4-H Show and Sale on May 20.

Billy Bennett

Hello, my name is Billy Bennett, and this is my 7th year in the Cremona 4-H Club. This year I have a welding project, carcass beef and this Showy Market Steer. I selected him from the WA Ranches and he was raised on lease lands near Water Valley. He is a younger calf born in May, and he will be an eating experience when you purchase this beef project! Thank you for the support of 4-H, I look forward to showing you my Angus/Simmental black steer, ‘Marlboro’. He is a smokin’ good steer!

Charlotte Keitel

Hi, I’m Charlotte Keitel. This is my 7th year with 4-H and I can confidently say that this has been one of the most influential organizations I have been a part of. From helping younger members and developing my skills with animals and caring for them, to learning public speaking and multi-judging, 4-H has helped me in so many ways. This year, I am Secretary and a senior in the Cremona club, I have a market steer and lamb, ewe lamb, mature ewe, and carcass lamb. Now without further ado, allow me to introduce you to West. West is a Simmental Angus x. I have been feeding West rolled barley and a nutritional supplement with greenfeed and sainfoin hay on the side. I have made an effort to work with West this year and it has definitely been a lot of fun to train him into a show ready steer. From lazy afternoons sprawled in the sun giving him scratches, to muddy days trudging through puddles on walks with him, West has been a joy to work with from the day I brought him home. I hope to see you at the Show ‘n Sale and I would be pleased to chat with you all about my projects and 4-H in general. You can find me somewhere around West or my market lamb, Albie!

Dylan Oldale

Hi, my name is Dylan Oldale. I am 14 years old and in grade 9. This is my 5th year in 4-H. I am a member of the Cremona 4-H Club. My projects this year are sheep (ewe lamb, yearling ewe, mature ewe, market lamb), horse, and my market beef. My market steers name this year is Major. He is fed barley, beef supplement and mixed grass hay. I love raising steers and want to keep having them as a project. Thank you for supporting me and the Cremona 4-H Club.

Emily Brink

My name is Emily Brink. This is my 4th year of 4-H and my steer’s name is Brad. He is a Hereford Simmental Cross. I really enjoy having him as a steer. I’m really looking forward to seeing how everyone does in this show and sale! I’m calling my steer this year Bocephus. He is an Angus x Simmental and has been a joy to work with this past winter. He has been staying on feed well and gaining nicely, so he should make for good eating. I hope to see you all down at the arena this May long!

Hailey Oldale

Hello, my name is Hailey Oldale. I am 13 and I am in Grade 8 at WG Murdoch in Crossfield. This is my 5th year in 4-H. This year for 4-H projects I have a flock (mature ewe, yearling ewe, and a ewe lamb), a market lamb, a horse project and a market steer. My steers name is Mike-Ike and he is my biggest baby. I really like how kind he is, he has been a really good project for halter breaking and working with. He is getting barley, steer supplement, and mixed grass hay. Mike-Ike was born in March and weighed in at our 4-H weigh day at 674 lbs. I like to walk in our field with Mike-Ike. His favourite thing is when I give him scratches. Thank you for reading and for considering buying my 2025 4-H steer, Mike-Ike.

Hudson Rohleder

Hey buyers! My name is Hudson Rohleder and this is my first year as intermediate, so my fourth year in 4-H. Ernie is my steer this year. I’m also doing metal works and building a coat hook that I forged, and it will also be available during the auction. But Ernie is not a coat hook. Ernie is a large, framed Simmental x steer who already weighed in at close to 1400lbs at the end of February, which will provide plenty of top-quality beef to give a splendid eating experience for you and your family. I’d love to see you at our show where you can see Ernie for yourself.

Isabelle Brink

Hi, my name is Isabelle Brink. I am in grade 4 and my 2nd year in 4-H. I enjoy gymnastics and skating. My steer is named Tank and he is a Hereford cross and I bet he will make a great steak.

Kora Kuechler

I’m Kora, a senior member of the Cremona 4-H Club who has been lucky enough to be part of this great program for 8 years now! This year my market steer project is a black Angus steer I call Mikey. He should finish around 1300lbs and will make a gnarly steak for your plate! Hope to see you at our show and sale!

Kyla Rohleder

Hello buyers! My name is Kyla Rohleder and this is my seventh year in the Cremona 4-H Club. Along with taking on the role of the Vice President this year, I also decided to do the heifer project, however this isn’t her, this is my steer, Clyde. Clyde is a beautiful Simmental x steer with an ability to pack on some serious pounds, despite his smaller frame. At the beginning of this 4-H year Clyde had weighed in at 796lbs and at the rate that he is growing could range anywhere between 1550lbs and 1650lbs by the time buyers are looking for a freezer pet. I think Clyde would be a beautiful addition to your freezer and I would greatly appreciate it if you came to our show in May and supported me along with the rest of the Cremona 4-H Club!

Lane Kuechler

My name is Lane Kuechler. This is my 5th year in 4-H. I am 14 years old and attend grade eight at Westbrook school. My steer is an Angus/Simmental cross and weighed in at 860 and weighed 1162 at the end of February. He is being fed a ration of barley as well as oats and is also getting a bit of silage each day. Hope to see you at our annual show and sale and do consider purchasing my steer!

Natalie Brink

Hi my Natalie Brink and this is my 8th year in 4-H. This year I have a steer named Chad and I am very proud of his progress. Outside of 4-H I play basketball, piano, badminton, enjoy hunting, and love reading. Chad is a Simmental and he was easy to train as he has a very laid back demeanor. I hope you love him as much as me and I hope to see everyone at the show and sale.

Shelby Oldale

Hello, My name is Shelby Oldale. I am in grade 11, I have been in 4-H for 5 years. I enjoy baking, science, riding horses and spending time with my family and my animals. I am the 2024 Pete Knight Rodeo Princess. My favourite part of 4-H is getting to be surrounded by the agricultural industry and getting to mentor younger 4-H members. My steer’s this year is Mater. Yep, like Tow-Mater from Disney’s Cars (I name all my animals after Disney movie characters). He is super sweet and loves getting scratches. Mater is fed a homemade mix of barley and beef ration, with a mixed grass hay. Mater was grown without the use of growth hormones. This is my second time doing a steer project. I am so proud of how far I have come and how much I have learned. I plan on using any 4-H steer money profits to help pay for my future plans of attending medical school. Thank you for supporting me and my fellow 4-H members.

Simon Keitel

Hello my name is Simon Keitel. I am 14 years old. This is my fifth year in 4-H and I am in grade 8. In my free time I like to dirt bike, white water kayak, and snowboard. This is my steer Aston. He is a Simmental cross. I picked him because he was a calm yet big, nice steer. This is my second year with a market steer, and I am glad to have a little more confidence (and strength) than with my first steer. Thanks for coming and supporting 4-H. I would love to chat with you about Aston and my year.

Eden Ellithorpe

Hello my name is Eden Ellithorpe and this is my 3rd year in 4-H. My projects for this year are market beef and heifer. My steer’s name is Gingersnap! Gingersnap is a Charolais, Simmental, Angus cross. This is ideal for a steer, combining the body mass of a Charolais, the exceptional gains Simmentals are known for, and the perfect marbling of an Angus. Gingersnap is the definition of a redhead. He is very spicy. Partnered with my steer is my heifer named Chili, a Simmental cross. She is very special to me because she is so kind and loves food. Activities I like to do outside of 4-H are softball, hunting, barrel racing and badminton. Hope to see lots of buyers at this years’ show.

Kyver Hannah

Hi, my name is Kyver Hannah, and I grew up on my family’s farm just east of Didsbury. This is my first year as a junior in the Prairie Partners Multi 4-H club, and I’m super excited about my projects this year. My steer, George, is a purebred Red Angus, and I picked him out myself. He’s been a great project so far, and I’ve spent a lot of time taking George in and out of the barn every day to make sure he’s calm and ready for the show and sale. He’s a bit of a diva—he likes to take his time when we go in and out, and sometimes I think he believes he’s the star of the show already! But don’t worry, I’ve made sure he knows who’s really in charge. I look forward to seeing you all at the show and sale on May 20th, 2025, in Carstairs at the arena. I’m sure George and I will put on quite the performance (hopefully without him taking all the spotlight)! See you there!

Jace Ziegler

Hi, my name is Jace Ziegler and I am 10 yrs old. I am a member of the Prairie Partners 4H multi club. This is my first year in 4H beef and my steer’s name is Blaze. I chose Blaze from my family’s 2024 calf crop, he is a Simmental/Gelbvieh steer, and he likes to eat! I give him plenty of rolled barley and as much silage as he likes, along with plenty of back scratches! We would sure like to see you at our sale. Come find us and I will introduce you to your new steer!

Rhett Ziegler

Hi, my name is Rhett Ziegler and I am 10 yrs old. This is my first year as a junior in Prairie Partners 4-H beef. I chose a Simmental/Angus steer born on my family’s farm. I named him FudgeeO because of his dark nose and eyes. FudgeeO loves getting his neck scratched and he gets plenty of silage and rolled barley twice a day. FudgeeO wants you to come to the sale and so do I! We hope to see you there!

Payton Walroth

Hi, I’m Payton Walroth and I am 12 years old. I am a member of the Prairie Partners 4-H club. This is my 1st year in Beef 4-H and my steers name is Bruno. I chose Bruno from my family’s 2024 calf production. He is a Black Angus, Charolais cross. He loves to eat lots! I feed him lots of 4-H ration and give him lots of shoulder scratches. We would sure like to see you at our sale! Come find me and I will introduce you to my steer Bruno!

Joni Page

My name is Joni Page and this is my steer Moose! I am in my fourth year of 4-H, and I have had steers and heifers each year. Moose has been a lot of fun. He is a Red Angus steer and he was my top pick of our home raised steer calves last year. I actually got to help foster him onto a new mom when he was a baby! I hope you can join us for our Show and Sale on May 19 and 20. We have a great young club!

Grady Page

My name is Grady Page, and my steer is named King. King is my third steer project, and he has been my favorite so far. He has been so quiet and easy going, and he has been nice for me to work with. King is a Red Angus Hereford X steer. His mom is one of my favorites, and I picked a steer from her last year as well. King will be a great finished steer! Come and meet us on Sale day, and I will introduce you!

Morgan Page

I am Morgan Page and this is my first year in 4H! My steer’s name is Churro. Churro was my favorite calf in the fall, because he was so gentle and quiet. 4-H so far this year has been great! I love meetings with my friends, and Public Speaking was also really fun. I am really proud of Churro and I love learning how to work with him and my heifer, Miss Deal. I would love to talk to you on sale day. Come and find me and Churro on May 20!

Adrienne Stanley-Jones

Hi, my name is Adrienne Stanley-Jones. This is my market lamb, Hakuna Matata (Mat for short). He is Charollais, Dorset x Southdown and he would a make an excellent BBQ supper this summer. Thank you to the Liang family for purchasing my last year’s market lamb and to everyone who comes out to support the 4-H community.

Brennan Ostermeier

My name is Brennan Ostermeier and this is my 5th year in 4-H. This year I am showing a flock consisting of 6 homegrown breeding stock sheep, a market steer and my market lamb Potato. I had started by using the sale of my first 4-H lamb to purchase two bred ewes and have grown my own home flock to over 20 sheep. Potato is a homegrown market lamb from my own personal flock, I have carefully selected my flocks’ genetics to promote F1 crosses, crossing a heavy muscled Charollais ram with large framed Rambouillet ewe’s. This results in large, well muscled lambs with a superior carcass. A great addition to anyone’s freezer! I welcome anyone to come out and see my flock check out my breeding program, and I appreciate all the support for our Show and Sale! Hope to see you there!

Callahan Nickel

Hi, my name is Callahan, and this is my second year in 4-H but first year with a market lamb. My market lamb’s name is Nibbles, and she is a Suffolk cross. Marv is always bouncing around, looking for trouble, while Kevin just likes to eat and relax. They’re a funny pair – one’s always on the go, and the other is just chilling. I’m really looking forward to seeing you at the Carstairs Steer & Lamb Show & Sale on May 20, 2025. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out anytime. Aleah Farquharson

My name is Aleah Farquharson and I am 11 years old. This is Nibs, my first ever market lamb. I’ve worked hard to care for my lamb — feeding, grooming, and making sure she has everything she needs to thrive. Along the way, I’ve learned so much about responsibility and building trust with animals, and it’s been an unforgettable experience. I’m really proud of all the effort I’ve put in, and I’m excited to offer my lamb to a buyer who values the hard work that goes into raising it. Thank you for supporting my 4-H journey and helping me achieve my goals!

Amelia Farquharson

Hello! My name is Amelia Farquharson, and I’m 12 years old. I’m thrilled to introduce my market lamb, Mojito. Mojito is a Suffolk, and I’ve worked hard to raise him with care and dedication. Ayden Baker

Welcome to the Carstairs and District 4-H Show and Sale! I’m Ayden Baker, an intermediate member with the Cremona 4-H Club. Today, I’d like to introduce you to Nessie, my 4-H Market Lamb project. Nancy, a southdown ewe lamb, is a home raised ewe, who was 18.2 kg at our Weigh In Day on March 8, 2025. I plan to have Nancy at a sale weight of 41 kg, which I believe is a suitable goal for a lighter lamb, but still brings her to a competitive place at the show. Nancy is sired by Klug Limestone 21F-61, a southdown tup from America, while her dam is a Pureblood southdown ewe, who is my first ever southdown ewe. Nancy is a very stout fronted ewe, with a very powerful body in terms of rib shape and depth of body, yet she retains a level of elegance and style. Nancy and I hope to see you at Show and Sale!

Beckett Arthur

My name is Beckett Arthur. I’m 14 years old and this is my 2nd year in 4-H. This year I’m participating in the market lamb and metal working projects. My lambs name is Porkchop. He was born January 16 and he’s a Suffolk. He’s a very nice lamb but he’s sometimes full of beans. Some things I like to do out side of 4-H are skiing, hunting, and rodeo.

Charlotte Keitel

Hey there, I’m Charlotte Keitel. This is my 7th year with the Cremona 4-H Club where I am Secretary and a senior member. I have a market steer and lamb, ewe lamb, mature ewe, and carcass lamb. Today, I would be pleased to introduce you to my market lamb, Albie! Albie is a homegrown Suffolk lamb who I have fed whole barley and supplement with pasture grass and sainfoin hay. He has been a very curious little guy who, from the day he was born, would sniff around your ankles and frolic around the pen to and from me and his mama. I’m excited for this year with Albie and I can’t wait to have a homegrown lamb in the show ring! I hope to see you at the Show ‘n Sale. I would be pleased to chat with you all about my projects and about 4-H in general. You can find me somewhere around Albie or my market steer, West.

At birth he weighed 18 lbs and his twin brother weighed 17lbs. Nacho is getting lamb grower, alfalfa pellets, barley, corn, and alfalfa hay. I love to go on walks with Nacho and we are excited for the coming 4-H events. Thank you for reading and considering buying my 2025 market lamb, Nacho.

CREMONA 4-H LAMBS

Lexton Arthur

My name is Lexton Arthur and this is my 2nd year in 4-H. My lamb’s name is Lambchop. His birthday is on January 16. He’s a Suffolk breed, and he likes romantic dinners and long walks on the beach. The money I earn will go towards new skis and better halters. Some things I like to do are skiing, biking, and of course 4-H.

Lorelei Baker

Hello, I’m Lorelei Baker and this is my fourth year in the Cremona 4-H club. I am twelve years old, in grade seven and I am homeschooled. I participate in ewe lamb, yearling ewe, mature ewe, market lamb and judging projects through 4-H. Eventually, I will to talk my Dad into letting me also participate in showing dairy cattle. I want to have a dairy farm of my own when I grow up, alongside my purebred sheep flock! Let me introduce you to my market lamb for 2025, Norrine. Norrine is a Hampshire ewe lamb. She is a very skeletally extended ewe with a very feminine head and neck. Norrine has a strong top line and is a very bold ribbed ewe. She has a very smooth shoulder and an ideal leg set to her. Overall, Norrine is a very correct ewe and even has a bit of an attitude. She is going to be fun to work with because of her sassy personality. I believe Norrine will make a great breeding ewe as she matures and would be a benefit to any flock. I plan to show Norrine at 4-H on Parade at the Calgary Stampede grounds from the end of May to the first week of June. I hope to see you at the Carstairs and District 4-H Show and Sale, May 20th, 2025.

My market lamb this year is Norm from the Disney movie Norm of the North (I name all my animals after Disney movie characters). He is home grown from one of my retired 4-H ewes and he has been an amazing project animal to raise. He is fed a homemade mix of barley, alfalfa pellets, corn, lamb grower ration, and alfalfa hay. I plan on using any 4-H lamb money profits to help pay for my future plans of attending medical school. Thank you for supporting me and my fellow 4-H members.
