HelloFriends, Neighbors and Fellow Cattlemen. Welcome to the 6th annual Anchor 1 Angus bull sale. It’s hard to believe it was only 7 years ago, in the midst of the disastrous BSE years, that Kyle decided he would like to farm for a living, and we decided to convert our 450 head commercial cow herd into a 400 plus head registered Red Angus herd. We bought some great cows to start with and through a rigorous combination of careful replacement selections, from our heifer pen, and extensive culling (I think Kyle would cull his own mother just for singing a little off key – if she was a Red cow), we truly believe we finally have our herd of 350 exceptional red cows with 70 outstanding replacements to bring into the herd this year. We do, and always will, stand by our belief that the foundation of every good herd sire is a great momma. We are so proud of the bulls we have on offer in the spring’s sale and guarantee, without question, that you will be happy with any one of the bulls you take home for your cows here today. Forecasts from all over suggest that there is no way we can build our herds fast enough to meet the expected beef demands as far out as 2020 so it does look like maybe we are finally in the driver’s seat – and any one of these guys will leave you with a great set of replacement females to expand your herd. As always, the bulls are fed a fairly high roughage ration so they are ready to hit the grass without the “melt down” that we have seen on a lot of heavier fed bulls that we have purchased in the past. Several times we have had customers contact us with stories of heavier fed bulls, they have purchased elsewhere (usually for more money), weighing up to 200 pounds more in the spring coming home in the fall weighing 200 pounds less - and our 99% plus customer satisfaction rate helps us believe we are doing something right. We especially want to, once again, thank all of our past customers for their continued support, all those folks who call us just to say how happy they are with our bulls, and all of those who have recommended us to neighbors and friends as a good place to purchase their future herd sires. We love every part of this hectic business but the support and encouragement we receive from all of you is probably the best part of all. Just one last note before I bid you all adieu (pretty fancy word for a cattleman, I thought), this past winter we decided to expand our purebred operation to include Black Angus cows as well. We do have a couple of huge black commercial herds, in our local area, who approached us about selling black bulls and we are extremely excited about the 34 new black females we calved out this spring. The cows and calves are down at the same yard, where the yearling bulls will be viewed on sale day, so please fell free to check them out as many of those young fellows will be on offer in next years sale and you can see the kind of females that are raising them. In an effort to make things as easy as possible for us hosting the sale and to facilitate the viewing of the bulls without a full sale facility, we have decided to offer a Video Sale again this year. For the sale the video clip will play on the big screen as the bulls are sold. This sale format was very successfull last year and at other operations, and we feel this is the best way to keep stress low on the cattle. Basically, the only difference from a traditional bull sale is that the cattle will not physically walk through the sale ring. The bulls will be displayed at the bull farm just 1/2 mile away. This will allow you to view the bulls prior to the sale and then come up to the hall for lunch and the sale. If you have any questions about the sale format please give us a phone call.

Should a problem occur, barring physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. Phenom is easily one of the most consistent bulls that we have ever used at anchor 1. He stamps all of his calves much the same with a thick cherry red hair coat, excellent feet, style ability, and more hip and muscle shape than you will find in a red Angus bull anywhere. We could not ask anything more from 67Z’s dam 68R. She is phenotypically correct in every way and as consistent as they come. It truly does not seem to matter which bull we choose to mate her to in the spring she always ends up weaning a keeper in the fall. It all started in our first annual bull sale when her son one of our lead off bulls went to just down the road to our good friends and fellow pure bred breeders Gra-Tan Farms. I saw some of his calves on grass last summer and I was at their bull sale this spring and I am really happy with the job that he has done for their Red Angus program. Her calf on offer to you this year is no exception. 67Z is a very stylish phenom son with unlimited potential. He is definitely a bull that you could build a beautiful herd around.

He is extremely smooth moving and will surely cover lots of ground on the pasture. 137Z is a fairly stout and compact bull so we do not recommend that he be used on your heifers but he would work nicely on a set of young cows such as second calvers or a bit older.

4Z is a long bodied bull that is very similar in structure to the lot 1 bull. As a matter of fact for a good part of the winter it was actually hard to tell the 2 apart. 4Z carries many good traits as well. He has a handsome cherry red hair coat and a very solid set of feet and legs under him. His Dam 1126T is a very classy cow that consistently raises a functional calf every year. With just a 75lb birth weight and extra neck extension 4Z is a sure bet heifer bull.

Here is a very trendy bull with explosive performance numbers. 68Z’s dam is a moderate sized, great uddered third calver that has done a super job on her first two calves. As a first calf heifer 232W raised a Fancy heifer calf sired by Ironman 71U that was selected for Red Roundup 2012 where she sold to Royal Valley Cattle Company. And then as a second calver she was right on the money again with this handsome stud. 68Z is a very complete calf with tons of hair and on paper he is rich with potential. Even with his 88 lbs. birth weight I would not be scared to use him on heifers as he is built very smooth.

Here is a well-balanced, eye catching In Charge son with a little more power behind him. It is very rare for us to see an In Charge calf weighing over 90lbs at birth but in this guy’s case it would have a lot to do with his dam’s contribution. 133U is a larger framed, big bodied cow with a striking cherry red color and beautiful udder structure. We would not recommend that 274Z be used on heifers but for those of you who like your cows a little bit bigger in frame size and shape than this guy would work well for you.

I find it very hard to criticize 26Z on his overall appearance. He is the right color that a red Angus should be, he has lots of shape, length and volume to him, he has an excellent scrotum and all of this is supported by a very correct big black set of feet. However good looks isn’t everything they have to have a decent cow behind them and this guy’s mother is well like her son hard to flaw in any aspect of her makeup and she raises us a pretty darn good calf every year as well.

Explosive performance numbers on this young, well rounded, nice made hitch son that ranked second overall in gain from birth to weaning. Not only is his Black/Red carrier dam easy on the eyes but she is a steady, consistent producer of functional cattle that are made right. We really think highly of this bull.

We at Anchor 1 Angus would like to thank the outstanding people who have helped us out greatly over the past year. We would like to start by saying a huge thank you to our hard working, reliable full time employee Tim. Tim is great with the cattle but above that he is also a fantastic mechanic and a jack of all trades. We notice many efficient little jobs getting done around the farm in Tim’s spare time such as putting a simple door handle on the barn door and putting up new yard lights. What a nice treat it was to be able to see the cows at night when we were working with them this year (laugh out loud). Thanks for everything that you do Tim. Next we would like to thank our son in law/ brother in law Shane who is a terrific worker and a valuable helper at calving time as well as throughout the year. Very often Shane gets home late from his full time job and still stops by the farm on his way home to see if he can lend a hand. We know now from experience that the offspring of our true beauty top end cows from our favoured cow families will always shine at the front end of our herd time and time again no matter who we decide to mate them to. 65U is one of our most cherished Duke daughters and she is flawless in appearance. Already at her young age she is right at the top of our cow herd and her dam was 15 years old when we weaned the last calf off of her. Crossing Ironman with all of these gorgeous Duke Daughters and Hi Ho daughters sure had a fantastic outcome. 98z is a very showy, well rounded bull with fantastic shape to him. His dam is a very pretty duke daughter that has longevity to burn as her 15 year old dam 228H calved again this year in the first cycle. With both Duke and Ironman in this pedigree, even with an 89lbs birth weight I would not be one bit scared to use this handsome fellow on heifers.

Here we have the first of our Go Long calves and what a sight he is. Built like a tank this guy is long bodied, extremely thick made and solid. 28z took a pretty great picture for the catalogue but until you actually see him in real life you cannot fully appreciate his depth of body and his width across his top. Bar-E-L X-Cel 17X- X-Cel was a bull that we bought from Bar- E-L Angus 2 years ago. We selected him for his tremendous style and calving ease and above all because we just really wanted to bred some BAR-E-L genetics into our herd and more specifically we were interested in a descendant of the highly respected Ribeye 103R bull. After getting some guidance from Dave and doing a little homework ourselves we ended up nabbing this guy. With his first set of very stylish, uniform calves on the ground now it makes us sad to say that we unfortunately lost him last winter. Although he no longer walks the ground at Anchor 1 his genetics will live on as we retained 5 or 6 daughters into our herd and his 4 sons that we are offering to you are structurally sound, functional and easy on the eyes.

The only year that X-cel 17X bred cows for us he started out with 22 heifers for 6 weeks or 2 cycles and then we pulled him outta there and put him right into our AI pen to clean up our AI bred cows that is how much confidence we had in this young herd sire. 300Zs dam 56T is right off the top of our cow herd and she has been noticed and admired by many visitors. She is a beautiful, deep bodied, structurally correct cow that produces functional calves for us. 300Z is a very complete bull and we really like the way he is put together.

Full Scale 35U- Full Scale is by far the easiest keeping bull that we have ha ever owned. It does not seem to matter what time of the year it is or whether he is on feed or pasture he is always in show room shape. With that being said often feet can be an issue on heavier bulls as they get older but we can honestly say that right now at 5 years old his feet have never been touched and they are as solid and sound as the day we bought him. Full scales sons are very uniform again as a group this year and they offer excellent hair and style ability as well as unlimited maternal qualities.

59Z is an absolute rip of a calf. He is our heaviest bull in the entire pen this year and he ranked 1st in gain on feed. You have to see this guy in real life to get a full sense of appreciation for his length of body, outstanding muscle shape and body mass. He is an attractive deep red color and also structurally correct on a great set of feet. This guy’s dam 36N is a long bodied feminine cow that knocks it out of the park every year. We first noticed 36N’s impressive capability the first year that we owned her when we weaned off her stellar bull calf In Charge 29U that still stands proud today at the front of our herd bull pen. Here is an absolute tank of a bull that very closely resembles the look of his sire and our high selling yearling bull from our first annual bull sale Red Anchor 1 Hitch 38T. We decided to hold 80Y back from the sale as a yearling because we had visions of using him in our own herd as a 2 year old. We really admire every aspect of this bull and he continues to impresses us more every day but we finally came to the conclusion that our herd is just too closely related to him so we do not really have a place for him in our herd bull pen at this time. We purchased his dam from Get A Long Stock Farms through the Hay Shaker sale in the summer of 2008. She is a very flesh, nice uddered, heavy milking cow with a super friendly disposition. TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautionedto pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.
