LTD

Welcome to the 6th Annual Rancher’s Select Bull Sale; hard to believe we’re at number six already but time flies! Having said that, this is a big year for our family and operation being registered breeders for 50 years! Grandpa started with Herefords in the late 50’s, and dad pulled the original Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) number of 813 in 1975, which we still hold today. He started his first round of Simmental semen with Beat 441 on those Herefords to register the first half bloods at that time – CSV 1F & CSV 4F. That is where the program started; they were great crossbreds and started building the program from there with bred & purchased females, herd bulls as well as a mix of A.I sires.

The first bulls to sell were sold in Ste. Rose and at the Brandon Bull Sale back in those days as well as by private treaty. We are very proud to hold such an early CSA number as well as having four generations of cattle producers in the family. The 4th generation has started into their own Simmental and Angus herds with the youngest of the grandkids being 5 years old. A lot has changed in 50 years as most will know. One thing has not changed for us at Crest View; we strive to produce easy doing, versatile cattle that can function for any operation with our 150 head cow herd. Our papered cattle run along side our commercials with no special treatment which ensures the functional ones stick around.

Our bulls this year are as per usual a mix of top A.I genetics as well as a good sampling of bulls off our walking herd sires who have done us well. There is a mix of red, black and baldy performance and calving ease bulls, something for everyone. The bulls are all heavy hair coated and slow grown on a 14% bull developer pellet and free choice hay. As well they are on a full herd health Bovishield Gold program with Blackleg, Ivomec & Vitolice treatments. Feel free to contact us prior to sale time as to any questions you may have about our offering. Some test results are pending for colour, polled & diluter tests. Many of these bulls you will notice have been sire verified as well with their 100K test.

We look forward to visiting you all come sale day. If for some reason you can’t make it to the sale we hope you can join us on DLMS or don’t hesitate to call any one of the professional staff of the Bohrson group regarding your needs. These guys have seen the bulls and know the operation and will do their best to assist you.

Stay tuned for test results as well as bull videos closer to sale time.

lot 1 CREST’S VIEW MOUNTAIN 112L

A later born April coming 2-year-old we think quite highly of. Backed by a very powerful cow family; maternal is huge here. Many, many of our sale bulls have come out of this pedigree. The 36C cow is a big tanky female that we admire enough that she is on the flush list. Sired by our Mountain walking bull, he is stacked with reputable genetics. This guy we held back to clean up in our own heifer pen this past spring; with a BW of 84 and CE of 13.5 he is the perfect candidate to cover some heifers and in numbers! Be sure to analyze this fella for his smoothness as well as length and capacity.

Here’s an eye catcher! A standout around here since he hit the ground. In my mind you’ll be hard pressed to find a baldy bull that puts in all together like this. A nice mix of genetics on him with the likes of Kershaw and SRS Right On on the dam side. He is out of a top producing, fertile female that has proved herself time and time again, rebreeding upfront to AI and kicking out the good ones. She’s a long, deep, big volume female with a picture perfect udder. He has a 10.4 CE and don’t let his unassisted BW scare you as he is out of a big cow and you must analyze his nice smooth shoulder and clean front. We don’t fudge our numbers around here so he is what he is, and that’s ok; he is very angular, yet maintains lots of the top, hip and guts. Having all those qualities yet moving like a cat on a nice square sound set of feet and legs. Mark this money stripe bull, I know you’ll like him too! 100K, Homo Polled and Homo Black test pending. ULTRA

lot 3 CREST’S VIEW BENTLEY 26M

Quite a cool bull here in my mind! Pedigree stacked with the likes of Bentley & Absolute. This fella is a chunk; long bodied, as soggy and loose hided as you will find with piles of middle. This guy moves out like a cat on a great set of feet and legs. He has the markings to put that chrome on your upcoming calf crop. His mother is one of the top producing black baldy cows in the heard. She is a no fault, bid volume, very angular female that holds a picture perfect udder and milks like crazy. A very easy going kind of bull that is very docile. This guy is going to put pounds on his offspring as well as add you that sought after touch of white to bring your calves to the top of the market. 100K, Homo Black and Homo Polled test pending.

If you are looking for a bull to add some frame work to your calves this is the guy for you. A Dimension bull with just that bit bigger frame score; also possessing a lot of length of body. He has always been first to come up to you in the pen with a very quiet demeanor. Out of one of our top producing, no fault Cobra daughters; going back to the highly maternal Paris cow family. Lots of milk and picture perfect udders run deep in this pedigree. Whether you’re looking to weight up some steers or save a pen of top notch replacement heifers; this guy will get that accomplished. 100K, Homo Black and Homo Polled test pending.

Another nice Dimension/ Cobra mix of performance & calving ease genetics here. This fella has a pretty nice maternal side to him with the likes of Shear Force back to one of our original long running Mar Mac 3Y Club King cows that we just retired this past calving year at the age of 14! So longevity runs deep in this pedigree. Big maternal here as well with lots of in herd daughters with great udders. A nice small headed, clean fronted bull with ample thickness and body to him. Sporting an 84lb BW, his calves should come easy. 100K, Homo Black and Homo Polled test pending.

CREST’S VIEW STYLE 20M

SIRE: LFE STYLE 363B

Thick, deep and chunky best describe this bull! You’ll be hard pressed to find a black bull that is this deep with this much volume & barrel. You have to notice he was raised by a first calf heifer; which I would say did a whale of a job for her first time out. These Style calves really have come easy for us yet maintain very good growth from birth to weaning with lots of substance to them. His black baldy mother is sired by our Hercules bull and this first round of heifers are really shaping up to be awesome cows. She goes back to a highly productive Doomsday cow we had purchased from the Downey’s a few years back as a bred out of the Keystone Konnection Sale. 100K, Homo Black and Homo Polled test pending.

Eye catcher! This guy will catch your attention sale day with a very cool blaze on his face. Sired by our consistent producing Cobra sire, this mix just works on the Prairie Wind 85G cow. We just sold a full sister who was quite the heifer too, to Peters Simmentals in Saskatchewan in the last Keystone Konnection Sale. If you are looking for a pedigree that entails numerous baldies and blazes this is your ticket. The Cobra baldy bull on the top side back to the very powerful impressive baldy JDF Honky Tonk bull on the cow side. The hair and the hip on this calf is like no other. Look closely; pretty neat bull here walking out on a very good set of feet and legs. 100K, Homo Black and Homo Polled test pending.

CREST’S VIEW 31M

A pen favourite in the red division. Nice clean fronted bull with ample thickness, depth and length of body. He is out of the probably top red cow in the herd in my mind. She is very fertile, usually catching first service A.I or in this case natural to the Mountain bull. This pairing; being that the dam is out of our great Centerfire bull has a nice mix of calving ease yet performance. If udder quality is on your mind for replacements you won’t beat this cows structure and productivity! The 23E cow is born to be a bull maker; she has mothered top of the pen bull calves into 5 of the 6 Rancher’s Select Sales. Her track record is good; so if consistency is what you’re looking for have this guy marked high on your list!

An eye appealing yet thick red bull here. Out of our old faithful 340A cow; always a producer! This will be her third bull through this sale thus far as well as a bred through the Keystone Sale this fall to Clarke Family Farms. She’s moderate, yet thick with a great udder. Lots of good genetics here tracing back to Wheatland Red Teddy. A bull that came into the world at a nice 92 lbs and sports a 12.2 CE. I’d faithfully put him in with a pen of my heifers if I was looking for calving ease but yet adding thickness and productivity. 100K, Diluter and Polled tests pending.

If you want cherry red, look no further; this guy is as dark as you will find with a trace of black in his hair. He is out of the impressive Super Elite bull we were lucky enough to acquire some semen on; I will be using more! The two half brothers we have in the sale are clean fronted but yet have lots of substance and grow to them. We unfortunately had lost the amazing Centerfire bull who left us with a lot of consistent offspring. He was a Super Duty as well as Super Elite; bulls so similar in type we had to use him as we knew what kind of results we’d get. His dam is a very moderate yet thick Capone daughter again with a very nice set udder. She as well is dark cherry red and ranks in the top 10% of our red cows. This is her 3rd bull that’s made it into the Rancher’s Select Sale. His calves should come easy yet grow. 100k, Diluter and Homo Polled tests pending.

A dark cherry red baldy bull that carries the consistency of meat, muscle and thickness of his brother the 28M bull in the sale. A bull that puts it all together just as his sire; growth will be an attribute to his calves. This guys mother is no slouch in the herd at 15-years-old and still in the program. A very deep, big volume female with a blaze face that supports a productive and well balanced udder for her age. As well the 58X cow still strides out across the pasture on a great set of feet and legs. Looking for years of productivity; here’s your guy, proof here is a testament! 100K, Diluter and Homo Polled tests pending.

Our one and only Copperhead bull in the sale this year. We were to have a pair again for you to analyze but had to pull the second just prior to catalog time due to injury. If you remember the high selling pair we brought last year they were very consistent in type as were these guys. We are quite impressed with the birth to yearling weights on these Copperheads. Bulls that just hit the ground and pack on the pounds. We like the heavy crop of dark hair they sport as well as the added length yet still maintain balance and thickness alike. The Copperheads seem to have a nice head and front end structure on them as well. For the first time out his dam; a dark red more powerful heifer has done quite the job. The Centerfire daughters make awesome cows. This pairing just works! Power & performance runs deep in this guys jeans. Check out his numbers. 100K, Diluter and Homo Polled tests pending.

Very maternal again going back to our matron KOB 3Y cow who you will see I’ve talked about with the 296M bull. She was in herd production 14 years with no issues. 92 lb BW and a 10.7 CE. A bull you can compare consistently in type with the 322M bull as his grand dam is 322’s mother. A little different mating of genetics but a lot similar in type and kind. A bit of a fullblood mix up top on this guy mated with the likes of our black baldy Hercules bull. His sires mother is a Sunrise Pillar sired cow who I thought was quite a specimen of a black bull as well, with lots of power and performance for a calving ease bull. With the likes of Kaiser, Hercules, Cobra and Pillar all being calving ease bulls it’s no wonder this guy falls right in suit! With a 72 lb BW out of a first calf heifer and a 12.1 CE; I’d call him eligible for the heifer pen. A good bull for the calves to come easy and put a shot of chrome on the at the same time. 100K, Diluter and Homo Polled tests pending.

His dam the ol Topsy 43Z cow left us a great amount of sale worthy bulls and females as well as retained. She was about as big of volume of a red cow as we’ve had on the place. Top Guns were great females for us and abundant milkers. She produced for us up until last year at the ripe age of 12-years-old. Here’s a bull with a little genetic throwback. I like the excitement of using some of these older genetics back on some of our bred down red purebred cows. I believe we need to add a little framework and milk back into these cattle; what the breed was built on. So I pulled some Arnold’s Return 200B out for this highly productive ‘H’ cow. She raised a bull through this sale a couple years ago and we sold quite a Hercules black baldy bred off her at the Keystone this fall to Maplehurst Farms. 88 lb BW with a calving ease sire. 100K testing pending.

RKT Simmentals

Welcome to the sixth annual Ranchers Select Simmental Bull Sale. Its exciting times in the cattle business! We have seen new high prices over the past year on all classes of cattle. Quality calves are the key to maximise profit. I feel the bulls we are offering this year will produce that quality. This maybe the most consistent group we have brought to this sale. RFS Heavy Hitter H45, RF Caliber 014G, Erixon Asset 91J and CKCC LD Dimension 8965 are the four new A.I. sire groups and are loaded with high end individuals. The Striker sons offer calving ease and thickness with some extra age options. There are some very good low birth weight heifer bulls as well. I encourage you to come view the bulls here at the farm or in Neepawa the two days preceding the sale. Feel free to call me anytime to discuss them as well. We will have videos on our website www. rktsimmentals.ca in February. Nothing is better than being at the sale and I look forward to visiting with you then, if not it will be broadcast on DLMS. I’d like to thank Donovan Hickson for all of his help getting the bulls ready again this year. Lastly, I’d like to thank John Gillan for being a part of this sale for the last five years. John is one of the most easy-going, well-liked people in this business. The huge crowd at his strong dispersal sale in November was evidence of that.
