Pam’s Snippets Well it’s almost over, the reality will set in soon after the election results are released. My Opinion, focus on what’s going on in our own backyard and we’ll be fine. The Chamber’s Government Interest Committee (GIC) & the Douglas County Business Alliance (DCBA) are composed of very talented and dedicated business professionals who will continue to stay connected with our elected officials, government staff and represent our local business and economic interests. Castle Rock is Thriving—yesterday Castle Rock was recognized in the Colorado Real Estate Journal outlining our new commercial development stating that we’ve skillfully invested in the right infrastructure and tools to ensure the community is successful for the long haul. Redevelopment projects in downtown will bring residential living with the new mixed use Riverwalk and Mercantile Commons developments will create new vibrancy in our downtown area. In addition, Arapahoe Community College, Colorado State University and Douglas County School District are under contract to create a collaboration Higher Education Campus in The Meadows next door to Castle Rock Adventist Hospital and will focus their programing on health care, information technology and business entrepreneurship. Many other projects are detailed See full article. Congrats to our EDC partners on work well done! Our Colorado economy is on solid footing and on tract to add 70,000 new jobs in 2016 according to economist, Gary Horvath. • DIA is on track to set new traffic records. • Construction is directly responsible for almost 18% of the job gains this year. • Colorado has the 8th lowest unemployment rate for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. • Colorado oil production is above 2014 levels, despite significant layoffs. • Used car sales are 9.3% higher than last year. Are you trying to navigate through traffic? Douglas County can help you out with their new online tool to help you navigate cone zone traffic congestion throughout the County and you can access it from your smartphone or desktop. Check it out. This portal is also a great resource to gather data to do business. I wish you and your family a most joyous and safe holiday season. Remember, Douglas County Gives Day is on Dec 6th, give your financial support to our community non-profits that give so much back to us all. Leadership History Day – October 5, 2016
Host Sponsors: Highlands Ranch Metro District/Highlands Ranch Mansion, Douglas County, Walt Kowalski/BreakThroughs, Inc. and Kneaders Castle Rock. The Leadership Douglas County (LDC) Class of 2017 participated in their first monthly session on October 5, with an introduction to early Douglas County History at the Highlands Ranch Mansion with Susie Appleby and Shaun Boyd (Douglas County Libraries). This was followed by a step back in time to the historic village of Louviers, where Douglas County Division of Open Space and Natural Resources Director Cheryl Matthews encouraged the class to explore and learn more about the nearly 49,000 acres of protected open space land in the County. Walt Kowalski of BreakThroughs, Inc. led the professional skill development session in the afternoon, using the DISC survey for personality styles, to provide the class with a communication tool in preparation for their class project. Every year, each class takes on a significant project to channel what they’re learning and to strengthen the community through their service, knowledge and networking efforts. If you are interested in learning more about Leadership Douglas County and would like to preview the program by attending a class day, please let us know! Agendas are posted one week prior to each class, which meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Established by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce in 1999, Leadership Douglas County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, program designed to broaden participant knowledge of the community while enhancing leadership skills, to increase the strength and effectiveness of our community leaders. Classes start in the fall each year.
