CEO FOCUS with Pam Ridler, President & CEO Just Breathe I’m probably like you, make a list of all the things I want to get accomplished in a day, week or in 2018 and then check the accom‐ plishments off the list. And now onto the next item on the list. How‐ ever, I also know that I need to take a breath, review, evaluate and don’t forget to celebrate my Teams accomplishments and see what we can do better with those things that have challenged us through‐ out the previous year. The Chamber Board of Directors, other volunteer leadership and staff will be doing that exact thing at the end of January by reviewing and strategizing on short and long‐term goals and use strategic methods to move the Chamber organization and our business com‐ munity forward always looking for continual improvement. Under the leadership of our chairman, Bernie Greenberg we have made some major leaps for long and short‐term return on our invest‐ ments. A newly created Castle Rock Chamber Foundation has come to fruition with the purpose to assist us in charitable giving focused to help us raise funding needed to expand and improve programs such as workforce development‐Talent Pipeline DC, Leadership Douglas County, business development programming, signature events and maintaining our historic building, the Victoria House. Another part of our 2017 business plan focused on the Castle Rock Chamber becoming nationally accredited by the US Chamber of Commerce which defines high standards of excellence in the Cham‐ ber industry. The board and staff completed our submission at the end of December and will be awaiting the outcome of this lengthy process which creates measurement achievement models to assist in the upgrading and improvement of our programming. Our Chamber exists for the success of your business. It’s only through the actions and support of our members that our Chamber has been successful in the past and will continue to be successful in 2018. This year will bring plenty of excitement and challenges for all of us. I encourage you to be a part of the success of our business community and your chamber, contact us so that we can help con‐ nect you with a program, event or an area of interest to you.
Take Poli.cal Ac.on There Are Many Ways to Get Involved! The Chamber’s Government Interests Commi ee (GIC) provides our business community with a proac.ve voice and advocate regarding governmental issues; and promotes economic interests, which contributes to the quality of life of Castle Rock. This program facilitates communica.on and educa.on between the business community, local, and state governments. A variety of elected officials, concerned members and businesspeople meet to discuss and clarify issues that are affec.ng our community today, tomorrow and in the future. Quarterly Horizon Luncheons also offer an opportunity to make connec.ons with our community leaders. Each luncheon features guest speakers to help keep you up-to-date on the local community, business hot topics, statewide informa.on and much more.

BUILDING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP— Lisa Mixon, leadership facilitator from Credit Union of Colorado, and Lara Mooney, par!cipant from Douglas County, demonstrate the importance of clarity in project management via a peanut bu er and jelly exercise!
The LDC Class of 2018 spent December and January exploring opportuni.es for civic engagement and gaining insight into the factors that impact Douglas County economic development; and how transporta.on and master planning are key factors when considering the an.cipated growth within our community. Through tours, presenta.ons and expert panelists, par.cipants got a behind-the-scenes look at Colorado’s 18th judicial district court and saw first-hand how Charles Schwab runs its daily opera.ons as a financial services employment hub for over 4,000 individuals in the heart of Douglas county. The presenta ons from the panel on economic development were invaluable. What it is, how it works, and the foresight required in planning for a strong community were extremely insigh5ul. Photos from these recent classes can be viewed on the LDC Facebook page LDC par.cipants are receiving strong professional development training this year on building effec.ve teams, crea.ng a common vision, strategic planning and cataly.c leadership—skills that they can take back to their workplace to make them more effec.ve leaders and team members. Each class day revolves around a professional development session. In December, the topic was “Nego.a.on” with Ken Greenberg, Auctus Search Partners, LLC and Leadership & Organiza.ons Adjunct Faculty Member at University College-DU. He used the work of Kouzes and Posner to provide a founda.on for discovering “The art of mobilizing others to want to struggle with you toward a shared aspira.on.” In January, Lisa Mixon, PMO Manager, Credit Union of Colorado, walked the class through strategic steps for project management as they begin working on their class project. Considering LDC for yourself or referring a colleague? If you are interested in applying to Leadership Douglas County in 2018-2019 and would like to preview the program by a ending a class day, please let us know by calling 720-440-3726 and/or emailing info@leadershipdouglascounty.com.
