May 2017 Catalan Films & TV Print_ 9.disseny Design & layout_ Marta Vilches 2
It’s Cannes 2017 and Catalonia is, once again, present at the world’s leading film festival. After last year’s successes – with Timecode winning the Palme d’Or for best short film – this year we’re delighted and proud to have a short film at the “Semaine de la Critique”. Congratulations to Laura Ferrés and the producer Valérie Delpierre for the selection of The Disinherited. In our country, we continue to promote short films as a genre, and not only as a training ground for new directors. We’re also proud to present El sol del membrillo, by Victor Erice, a film restored by the Filmoteca de Catalunya. The feature will be screened in “Cannes Classics” 25 years after it won the “Prix du Jury” and the “Prix de la Critique”. These productions will be joined by other activities such as eight market screenings, the pitching of two Catalan projects at the sections “Annecy goes to Cannes” and “Frontieres goes to Cannes”; and the presence of almost 90 Catalan companies including producers, distributors, sales agents, broadcasters and festivals. Last but not least, this year we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the “Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya”. Together with them, we will be present at the “Fantastic Mixer” and some special events will be hosted. Congratulations to all of the above! We are extremely proud of our industry and we want to celebrate it with all of you. Catalonia is a country for film!
