Performing Arts Offerings
Music Production: Create original music, learn the art of songwriting, and develop recording techniques in a world-class recording studio.
Instrumental Music: Improvise in a jazz group, rehearse with a rock band, or fine-tune a classical piece in one of our 8 ensembles.
Theater Performance: Engage with a range of scenes and plays to enhance communication, take creative risks, and develop acting skills through year-round production opportunities.
Vocal Music: Students from all skill levels can develop their joy of singing, vocal techniques, and performance skills, while exploring the historical and cultural significance of their repertoire.
Dance: Experiment with styles like modern, lyrical, and hip hop, and discover the art of choreography from research to performance.
Theater Tech: Lead from behind-the-scenes while learning the art of lighting, sound, and stagecraft.

At Cate, you’ll explore the wide world of Visual and Performing Arts through formal, technical study and expressive, collaborative hands-on learning. Students create, perform, engage in critical analysis through abundant Academic and CoCurricular options. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with new forms of art and explore exciting disciplines you already love!
9th graders are introduced to a wide variety of artforms including studio art, photography, sculpture, ceramics, vocal music, instrumental music, theater, digital art, and dance. Throughout your time at Cate, you will have an opportunity to form meaningful relationships with one or more of those disciplines. Cate students work hard from a place of passion, genuine curiosity, expression, and for the love of the creative process itself.
Ceramics: Transform clay into everything from mugs to teapots, while exploring the harmony of function and decoration through your handcrafted pieces
Photography: Explore technical and conceptual photography using DSLR cameras, access to Adobe editing programs, and a new darkroom for developing prints from film.
Digital Art: Harness a range of digital tools and the power of code to creative innovative projects that live at the intersection of art and technology.
Studio Art: Enhance your creative skills, conceptual thinking, and critical analysis through diverse projects including drawing, painting, and 3D thinking.
