We are a charity that supports the valuable work of musicians who enrich so many lives through the power of cathedral music.

Since our foundation in 1956 (as the Friends of Cathedral Music), we have made a positive difference to the lives of many thousands of children, young people and adult musicians across the UK and Ireland. We seek innovative and sector-leading ways to support high quality musicianship in cathedrals and churches through our programmes, training, advocacy and research. Our vision is to create a vibrant choral music scene that champions excellence and provides opportunities for people from all walks of life to thrive and develop.

In 2024 we have invested over £500,000 in the sector, supporting 28 music departments, and enriching over 10,000 lives.

Supporting all choral leaders

abcd is the leading UK organisation devoted entirely to supporting everyone leading choral music. We are committed to promoting, improving and maintaining opportunities for the professional development of all those leading singing of any kind, whether in the classroom or in the community.

Our members represent nearly 2000 choral groups and include professional conductors, teachers, composers, singers and students, leading singing of all kinds.

The Choral Research Journal is our peerreviewed online academic research journal. Its aim is to promote research-informed practice and a scholarly approach to all aspects of collective singing.

We are delighted to collaborate with the Cathedral Music Trust for the New Generation Perspectives conference and publish the conference papers in a special edition of the journal.
