Greetings! So far, July’s been a weird month. It’s sunny one day, but all of a sudden the sky becomes dark and the next thing you know, it starts raining. But one thing’s for sure; Key Club hasn’t changed. It may be hot and humid outside, but that isn’t enough to stop us in our tracks. We’re always striving to do good despite minor setbacks. Towards the end of June, as I was preparing for my monthly cabinet meeting I was thinking of a list of goals I’d like us as a club to achieve. From that point, I was able to comprise a list of 5 club goals.

The five Goals: 1. Have at least 5 service events per month 2. Complete at least 50 plus, service hours in total per month as a club 3. Fundraise $50-100+ each month 4. Donate at least $150 to PTP 5. Donate at least $500-1,000 to the Eliminate Project

Since I initiated these goals, our club has done a great job in trying to meet them. As we continue into August, I know we’ll move closer to achieving these goals and please look forward to what we have in store! Hope to see you soon!

Thompson Park Clean-Up

Hey, what's up KC? Hopefully you haven't been slacking off on KC or become too attached to your couch since the summer started. Especially now that it's that time of the season where you scramble to finish up things you've been putting off, start resolutions you haven't fulfilled, and prepare to go back to school. : ( There is the silver lining of seeing your friends daily and KC meetings happening weekly again once school starts! Summer of course isn't over yet and we still have those extra hours of the day, however numbered they are. Hopefully you haven't become too addicted to your Netflix account and can squeeze in some more hours of service alongside with maybe some more trips to the beach? Go out there and kill it KC! - Audrey Garcia

A.G. There's no small task when it comes to helping your community! In the heat of summer our members cleared their schedule of groggy naps and beach trips to help out as firework vendors. The week before Independence Day, Bellflower Key Club volunteers worked with Kiwanis selling fireworks. Throughout the day we responsibly sold fireworks to adults and reminded all our customers to practice fire safety. Of course we are glad to have helped spread joy with many through the tradition of showing our liberty through fiery beauty and shared smiles along the way.

RELAY FOR LIFE 2015

C.G.

On July 10—12, the ninjas of D13S volunteered at the Relay For Life movement hosted at Bellflower High School! Millions of people, out of 20 countries who host Relay For Life events, help fund-raise through this movement to fight against cancer. This event also recognizes the lost love ones who have ended their battle of cancer, honors and inspires the ones who are still fighting; and celebrates the ones who survived. Key Clubbers helped all day by making and setting up signs throughout the track field for the teams! In addition, many shirts for participants were organized and folded. Booths were put up within the field, to share information about different cancers and sold items to help raise the RFL goal! “Angel” and goody bags were made and decorated in honor of the ones who fought, and who are still fighting; which are later on arranged in a candle-lighting. In conclusion, a little over $124,000 was raised! Smiles and laughter were shared during the past three days of hard work and service! We cheer for another successful Relay For Life and can’t wait for next year’s to come!

During July 21-24, Bellflower Key Club hosted a fundraiser at KooKoo Grill! Ten-percent of the profits were donated to the Pediatric trauma Program. The mission of PTP is to reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by trauma. As well as making sure children live safe and happy lives!

Paper Cranes C.G.

Bellflower’s Builders Club collaborated with Bellflower’s Key Club and created countless paper cranes! After school on Tuesdays and Mondays, participants folded many cranes to help reach the goal of 1,000 paper cranes! After the goal is reached, we will donate the paper cranes to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in LA!

Thompson Park Clean-Up

A.G.

Summer is a time where you find yourself with lots of FREE TIME. Many people fill their time outside of their house and go out. The weather is picture perfect here in Cali so parks are visited much more. Bellflower Key Club decided to spend our free time helping out the local Parks & Rec by holding a park cleanup at Thompson Park. We scoured the backfields and baseball field to find any forgotten trash. We left Thompson litter free and put all recyclables where they should be. Anyone can hold a park cleanup, many Parks & Rec even supply you with the gloves and bags. We here at Bellflower Key Club encourage everyone to make the effort to make their communities cleaner!
