Greetings!

Summer vacation is finally here! With school on break, that means more “me” time, more time to spend with family and friends, and more service! Remember, service never stops! We have a very eventful summer planned with Relay for Life, the Chamber of Commerce Fireworks Stand, and much more! Along with our service events, we will have social and fundraising events as well. Please look forward to our future events during the summer! Keep posted by following Bellflower Key Club on Instagram and checking your Remind 101 messages. Don’t forget to relax and have fun! Hope to see all you soon!

A letter from the editors Hey guys! Thanks for the supportive and nice feedback! I hope you like this second issue of our newsletter! Anyways, summer is here and school is finally over. In this case, it means more time for service events! Use these extra days off to give back to the community and to help others who are in need. On the other hand, the time has come and the senior key club members have to officially move on from high school; and say their bittersweet goodbye to their Key Club career. We all wish you seniors good luck, to you and to wherever your future takes you! I hope you all have a safe and nice summer! - Catherine Galermo

Recaps SB Key Leader Snow Cone Fundraiser Paper Cranes Buc Exchange American Red Cross: Blood Drive Bellflower Kiwanis Banquet

Hi again everyone! It's Audrey, second editor of the Bellflower Ninja News. Although it's not a new year on your calendar ,it is a new year for new KC cabinet members and joining members. We're starting fresh, OFFICIALLY, and have given many tearful goodbyes to our KC seniors. We may have lost some amazing role models, but I know we'll make them proud and become role models ourselves. We know what we're getting into this year and are taking the training wheels off to crash into the new term with our unmistakable KC energy. My challenge to all of you is to beat your personal best this new term (or start one if you're just joining) whether it be being on time, more service hours, or smiling more. Show everyone what it means to be a Key Clubber and Feel Good while doing it! - Audrey Garcia 5

Key Leader Key Leader taught me to get out of my comfort zone. I learned key characteristics to becoming a leader along with meeting people that strive for the same goals as me. Everyone I met were friendly and nice. I was never the one to socialize with anybody, but at key leader I let go of my fears and talked to many students. It was just great vibes with great people. The events we did taught us many skills such as teamwork, trust and cooperation. The food was great too. As it started to end I hoped key leader was longer. All the people I met and the things I learned were amazing. - John Ignacio

Key Leader has opened many doors of opportunity for me and was such an eyeopening experience. From interviewing new friends, living in nature for three days, and learning about leadership, I truly had an amazing time! I loved meeting new friends and creating a strong bond in the short amount of time we had. Not only did we have fun, but we were able to grow and learn from each other. Everyone has taught me how to become a better leader and how to cooperate with different personalities in the most positive ways! I enjoyed sharing ideas with others and seeing everyone's capability of reaching their full potential. Everyday was filled with such a positive atmosphere. - Catherine Galermo 6

Snow Cone Fundraiser After a hot, busy day at school, nothing sounds better than a cool, refreshing snow cone! During Monday's through Thursday's, the ninjas of Bellflower sold snow cones after school! The key clubbers collected donations, scooped ice, poured syrup, and served many students! Overall, we raised about $150! More than 50% of the proceeds were donated to the Children's Miracle Network Hospital; and the rest will go straight to important key club events and needs. The CMNH donations will support critical treatments, and charitable care for kids in our community! We are looking forward to continue having more fundraisers to benefit not only our club, but charities we can contribute to.

Paper Cranes C.G.

Bellflower’s Builders Club collaborated with Bellflower’s Key Club and created countless paper cranes! After school on Tuesdays and Mondays, participants folded many cranes to help reach the goal of 1,000 paper cranes! After the goal is reached, we will donate the paper cranes to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in LA!

Buc Exchange A.G.

The Buc Exchange is a new service we are starting here at Bellflower High. The Buc Exchange is a clothes donation service that is fully facilitated, run by, and started by the Bellflower High Key Club. We want to service the struggling student body that can’t show their style because of price tags or students that are just in need of some new wear by having our own private boutique in the school open to those who need it. We have clothes that range from toddlers and above, so any students can bring family members that are interested. We are opening the doors to the Buc Exchange in the near future and would just like to thank the many people that donated. We’d like to thank the Bellflower faculty and friends along with the KC members who organized the masses of donations we got.

Event

The rising sun. A cool breeze. And a bunch of key clubbers. It wasn’t your typical Sunday morning at Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach. On Sunday, June 21st, Bellflower Key Club joined in with other key clubbers in Division 13 south, to help set up, organize, guide, and cheer on all the runners and walkers at the 5K Fat Boy Run! It was an exciting day watching and encouraging all the runners and walkers pass us by! The high 5s to “ you’re almost there!” brought a smile to all the runners faces! The run ended with us helping clean up and enjoying a Dunkin’ Donut along the way.

American Red Cross:

BLOOD DRIVE C.G.

On May 28, 2015, Bellflower Key Club sponsored the American Red Cross annual Blood Drive at Bellflower High School! Before the huge event, we strived to recruit many donors as possible; by walking around campus to spread the word and setting up a registration table, to collect forms. Key Club members helped all day with check-ins, sharing information about the Blood Drive, and escorting donors. After the students donated their blood, we had a table set up with refreshments and made sure to keep them comfortable and satisfied. The day was filled with sweat, blood, and hard work! Every donation of blood that is received, can save up to three lives! Overall, we collected 92 pints of blood which saves up to 276 lives! We hope to have yet another successful blood drive next year! 13
