Dear Members, We are gearing up for another great Holiday Season here at Cattail Creek! From Thanksgiving to Hanukkah, and Christmas to New Year’s Eve, we have events scheduled that are sure to please Cattail kids and adults alike! A word to the wise – advance, online reservations are a must for all events. Over the past couple of years, they have been filling up earlier and earlier. December is a busy month for us from a private event perspective too, as many Members host family and company holiday parties. Please be sure to note the schedule of private events on the calendar at left, as the Restaurant will be closed to the general Membership during these functions. Though most weekend evenings in December are booked, we still have plenty of availability to accommodate holiday luncheons for your family or staff. In addition to our favorite festive social events, this year’s Holiday Guide gives you the scoop on the sales and promotions that will be offered in the Golf Pro Shop and the Tennis & Fitness Pro Shop. With plenty of merchandise stocked especially for the giftgiving season, you should be able to tackle most of your holiday shopping right at the Club, and best of all, at our discounted Mill River Program prices! I would also like to remind you that this is a great time of year to encourage your friends to consider joining the Club. Our ‘Fall Free Dues’ incentive allows new Members to join at the current initiation, but enjoy waived dues until March! The incentive helps to eliminate the age-old question of ‘Should we wait until spring to join?’ Check out the flyer in this issue, and tell them to join now and enjoy all of the fun upcoming events with you! On a warm and fuzzy note, Jungle Juice season might be over, but don’t fret, Head Bartender, Claude Murphy, will be bringing back his signature winter drink, Holiday Egg Nog. We’re still trying to get the secret recipe for this one out of him too…to no avail! On behalf of all of the staff here at the Club, cheers to a fun and festive season at Cattail Creek! Graciously,

HEY CATTAIL KIDS! Beginning November 1st, when you dine in the Restaurant, help us make a holiday paper garland by writing your favorite thing about the Christmas or Hanukkah season on a paper strip! We’ll put the chain together gradually and display it in the Clubhouse for all of the Members to admire!

Tips for a Healthy Winter JOHN FOELBER [FITNESS DIRECTOR] The fall season is here and winter is just around the corner. While we look forward to the holiday season and the chance to enjoy some snow related activities, our regular warm weather routine changes. The days are shorter, the temperature drops, and we typically fall into a very set, monotonous wintertime schedule. Because of these changes, extra stress, fatigue, exhaustion, anxiety and sometimes mild depression set in, but you can be proactive and get ahead of these problems. Try a few of these suggestions this season to be proactive. Get active! Cold weather is not appealing to most of us, but there are still a lot of outside activities to keep us moving. One of the main reasons to get outside in the winter is to get some Vitamin D, which your body makes in response to sunlight. Vitamin D helps with prevention of, and treatment for, many different conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and other heart diseases. Dress warm and go out to walk or jog around your neighborhood or park. Fall and winter golf is another option, as is a practice session at the Range or indoor Learning Center. Disconnect! In today’s technological world, we have Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and many other forms of social media constantly accessible at our fingertips. That is just the entertainment side; what about email and work-related items? How many emails do you get a day? Twenty, 60, 100 or more? Take some time, 30 to 60 minutes every day, to completely unplug from the internet and TV, and relax! Try Yoga Add in a simple morning yoga routine to start your day off right. Try the 12 positions to the right, shortly after you get up in the morning or before you go to sleep at night. The exercises of yoga are designed to put pressure on the glandular systems of the body, thereby increasing its efficiency and total health. Practicing a little routine several times per week will help you to have a quiet mind allowing silence and healing from everyday stress. These exercises are meant to be performed slowly. Remember to breathe! The rule of thumb concerning breathing in yoga is to breathe in on the backward bends and breathe out on the forward bends.

Keeping palms together, raise hands over head. Push hips forward and bend backwards as far as is comfortable.

Bend your body forward at your hips while raising your tailbone. Bring palms or fingertips to the floor next to your feet. Bend left leg and position right leg backward, in a lunge position.

Bring left foot back next to right foot, keeping arms straight.

Bend knees, and lower knees, chest, and chin to the floor.

Sweep your chest and chin upward, straightening your arms.

Lift the tailbone, allowing hips to rise. Keep palms and feet on the floor.

Bend right leg and position left leg backwards, in a lunge position.

Bend your body forward at your hips while raising your tailbone. Bring palms or fingertips to the floor, next to your feet.

Slowly come up, raising hands over head. Push hips forward and bend backwards as far as is comfortable.

Come up to standing position with palms together in front of your chest.
