TOP 10 REASONS TO START PLAYING TENNIS IN 2015
GenEral Manager NOTES GREG COLOMBO, CCM [GENERAL MANAGER]
There were many changes in 2014 and we made great strides towards improvement in several areas at Cattail; I am looking forward to even more improvement in 2015. A short while back, I had indicated a survey would be coming to you soon: that time is now upon us. We are looking for your honest and candid feedback on what we have done well this past year, and areas where we still need to improve in 2015. The survey overall will take about 15 to 20 minutes of your time. We are asking more in-depth questions this year to develop benchmarks. Each year to follow, we will target only one or two specific areas for the survey to focus on in consideration of your time. A separate tennis survey will be coming out later this winter once we have more information regarding the tennis bubble and the next steps in that process. As I close my first full year at Cattail, I just wanted to thank you for letting me be a part of this wonderful and unique club. I am looking forward to spending many seasons with you!

Elite-level competitive power lifters can squat, deadlift, and bench press 1000 lbs. with each lift. While most of us cannot relate to this level of strength, we are still usually able to surpass that number in total weight lifted during our workouts. If we count all weight lifted equally, a single 1000 lb. repetition would be equivalent to a 10-repetition set at 100 lbs., or a 20-repetition set at 50 lbs. This month we’ll track how much total weight you can lift in one workout, and who can rack up the highest weight total for the month. To keep it fair and interesting, machine-based exercises are weighted differently than free weight exercises. Club Cocktail Party
Follow these guidelines when adding up your total weight lifted: 1. Machine-based exercises (chest press, leg curl, leg press, leg extension, lateral pull down, chest fly/reverse delt) 1 lb. = 1 lb.
g
atin ead Decor
Gingerbr
2. Free weight exercises (dumbbell, kettlebell, medicine ball, cable) 1 lb. = 2 lbs. 3. Bodyweight exercises Do not count; it’s about lifting weights after all! A sample workout might look like this: - Leg extension (machine) 2 sets of 10 repetitions at 80 lbs. = 1,600 lbs.
New Year’s at Noon
- Standing squat (free weight) 3 sets of 15 repetitions holding a 25 lb. medicine ball = 2,250 lbs. - Leg curl (machine) 2 sets of 10 repetitions at 55 lbs. = 1,100 lbs. - Walking lunges = 0 lbs. (They’re good for you, but do not count towards your total) Total weight lifted = 4,950 lbs. Keep track of and record both your total weight lifted for each workout and your total monthly weight lifted as there will be two winners this month!

The Patio at the new Short Game Area is sure to be a hot spot in 2015.
As the year drew to a close, so did renovations out on the Golf Course. The new Short Game Area has been completed and put to bed for the winter. The Green Department crew is ready to start using their well-earned vacation time before inhouse Course furniture refurbishments start later this month. 2014 was an outstanding year for the Golf Course. Not only were we able to provide high quality, consistent conditions but we also made many physical improvements. A forced
renovation to #12 green got us moving in the spring and also resulted in improvements to #12 green surround and #11 fairway and rough. Improvements continued through the fall with modifications to #2, #5 and #12, not to mention #10. We are hoping for a mild winter and are really looking forward to growing in the Short Game Area as soon as possible this spring. Thank you for everyone’s support this year, we are ready for a fantastic 2015.

anuary is my month of travel. I will be going to Miami for the first time, to attend the PGA Merchandiser-of-the Year Conference at Trump National Doral. I was fortunate enough to attend this conference last year and found it very beneficial. The conference is full of presentations by successful PGA Head Golf Professionals, AGM merchandisers, and other golf and retail leaders. It is a wonderful opportunity to get fresh, new ideas for our Professional Shop.
and Tyler. This is when we are able to check out what is new and exciting in the world of golf and place orders with vendors for summer and fall 2015. This will be my second PGA Show, so I know things I did not before, like not to wear heels and not to take a catalog
from every vendor I see (they can email them!). All in all, I am very thankful for the opportunity to be going back to Florida to learn more this year and to spend quality time with my coworkers. I am looking forward to another great year!
After the conference, I will be heading up north to Orlando for the PGA Merchandise Show with Bob, Nic, Eli, The massive PGA Merchandiser of the Year Conference at Trump National Doral.

There’s no other sport you can play throughout your life from the earliest ages to your latest years, that gives you the physical, mental, emotional, and social benefits that tennis does.

Alex Justiniani, Director of Tennis has been playing the game his entire life and now shares top reasons why you and your family should pick up the classic sport this coming season!

Tennis requires alertness, tactical thinking, and problem solving. It is one of the best feelings when you defeat an opponent who may be a better player than you, but with whom you were the smarter player.
4. Tennis is FUN!
At every level of the game and at every age, from 10 & Under Tennis through super-senior leagues, players alike have fun while getting a great workout.
5. Tennis Can be for anything!
Looking for competition, social play, team camaraderie, a good workout, time with family or friends, tournaments and national championships? Tennis has all of that and more.

Through tennis, you can learn the value of working hard, sportsmanship, accepting responsibility, managing mistakes, enhancing discipline, learning to compete, coping with pressure and adversity, developing healthy habits, and learning teamwork.

Tennis engages your mind and body at the same time, unlike a typical workout at a gym. Scientists and doctors around the world point to tennis as one of the most healthful activities you can participate in. It delivers overall physical, mental and emotional gains. It will add years to your life, and life to your years!
9. Tennis is social!
I have met some of my best friends in life through tennis and competition. On court and off, you’re guaranteed to make friends through tennis. The sport encourages interaction, communication, and just plain fun. Plus, it’s a great way to make business connections.
