Cattail Creek has retained its designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, and Audubon International Program. Participation is designed to help course personnel plan, organize, implement, and document a comprehensive environmental management program and receive recognition for their efforts. To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas including: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conversation, and Water Quality Management.

anniversary party & fireworks ARE YOU A FIRST TIME ATTENDEE? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW! GABBY FORTE [MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR]

» WHAT IS IT? The Anniversary Party is the annual celebration of the Club’s Anniversary (which is officially July 3rd). It is the biggest Club event of the year, as we have over 1300 Members and their Guests in attendance. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and consists of kid’s entertainment, a DJ, plenty of food & drink and, of course, fireworks!

» HOW DO I REGISTER? Advance registration is required, so visit the Club Calendar on the website to sign up your family and any guests you may want to bring. Due to the size of the event, and the significant advance planning required, reservations cancelled with a 48-hour period will be charged 50% per person. Day-of cancellations and noshow reservations will be charged 100%.

» WHAT IS INCLUDED? You may be wondering what is included in the cost of admission – all food and non-alcoholic beverages along with the entertainment. We also include draft beer from the beer truck next to the tent. Any other alcoholic beverages are by signature. Outside beverages and coolers are not permitted to be brought in. This is one of the few events throughout the year the does not count towards your quarterly food minimum, as the majority of the cost of this event goes towards fireworks and entertainment, not food.

» DO WE HAVE TO CHECK-IN? Each Member is given a wristband to attend the event, and it must be worn throughout the entire evening. Due to the size of the event, we offer early check-in for those that are able to stop by the Club and pick up their wristbands before the night of the party. Our advance pick-up times are listed to th right, please consider stopping by early! If you cannot pick up your wristband at one of these times, you may check-in at one of the registration tables located at both entrances to the Lower Patio.

» WHERE DO WE SIT? Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs and set them up on the grassy area behind the Clubhouse at any point on Saturday, June 24. Many tables are also available for dining on the back lawn or the Lower Patio

and under the tent. We do ask that you don’t linger too long, as these are meant to be used as open seating for all in attendance to eat.

» IS THERE A RAIN PLAN? Yes, in the case of inclement weather to the point where the event cannot go on, the party will be held the following day, Sunday, June 25. We will notify the Membership if that is the case.

» SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY HAS AN ALLERGY – WHAT CAN THEY EAT? We label all food items with allergy information, so you can tell what has specific items. If you have a special request or would like more information, please contact Jennifer Turowski, Director of Operations, and she can assist.

» IS THERE WHEELCHAIR ACCESS? There is an elevator within the Clubhouse itself, and plenty of seating on the Lower Patio to accommodate those in a wheelchair. We also provide indoor, air conditioned seating for those that would benefit from it.

» THERE’S A RAFFLE, YOU SAY? The Club is in great need of updated pictures for our system for the majority of the membership, so we will have a photo area for you to stop by and have your picture taken (adults only!). Each Member that takes the time to stop by will get his or her name added to a raffle for $200 towards their drinks or admission that evening. The winner will be chosen that evening.

Advanced Wristband Pick-Up Times Wednesday, June 21 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. *In the Clubhouse Lobby

Thursday, June 22 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. *In the Clubhouse Lobby

THE LONDON MULE The Gin Gin Mule, also known as a London Mule, is a variation on the Moscow Mule that I much prefer. The flavors of gin blend well with that of the ginger beer, making it much more pleasing to taste, and much more complex than a Moscow Mule. INGREDIENTS · · · ·

2 oz of London Dry Gin 3/4 oz Lime Juice Ginger Beer 4 or 5 Mint Leaves

DIRECTIONS 1. Combine the juice and mint in a copper mug or collins glass 2. Muddle the Mint 3. Fill the glass with ice and add the Gin 4. Stir until chilled 5. Top it off with the Ginger Beer 6. Garnish with a lime and mint leaf

RICKY’S TIP:

KEYS TO PUTTING

RICKY SERRANO [Director of Golf Instruction]

There is no set way to become a great putter. Players throughout history have all approach putting in a different way. However, every great putter has a few key fundamentals that they follow. These key fundamentals include; setup, tempo, distance control, and confidence. This determines the building blocks to become a great putter. Putting is like signing your signature, its instinctive. It is a shot that needs to be flowing and consistent every time you make a stroke. At least 40% or more of your score is with the putter, yet it doesn’t require superior strength and is the only part of the game where you can be better than any professional.

Keys: - Shoulders parallel to the target line - Eyes just inside the ball - Have a stable stance - Ball at or ahead of center of stance - Trust your read

BUNKER to BUNKER

Memorial Day has come and gone, and the Pool being open is a sure sign that summer is upon us and golf season is in full swing. Our early season events, including the new Masters Par 3 Challenge, have all seen great participation. Our CCWGA women’s leagues are off to an excellent start, and we have a record number of teams in both the Men’s and Women’s Founder’s Cups. The Junior Golf season began with an appearance by ‘Golfzilla’ at the Junior Kickoff event, and we are excited to get the PGA Junior League season underway. This year, we had enough interest to field two full teams. Exciting stuff! We are also fully stocked in the Golf Shop with all of the latest and greatest in golf equipment, apparel and accessories for the whole family. With the addition of our new Buyer and Merchandiser, Annie Shearer, we hope you notice an increased service level moving forward. In addition to traditional golf equipment and apparel, we are also offering many more “lifestyle” pieces, such as our new Peter Millar swimsuits and sport coats. I encourage you to check out the convenient online special order page on the Cattail website. With the Mill River program, you will always get tremendous value. U.S. OPEN POOLS The 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin will take place Thursday, June 15 - Sunday, June 18. We will once again be offering two different pools to add some extra excitement to the season’s 2nd Major. Both contests are open to all Members (Golf, Social and Dining). Here are the details: RANDOMLY DRAWN U.S. OPEN POOL Members may purchase an entry for $10 (maximum of ten entries per Member). Players will be drawn at random, and each player in the field will be assigned to a Member. Golf Shop sweeps credit will be awarded based on the number of entries. U.S. OPEN DREAM TEAM CONTEST Pick any five (5) players and one alternate to form your U.S. Open Dream Team. Of your five (5) selected golfers, four (4) must make the “cut” AND stay in play through the weekend to remain eligible. If all 5 of your golfers make the cut, then all 5 stay “in play” and the lowest 4 of those 5 overall scores on Sunday will determine your final score. I look forward to seeing everyone out on the Course and at the Club soon! Everything for Golf,

Back in 2013, Alex and I were looking for someone that could perform a wide array of tasks including stringing, teaching and running the USTA Leagues. I immediately thought of my elder sibling who is the most knowledgeable and versatile person I know in the tennis industry.

Bobby joined the staff

For those who do not know us, we are much closer than most siblings. For as long as I can remember it has been our dream to run a tennis program together. I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to serve as Cattail Creek’s Director of Tennis, and could not have asked for a stronger team to help me grow what is already a great tennis program.
