of the month

General Manager's Notes GREG COLOMBO [GENERAL MANAGER] I have spoken with many Members during my time in the club business, regarding the reasons why they choose to belong to a club. Most often, I hear that it is their “home away from home.” As all

things change, even at country clubs, the new industry buzzword seems to be ‘stay-cation.’

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

June Fitness Challenge:

Holding the plank

Thank You For Your Support! The Cattail Creek Management Team would like to thank our amazing Members for helping us host two very special events this spring. Rally for the Cure and the American Junior Golf Association Tournament would not of been possible without your support! THANK YOU!

John Foelber [fitness director ]

Planks! June’s fitness challenge is just as simple as April’s squat hold but also just as hard. Performing a plank exercise will help strengthen your core muscles, tighten up your stomach, arms and legs and also increase your general muscular endurance. To perform a plank correctly… 1. Lie in a prone (stomach down) position 2. Bring your elbows under your shoulders with your forearms on the ground 3. Lift your body up supporting your weight just on your toes and forearms 4.Your whole body should be straight with your neck slightly extended 5. Hold as long as you can!

What it should look like

What to avoid

Body straight, back flat, hips level, head up

Hips are too high in the air, neck is not extended and..

What counts and what doesn’t

What to avoid

Start timing yourself once you get set and try to hold as long

Back is arched, shoulders have collapsed

as possible, stop timing when you can’t hold any longer. Any movements such as rocking back and forth or up and down with your hips, stretching out your arms, dipping your body to briefly rest or any other movement, mark the end of that attempt. It really is simple, hold the plank position as long as you can, mark your efforts on the record keeping sheet in the Fitness Center and try to beat your best time.

LYNN SLUPSKI [Membership Marketing Director] & NIC FLICKINGER [First Assistant Golf Professional] Few hold claim to what can be considered one of the most rewarding accomplishments for a golfer – the elusive hole-in-one. Some excellent golfers never experience the thrill associated with making an ace, while other lucky souls seem to have a knack for sinking the ball right into the cup, racking up multiple holes-in-one in their lifetimes. At Cattail, we have a ‘Hole-in-One Club’ to celebrate Members who make an ace here on their home course. Notice of the feat is posted on our Facebook page and printed in the monthly newsletter, signs are put up on the Clubhouse and Lower Patio bars, and the Member gets permanent recognition in the form of a plaque on the appropriate board on our ‘Walk of Fame’ in the lower level of the Main Clubhouse. Best of all, all Golf Members who are at the Club on a day that a fellow Member makes a hole-in-one, receive a complimentary house drink from the bar. Then at the end of the year, each Golf

[Director of Instruction ]

One of the most common problems I notice when teaching, is a student’s inability to ‘release,’ or ‘square’ the clubface, at impact. The feeling is difficult to obtain because the club is moving with incredible speed as it approaches the ball. The following drill will train your hands, wrists and arms to instinctively rotate the clubface into square position at the critical moment. You’ll better be able to release the club properly and more efficiently, and it will strengthen and improve the performance of the big muscles in your legs, hips, side and back. Procedure: 1. Rest a broom sideways on the ground. 2. Make your swing, allowing the broom to fan open on the back swing. 3. On the downswing, you will feel the broom offer plenty of resistance coming from behind you; proof that you are swinging along an inside path. 4. In addition to making full swings, throw the broom at your target from time to time. This will force you to rotate your hands and forearms as in a real swing.

Correctly Filling Your Ballmarks CHRIS HARRIMAN

Any mark that was caused by a ball and that you can see right now on a green, was fixed incorrectly. The combination of the health of the turf and our cultural practices, at the current time, ensure that 99% of ballmarks can be fixed to achieve a smooth and invisible result.
