Welcome to 7P Ranch’s 36th Annual Production Sale and 12th combined Purebred female, bull and commercial females.

We are experiencing a drought like no other.

Our herd has been developed since 1975.

Continuous AI and extensive E.T. We have a herd that has allowed us to produce quality, productive Simmental and Sim Angus for commercial and purebred herds alike.

I am not prepared to walk away from these genetics. As always we will offer the best of our genetics from our 500 head herd and for the first time by request will offer 12 open heifers ½ Sim Angus Mytty In Focus and 6 PB Simmental by Superior and Right On. All ready to breed this fall.

The cattle are in extremely good shape and are drought tested. We have well water.

You will notice low weaning weights. We don’t creep feed our cattle until about a month before weaning to help them transition well into weaning. (I think we have an answer for childhood obesity).

This summer they have had our best hay and accuration and are in condition to calve and breed back.

Our cattle have had deworming, complete vaccination program, and health papers to go to any state in the USA.

We know our fellow Texans and our neighbors to the north are hurting as well but where there is grass we have what you need.

Best set of bulls yet. 31 bulls 20-23 months.

52 yearling bulls 13-14 months will be AI sired by PB Simmental or Angus Mytty In Focus. The exception of a few of the 16 Pigeon Mount bulls are purchased from them as weaned calves. Some of these are E.T. calves and bull bred.

All bulls are gentle. Bulls over 16 months will be semen tested.

We take seriously our promise to offer our best Simmental and SimAngus genetics each last Saturday in October.

BUYER INFORMATION

Herd Health All cattle will sell with proper interstate health papers. All females were calfhood vaccinated. All sale cattle have been vaccinated with IBR, BVD, P13, Vibro Letpo 5 and eight-way black-leg. All bulls have been fertility checked and all heifers are reproduction tract examined. All sell guaranteed breeders.

All bulls 16 months and over will be fertility tested.

Texas is certified free for TB and brucellosis.

Bull Care Your yearling bull is a major investment. Experience has shown us that yearling bulls can function very well even under harsh environments. You can count on them to breed 20-25 females depending on the conditions. We have the following recommendations.

1. If possible, run your yearling bulls separate from older bulls during their first breeding season.

2. Make sure that your bulls gain weight in the fall after the breeding season, before winter.

3. Feed energy supplementation (grain) beyond simply grass and protein to your yearling bulls. Avoid feeding the young bulls in the same pasture with older or horned bulls Simmental EPD Explanations Calving Ease Direct (CE-H) - predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when bred to first-calf heifers. Expressed as percentage of unassisted births with a HIGHER value indicating greater calving ease.

Birth Weight (BW) - expressed in pounds and predicts the average difference that can be expected in an animal's offspring when compared with another animal in the same genetic evaluation. The LOWER the number the better here.

Weaning Weight (WW) - expressed in pounds and predicts the average differences in weight that can be expected between the progeny of animals in the same genetic evaluation of 205 days of age. The HIGHER the WW number, the more pound weaned.

Yearling Weight (YW) - Like Birth and Weaning Weight EPDs, Yearling Weight EPDs are expressed in pounds and predict the average differences that can be expected between progeny of animals at one year of age. Like weaning weight, the HIGHER the number, the more pounds at yearling time.

Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW) - This EPD value predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of bull's daughters' calves compared to calves from daughters of all other bulls evaluated. The evaluation reflects both the maternal ability of the bull's daughters and the growth potential of their calves. When comparing maternal weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger maternal weaning weight EPD indicates heavier weaning weights due to daughters' ability to produce heavier calves. Maternal Weaning Weight EPD is calculated by: MWW EPD = MMK EPD + 0.5 (WW EPD).

EPDs for Carcass Traits Explanations of the ultrasound measurements are as follows: Marbling The difference in marbling score expected in a bull’s offspring compared to the offspring of other bulls in the population.

Yield Grade The difference in yeild grade expected in a bull’s offspring compared to the offspring of other bulls in the population. Next sire summary YG EPD’s will be used. These are figured by dividing the percent retail cuts EPDs by -2.3.

Carcass Weight The difference in carcass weight expected in a bull’s offspring compared to the offspring of other bulls in the population.

All-Purpose Index (API) Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yeild.

Terminal Index (TI) Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.

Maternal Calving Ease (MCEH) - predicts the averFINAL DATA WILL BE age ease with which a sire's daughters will calve as AVAILABLE ON SUPPLEMENT first-calf heifers compared to the daughters of anothSHEET SALE DAY. er sire in the same evaluation. SALE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following suggestions are offered as possible terms and conditions of sale to be agreed upon before the sale of 7P Ranch cattle. It recognizes that these suggestions may not be mutually agreeable and are not intended as a substitute for competent legal advice.

BIDDING AND APPLICABLE LAW: All cattle listed in this offering comply with prevailing sale terms and conditions as set forth by the laws of the state wherein the sale is conducted. There are no warranties, express or implied, by either the auctioneer or consignor, except as set forth herein, as to the merchantability of fitness for any particular purpose of any animal offered in this sale. The right to bid or the right to reject the final bid, if done before the hammer falls, is reserved for all sellers unless otherwise announced from the sale block or as prohibited by law in the state wherein the sale is being conducted.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Any change of information other than in the catalog will be announced from the auction block and such announcements shall take precedence over printed material. All statements made from the auction block or those made by the seller (in private treaty) must be documented by seller if requested by the buyer at time of sale.

TERMS: Terms of sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with the seller previous to the sale of any animal so affected.

PURCHASER'S RISK: Each animal becomes the property of and therefore is also the risk of the purchaser as soon as it is sold; except it shall be the obligation of the seller to see that animals are fed and cared for free of charge to purchaser, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of twenty-four (24) hours after the sale, whichever occurs first.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: 1. All cattle entered for sale must meet the health regulation of the state in which they are sold. All other agreements regarding the health of the animal will be between the buyer and seller and should be documented in writing.

2. If sale cattle are returned to the seller for an adjustment, they must meet the health requirements of the state they are returned to.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Each animal which is catalogued, offered and sold as a registered animal shall have a certificate of registry available at time of sale. When an animal is sold as "eligible for registry" or "registry applied for," the seller shall be responsible for obtaining the certificate of registry and for the proper transfer of the certificate to the purchaser including full payment of transfer fees.

IDENTIFICATION: Each animal at time of sale must have a readable tattoo or brand corresponding to that shown on the certificate of registration.

AUTHENTICITY OF PEDIGREE: When an animal, through blood-typing, is determined to have ancestry other than that reported on the registration certificate, the buyer shall be entitled to a refund of the purchase price from the seller upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the seller's expense. The animal in question at the buyer's option may exchange for another animal of equal value, or if agreeable with the buyer, the seller may have the certificate returned to the buyer. Any adjustment provided herein, if selected, shall absolve the seller form further liability for authenticity of pedigree to the buyer.

BREEDING GUARANTEES AND DEFINITIONS: 1.Females are guaranteed to be breeders, with the exception of: a. Female calves sold at side of dam b. Injury or disease occurring to the animal after time of sale c. Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of he purchaser d. Females used in ovum transplant after time of sale e. Cows sold with calf at side or female that calves after sale to a breeding prior to the date of sale 2. Bulls are guaranteed to be breeders (defined as the ability to settle healthy cows by the time the bull is 18 months of age) with the exception of : a. Bull calves sold at side of dam b. Injury or disease occurring to the animal after time of sale c. Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the pur chaser d. Bulls shown competitively after sale 3. Any guarantees with respect to the ability to freeze semen shall be made by separate agreement between the buyer and seller.

4. Safe in calf females are females that have been diagnosed pregnant by a competent veterinarian, and are pregnant at time of sale.

5. A bred female is a female known to have been served by a bull either by natural breeding or artificial insemination, but it does not necessarily mean that the female is safe in calf to that service.

6. A pasture-bred female is a female that has been pastured with a designated bull and has been exposed for the time stated, but it does not necessarily mean that this female is safe in calf to that bull.

7. An open heifer is a virgin heifer that has never been exposed to a bull either through natural service or artificial insemination.

8. An open cow is a cow that has not been exposed to a bull either through natural service or artificial insemination.

9. Calves sold off their dams (split pairs) shall carry the full breeding guarantee.

PRIVELEGE OF PURCHASER TO EXAMINE: The purchaser of a female animal my have her examined within one week after the sale. The pregnancy status or breeding status of any female so examined, when found not to be as represented at the time of sale, is cause for the female to be returned to the seller as unsold.

EMBRYO TRANSFER: 1. Sellers should provide upon request a complete history of embryo transfer activity for any female offered for sale.

2. Polled/Scurred - An animal with rudimentary horn growth that will not develop into a horn. The rudimentary horn growth may or may not become affixed to the skull at an older age.

3. Polled - An animal with absence of horn growth. (An animal can have scurs and still be genetically polled.)

4. Smooth Polled - A smooth-polled individual has no scurs and does not develop scurs later in life.

GUARANTEES: 1. If fan animal is sold as polled or polled/scurred and proves to be horned, the seller shall be obligated to refund the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the expense or the seller or may be exchanged for a polled animal of equal value, whichever is acceptable to the buyer. The buyer has thirty (30) days from date of sale to notify the seller that an adjustment is in order.

2. If an animal is sold as polled and has scurs, the seller will not be obligated to make any adjustments as a scurred animal is considered polled.

3. If an animal is sold as polled and has scurs, it shall be so announced a t the time of sale that the animal has scurs. If it is not announced and the buyer finds before the animal leave the premises that the animal has scurs, the buyer must notify the seller of the findings. The seller shall then be obligated to refund the purchase price OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT: The following adjustments do not preclude the right of the buyer and seller to mutually agree upon other terms and conditions for settlement of any dispute.

1. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either within six (6) months from the date of sale or no later than when the animal reaches 24 months of age whichever occurs later, with the exception of claims involving mis-representation of service sire or as otherwise provided herein.

2. In the event an animal is claimed to be a nonbreeder, the animal may be returned to the farm of the seller, at buyer's expense if in good physical condition, and the return is in compliance with the health requirements of the seller's state.

The seller shall be entitled to a six (6) month trial period following the return of the animal in which to prove the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six (6) months the seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall, at the option of the buyer, replace the animal with another of equal value or refund the purchase price.

Either option shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement.

3. If a female is sold as "safe in calf" to a given sire or sires on a specified date or dates and proves no to be as represented, the buyer is entitled to a refund of the purchase price from the seller upon return of the animal and resulting progeny thereof to the farm of the seller at the seller's expense.

4. If female is sold as "open" and proves to be with calf at a time of sale and examined pregnant within sixty (60) days after sale, the buyer may return the purchase price or for another animal of equal value, whichever is acceptable to the buyer. It shall be the obligation of the seller to bear any expenses incurred for transportation of the animal in question to the farm of the seller.

LIMITATION OF OBLIGATIONS: 1.If the aforementioned suggested terms and conditions are adopted, they should constitute a contract between the buyer and seller for each animal sold under these terms, and as such, should be binding upon both parties. Animals resold following purchase in a sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the privileges and obligations of the original two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of the sale.

Using the API and TI Indexes for Selection Nearly all breed association have adopted Index EPDs over the past 5 or 6 years to help simplify the selection process and to encourage presenting EPDs in terms of dollars of profit instead of having to interpret multiple EPDs expressed in pounds or units. Now you can use the index EPD values to predict profit differences between bulls which hopefully you will agree is the goal of seedstock selection.

For Simmental and Semmental Composited seedstock, there are just two, dollar value index EPDs available. The All Purpose Index or API, is just that, all purpose. If you plan to keep a bull’s daughters back in the herd as replacements, you should consider using the API as a tool to improve the profitability of you herd. Traits such as Stayability, Calving Ease, Maternal Calving Ease and Marbling are large componenet of this index but all traits are included based on their relative profitability. On the other hand, if you plan to sell all the progeny of your selected bulls in a terminal arrangement, the Terminal Index or TI is your best tool to improve profitability. The TI is heavily affected by growth and carcass traits, but still includes calving ease to a lesser degree.

To compare two sires based on API, the dollar values listed are a prediction of the difference in value per cow exposed over a sire’s lifetime. This includes his long term impact upon the profitability of your herd because of his retained daughters in addition to the value of his calves sold.

Example: Bull A API = $120 Bull B API = $100

Expect bull A to be enhance profit by around $20 for every cow he breeds in his lifetime compared to bull B. So if bull A he mates 25 cows per year for 4 years, you might expect him to be worth nearly $2000.00 or more than bull B. (25 x 4 = 100 calves 100 x $20 = $2000) Use API and TI to help simplify selection decisions. Then use the individual EPDs and personal preferences to determine value and ultimately choose the seedstock that bring the most profitability potential to your operation.
