Take US 89 South (Toward Yellowstone Park) for 15 miles to Mill Creek Road. Turn left and go East (across the Yellowstone River). Turn left at the stop sign at East River Road. Go 1.3 miles to Elbow Creek Road and turn right. Go 1/4 mile and go straight across the cattle guard to the sale barn.

WHY EPDS ARE SO IMPORTANT GLOSSARY OF TERMS Genetic predictions in the form of EPDs are a cattle producer’s most powerful tool for making informed breeding decisions. An EPD, or expected progeny difference, is just what it sounds like. It is a prediction of the difference between the average performance of future progeny of an individual and the performance as compared to all other individuals in the breed. In other words, they are a comparative prediction of genetic merit. The Red Angus Association implemented Total Herd Reporting (THR) in 1995 which requires that the production and performance of all animals in the Red Angus herd book be accounted for annually. THR enables Red Angus to have the most unbiased and reliable EPDs in the industry and allows producers to make selection decisions with confidence. EPDs are the only way to compare animals across all herds in the country. RAAA has focused its recent efforts on developing EPDs for Economically Relevant Traits (ERTs). ERTs are those aspects of fertility, calving ease, stayability, and maintence, which directly affect your profitability. BW: Actual birth weight of an animal 205 AWW: Adjusted Weaning Weight. An animal’s actual weaning weight adjusted to 205 days of age and age of dam. 365 AYW: Adjusted Yearling Weight. An animal’s actual yearling weight adjusted to 365 days. WR: Weaning Ratio. How an animal’s 205 AWW compares to all others in his contemporary group. 100 is average. ADG: Average Daily Gain. The average number of pounds gained on test. YR: Yearling Ratio. How an animal’s 365 adjusted weight compares to all other animals in his contemporary group. 100 is average. EPD PERCENTILE RANKING: Where an animal ranks when compared to all bulls/females in the breed. For example, a bull/female who ranks in the top 2% ranks above 98% of his contemporaries. CED EPD: Calving Ease Direct. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability than an animal’s calves will be born without assistance to a two-year old heifer. BW EPD: Birth Weight. Number of pounds difference that an animal is expected to produce at birth compared to the average of all bulls/females in the breed. WW EPD: Weaning Weight. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 205 days of age that this bull/female can be expected to produce compared to AWWs from all bulls/females in the breed. YW EPD: Yearling Weight. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 365 days of age that this bull/female can be expected to produce compared to the average 365 AYWs of progeny from all bulls/females in the breed. MILK EPD: Milk Production. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 205 days expected from this bull’s/female’s daughters through milk production alone. TMAT EPD: Total Maternal. The total amount of weaning weight expected from a bull’s/female’s daughters’ calves through milk production plus growth potential. ME: Maintenance Energy. The difference in energy requirements of a bull/female as compared to all other bulls/females in the breed. The calculation includes body weight, condition score, and milk. HPG: Heifer Pregnancy. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability than an animal’s daughters will conceive to calve as twoyear olds. CEM EPD: Calving Ease Total Maternal. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability that an animal’s daughters will calve unassisted. STAYABILITY: The probability that a cow will remain in the herd for a period of 6 years. Given the primary emphasis in most herds on pregnancy, stayability is likely to be more a measure of sustained fertility than anything else. Stayability is calculated on a percentage basis. MARB-MARBLING EPD: The expected progeny difference of marbling score in a bull/female as compared to marbling scores of all other bulls/females in the breed. YIELD GRADE (YG): predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade score, and is expressed in USDA Yield Grade units. YG EPD is calculated using the genetic predictions of CW, REA and FAT EPDs. The reliability of Red Angus’ YG EPD is enhanced by using both ultrasound and actual carcass data in the calculation of REA and FAT EPDs. CARCASS WEIGHT (CW): predicts differences in hot carcass weight and is expressed in pounds. Because Red Angus’ CW EPD is a multi-trait model which includes birth, weaning, and yearling weight data, the prediction is not subject to culling bias. Thus, it provides a more reliable EPD as compared to only using actual carcass weights. This computation allows for the use of weights taken on ~57,000 animals per year as compared to only ~1,500 animals per year with actual carcass weight observations. Increased Carcass Weight tends to detrimentally affect Yield Grade; the calculation of which also includes Rib Eye Area and Fat Thickness. REA-RIBEYE AREA EPD: The expected progeny difference of ribeye area of a bull/female as compared to the REA of all other bulls/females in the breed. BFAT-BACKFAT: The expected progeny difference of the depth of fat cover in a bull/female as compared to all other bulls/females in the breed. BREED AVERAGES: The average EPDs of all animals in the breed in any given category. 3

settlement and transaction of ALL claims. Yearling bulls shall be guaranteed breeders for no more than 25 females. All complaints regarding breeding difficulties must be reported in writing by the buyer to the seller within the specified time above, and any animal returned must be free from disease and in good health and condition. All animals are guaranteed to be breeders, with the exception of: a) calves under twelve months of age; or b) animals shown by Purchaser after sale (in case of animals shown after purchase the breeding guarantee, if any, shall be such as agreed upon between Seller and Buyer; or c) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the Purchaser.

TERMS: Terms of the sale are check or cash. Every animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The right of property shall not pass until after complete settlement is made. All settlements will be made with the clerks of the sale immediately following the conclusion of the sale and before any cattle will be released from the sale facility or ranch. BIDDING DISPUTES: The auctioneer will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.

OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT: All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either within six month of the sale date or no later than six months after the animal reaches 18 months of age with the exception of claims involving defects or parentage.

RETAINED INTEREST: We are retaining a 1/2 interest or 1/3 interest in all bulls as denoted in the catalog. We are selling the remaining interest, full possession, and full salvage value on these bulls. We also retain a breeding interest for in-herd use only in all other bulls in the catalog. We reserve the right to collect semen at the convenience of the buyer.

Fertility: All bulls are yearling virgins. Each bull has been fertility tested and examined for soundness. Scrotal dimensions were taken on January 8, 2011 and were adjusted by RAA and are listed in this catalog.

SEMEN RIGHTS: Buyers receive semen rights proportional to the interest purchased. If you purchase a 1/2 interest then you are entitled to 1/2 of the semen collections at cost provided that you indicate you want semen prior to collection. We intend to collect some of the bulls in the sale and sample them in our herd. We will cooperate with the buyer in collection of the bull. We prefer to collect most bulls after the first season of use and we will contact the buyer when we intend to collect the bull at a time convenient for the buyer.

LIABILITY: Neither owners, sale managers, clerks nor anyone connected with the sale assumes responsibility, legal, or otherwise, for damages of any kind. Any person attending the sale does so at his own risk. CONTRACT: The above terms and conditions shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal sold.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be fed, watered and cared for at the purchaser’s risk until April 1, 2011. After that, there will a per day feed cost added to the purchase price, payable before possession occurs.

IDENTIFICATION: Each animal carries a readable tattoo. The tag numbers on the cattle correspond with lot and tattoo numbers in this catalog. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry and transfer will be provided on all bulls sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Changes of information contained in this catalog relating to the animals offered for the sale will be announced from the auction box and such announcements shall take precedence. Errors discovered in the catalog will be corrected by announcements at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalog.

IMPLIED WARRANTY: Except for those stated in the terms and conditions, there are no warranties, wither expressed or implied, as to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the cattle being sold in this auction. The warranties set fort in terms and conditions are in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied and the remedies proved therein shall be the sole and exclusive remedy of the buyer, or any part claiming through buyer, for any breach of warranty or guarantee therein provided and all other obligations or liabilities.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: All animals sold are guaranteed breeders by the sellers. Any animal that has not proven itself as a breeder within six months after date of sale, if in healthy condition, may be returned to seller at buyer’s expense. The seller reserves the privilege of trying, for a period of six months, to prove the animal is a breeder. The seller, at his option, may either replace the animal with another of equal value or grant the buyer a credit for use on any cattle marketed by the seller in full
