Dear Friends and Cattle Producers, It is again my pleasure to present to you the Third Annual Texas Wagyu Association Producer’s Sale. This is an outstanding group of people to work with, and they have gone out of their way to offer you a great group of cattle and genetics in this year’s sale. This is truly an exciting time to be in the cattle business. Cattle in all aspects of the industry are selling at record high prices, and the conditions project that prices will be strong for quite some time. In addition, the industry is rewarding quality like no other time in history. High marbling cattle are receiving grid premiums not seen in years. What does all of this mean for you? There has never been a better time to upgrade the quality and age of your herd. Right now you can take the older cattle and cull them from your herd and get premium prices that you can invest in high quality young cattle that will offer you profits for years to come. This year’s sale will once again be held at the beautiful Tenroc Ranch in Salado, Texas. Be sure to join us on Friday as there will be several informational speakers and meetings of the Texas Wagyu Association and American Wagyu Association. Friday will be capped off with a country social. Sale Cattle will be on display all day Friday and Saturday morning before the sale. I look forward to meeting and visiting with each of you. It is always a pleasure to meet people who are enthused about high quality cattle. So, if you have any questions, or if you would like to visit about the offering, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you on April 14. Sincerely, Robert Schach er Robert Schacher
The Texas Wagyu Association is proud to host the following speakers at the Texas Wagyu Association General Meeting Friday, April 13, 1:00 pm: Michael Beattie, Executive Director of the American Wagyu Association Dustin Dean, PhD, Sexing Technologies Doug Hawkins, Purina Mark Quinn, DVM, Melissa Feeders

The Lost Straws. The recent discovery of these fully viable semen straws is an extraordinary development for all Wagyu breeders and Red Wagyu breeders in particular. With the highly limited gene pool outside of Japan, the importance of these genetics can hardly be overstated. Rueshaw was the 1975 Japanese Red National Champion and the only national champion to leave Japan. One of the first four import bulls, Rueshaw was the first Wagyu sire to be registered with the AWA after his arrival to the U.S. in 1975. Wagyu breeders outside of Japan are limited to genetics descending from 6 Kumamoto Red and 26 Black Wagyu original import sires. Many of the black sires were line bred and thus closely related. Because there were no Wagyu cows imported to the U.S. until 1993, Rueshaw was used primarily for crossbreeding. Other than one son born in the mid-1990s, there are no registered fullblood progeny at this time. Due in part to their Simmental influence, Red Wagyu add milk production, muscling, frame size, and growth characteristics than can be lacking in the black strains. Progeny of Rueshaw exhibit the deeper bodied, easy fleshing, and heat tolerance qualities sought by many cattlemen. He demonstrated the genetic ability to sire high carcass quality as well since his purebred son, Samurai, sired the coveted Grand Champion Carcass award winner at the 1993 National Western Fed Beef contest in Denver. Seller has tested the semen as follows: • Tested FREE for Band 3, CL16, CHS, and F11 inherited recessive traits. This is very significant because at this time, Rueshaw is the only known free sire of the original import Red Wagyu bulls. He is one of only 7 of all the 31 original import bulls, Red or Black, known to be free of all four traits. • Tested for potency by Elgin Breeding Service. Live normal count of 6.43 million sperm at 0 hours was within the industry standard of 6-8 million. • Authenticated through DNA testing by MMI/Scidera. • Used successfully in a flush in December, 2011. All eggs the donor produced were fertilized. There is a great need for a fresh influx of genetics in the Wagyu breed. This offering marks an exciting opportunity to create a new line to expand the Kumamoto Reds as a distinct breed and for valuable outcross possibilities to the Blacks.

Michifuku
This is an outstanding combination from a first generation sire and dam. Following the recommended rotational breeding plan, this mating blends the most influential genetics from the Shimane and Tajima lines without the inherited recessive trait carried by the dam’s sire, TF Itohana 2. Progeny will be excellent for feeder production or for building a cow herd. The sire of these embryos, Sanjiro, is one of the few 100% Tajima bulls available to U.S. breeders. Ranked #3 for marbling in the 2006 Sire Summary, Sanjiro provides excellent meat quality, large REA, and high yield to his progeny. He has demonstrated outstanding marbling ability for F1 and fullblood production. A progeny test conducted in Australia showed all 6,800 F1s graded Prime+ or better with an ADG of over 2 lbs. The dam of these embryos was bred by master breeder Shogo Takeda from foundation stock he imported in 1995. She has an intense infusion of Dai 7 Itozakura, from whom the ShimaneItozakura line descends. The most famous bull in Japan, Dai 7 is great grandsire on both sides and he appears multiple times in her pedigree. His descendants pass on good growth rates, quiet temperaments, strong maternal ability, and high fertility. His significance is a highly heritable combination of marbling, growth and maternal influences. Few bulls in Wagyu history approach this overall performance. The dam’s maternal grandsire and great grandsire, Itomichi, was the primary herd sire at Takeda Farms. A large framed bull, Itomichi was Dai 7’s highest performing carcass quality son with a BMS of +4.3. By pedigree, these embryos are FREE for Band 3, CL16, CHS, & F11. Angus x Maine
Angus x Maine
These three females are 50% Wagyu, 25% Maine-Anjou, and 25% Angus. They are sired by LMR Kagemusha 2 638S, one of our herd bulls we are using very successfully in our F1 program. The dams are stocky, large frame cows with very good milking ability. Having the hybrid vigor from the F1 cross, they will make really good commercial females to produce F2 Wagyu feeder cattle that will outperform in the feedlot. We are making a lot of these females and are having great success with them. We have found that these F1’s make great recipients too.
