July 6, 2012 Welcome, Its 102 degrees out today and has been near that for several days now. It seemed to be a good time to be in air conditioning, we are not usually in the house in the middle of the day. Picture taking starts next week, cooling off to a chilly 85 degrees. The cattle look remarkably good considering the weather. We just returned from Shorthorn Junior Nationals in Grand Island, NE. What a great event! The Cates Farms genetics continue to compete at a very high level. I sometimes try to imagine one of our National Shows without the influence of CF Trump. I will not be giving you the same old speech about how great this year’s sale offering is. I will just ask you to check the track record of the cattle we have sold over the years and the results they have given our new owners. This year’s offering will be what you have come to expect when you come here. Once again thanks to our families, staff, and all of you who take time to visit us. The hours put in and scarifies made are truly appreciated. We have been doing this a long time and it’s not always easy. There are definite highs and lows. Many of us talk about the great people in this breed, and rightfully so. We have been so very fortunate to have had the pleasure of getting to know and work with so many wonderful families. 1A - POLLED. This will be the second year that the Modoc Margie’s have led off the sale and deservingly so. 211 is the spitting image of Autumn Robison’s Margie that was so successful this past year. She possesses the same, functional, deep bodied look. I am confident in the predictability of the Margies, and I see fame in this female’s future. 1B - POLLED. This female reminds me a lot of Malinda Taylor’s Margie only Modoc Margie roan. She is so good in her angles, and sound in her movement. She has the potential to duplicate that female’s performance, both in the show ring and in production. 1C - HORNED. I can remember growing up admiring the Aldens, and thinking, I hope some day I can own a Margie, and win shows like they do. Margies are still winning shows today and I still admire the Alden family. That’s what happens when you get involved with good families both cow and people.

She has all the required attributes of being a dominate show heifer, and the genetic makeup to be your lead donor. 2B - POLLED. HORNED. I was pretty high on this heifer the day we took pictures even though her and her sister didn’t want to take a good picture. The hottest part of the day is tough sometimes. This one was being dubbed the sleeper by all the picture help, but when you get one this complete, not many people will fail to find this heifer by the time she hits the ring. POLLED. There have been a lot of people picking this one out of the group of younger ET calves. I think our pictures are the best we’ve ever had this year, but you will like this one much better in person. I really liked this heifer’s mother when she was shown and I am guessing this is what she looked like at this age. This is a proven mating that has already produced champions, and high sellers.
