From the desks at T Bar... Wow forty years! Forty years is a long time (longer than I have been alive). I take my hat off to the pioneers who had the foresight to bring this great breed to Canada and to those of you who continue to move it forward. As with any breed, you have seen a lot of changes in the last four decades; however not all the cattle that were imported to this country were able to adapt and contribute to the Canadian beef industry like the Gelbvieh breed. Today the breed has a strong foot hold in the industry, due to its acceptance in the commercial industry. That was very obvious this spring, as the Gelbvieh bull sales were some of the strongest and steadiest in Western Canada. Successful ranchers looked to source the genetics to enhance their cross breeding programs, to make their operations more profitable. This breed is in an enviable position, as commercial cattlemen seek it not only as a source of added performance and pay weight but also for its extreme maternal benefits. Once again that is a credit to you the breeders who have bred the cattle to perform and thrive as Canucks. The sale offering in this catalogue is truly fitting to celebrate forty years of success and are genetic tools to move the breed forward into the next forty years. Leading off is a unique pick, something I do not think has ever been done at Agribition. The choice is yours of eight long yearling bulls from one operation all standing in the Auditorium before you, each capable of moving your program forward. Then you have the opportunity to select bred females who are all destined to become great donor females and fancy heifer calves, many who have the potential to impact the show ring and the breed for a long time. We also have the right to flush a proven donor, this is only possible because it is the fortieth Anniversary celebration. Come for the entire celebration and view the finest set of Gelbvieh cattle ever assembled! If we at T Bar can be of any assistance prior to or sale day, call either Ted or myself. Chris

The Sweetheart Gelbvieh Classic The Man-Sask Gelbvieh Association is pleased to present the 14th Sweetheart Gelbvieh Classic, a people’s choice female futurity to be part of the Canadian Western Agribition Gelbvieh Show in November 2012. The Sweetheart Classic is open to any age of Gelbvieh female entered in the regular Canadian Western Agribition Gelbvieh Show. There will be two bred females and two open heifer calves in the final. Futurity members may enter their females till the day before the show. The futurity entry fee is $100.00 per head, with a maximum of two (2) entries per membership. Memberships to the futurity will be sold for $300.00 which entitles the member to judge (one ballot) the Sweetheart Classic and to receive a limited edition jacket. Members will also be entered into a draw to win the proceeds from the sale of the Sweetheart Classic Champion. Members must be present to vote. No proxy vote allowed. The people’s choice judging of the Sweetheart Classic will take place immediately following the Gelbvieh Bull Show. The Female Gelbvieh Show will commence upon the completion of this portion of the futurity. At the end of the Gelbvieh Female show, the top four (4) females as selected by the futurity members will be announced in random order. The following day, at the Canadian Western Agribition Sale, the final four (4) Sweetheart finalists will be judged during the Presale Reception. The Sweetheart Classic Champion will be announced and then auctioned off as the feature lot. For more information, contact Carrie Nicholas, 306-436-2086 or Del, 306-869-8123

Pick of Eight Herd Sire Prospects
Truly an awesome opportunity to select the breed’s next great sire! With the choice of eight homozygous polled sire prospects, including both of our 2013 NWSS Bull Futurity entries. This group of eight sire prospects all come from true donor quality dams and it was proven when, as a group, they posted an average 205 day ratio of 111.8 and 365 day ratio of 109.5.This elite set of bulls represents two sire groups that have dramatically impacted our program. With six sons sired by PHG Mr.Wizard W27 and two sons from the now deceased RWG Why-Me 9515. Wizard has produced a set of progeny that are admired by everyone who tours our program. These six sons are all excellent examples of great genetic combinations. RWG Why-Me 9515 has quickly become one of the breeds most talked about sires. His progeny have lived up to and surpassed all the high expectations that follow them.

Prairie Hills Gelbvieh is proud to consign a special choice lot. After holding our Summer Open House, and then hosting the North Dakota Gelbvieh Field Day, these two females received the most attention of the open and bred heifers. We would love to take both females home, but we wanted to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary by consigning one of our best. You can’t miss with either of these females. Both are front pasture quality, and will have a great career as show heifers, producing cows, or donors. We can’t decide which one is better - you tell us after the gavel falls!

This sweet red heifer was the winner of the “People’s Choice” vote at our Open House. Deep bodied, wide topped, and still feminine in her lines, she combines all of the qualities of a high power female in a package that will be usable in nearly any program. The Fighting Irish daughters have proven to be some of the top producers at PHG. We purchased “RWG Why Me 9515” from Royal Western Gelbvieh and he has left his mark on our herd in a short amount of time. We lost him this past summer to an injury, so this girl will likely be one of his only daughters ever offered for sale from PHG. Truly a can’t miss opportunity here!

Miss Lullaby combines two very strong blood lines Pacesetter and Movado. Her dam Lullaby 43U is a soggy made cow with a good udder and excellent EPDs. 213Z will take those attributes and combine them with Movados style and stoutness and turn it into a terrific maternal package. Watch for this young prospect.

Overby Stock Farm Miss Mark 5Z is one of the deepest bodied heifer calves you will find. One has to admire the softness that this heifer shows; she is extremely big ribbed and thick. Coming out of the “no miss” Davidson PLD MS Mark 4T cow, you know she will make an easy fleshing, highly productive donor prospect. Her sire, SLC 512T, continues to produce the “great ones” and combined with her dam’s pedigree, you find a very intriguing genetic package not often seen in the breed.

This is your opportunity to share in one of the breed’s top donors and start your own cow family. Owned with Merv Tuplin. Guaranteed five (5) embryos to the bull of your choice. All semen and flush costs are the buyer’s responsibility. Flush must be performed by a certified technician agreed upon by the buyer and seller. Terms are 50% sale day with the balance due upon the completion of the flush.
