National Western Stock Show Beef Palace Auction Arena . . . “On the Hill”
Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen: Welcome to the Tenth Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our third consecutive year “On the Hill” in Denver. This unique event is the result of the collective efforts of forwardthinking Angus seedstock producers. Members of the Denim and Diamonds Group have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none, as is the visual quality of the live offering. Phenotypically, the 2012 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present throughout. As the name suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. The 2011 Denim and Diamonds Sale combines the influence of the breed’s most valuable and proven performance families with the deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancies feature cutting-edge genetics that are sibs to some of the most popular champions and herd sires in the industry. The focus of the sale is on quality, not quantity, and I think you will find that, like a diamond, each lot is distinctive in its own way. I encourage each of you to evaluate your own situation and your breeding goals, and on Thursday, January 12, please join us at 2:00 p.m. following the Angus Junior Show in Expo Hall 1 to view the cattle and enjoy food and refreshments, and then at 5:00 p.m. in the National Western Beef Palace Auction Arena to take advantage of the knowledge and cuttingedge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Whether you are seeking your next herd sire, donor or your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Sincerely,

Offered by K Bar D Kimeric is as excited about the heifer calves he is offering this year as I ever seen him, and if you know Kim, that means he is very excited. In Wendy 17Y, you’ll find the rare combination of a sharp-made, big-hipped, amazingly deep-ribbed female that’s extra sweet up front. She is an own member of the Wendy tribe, among the most dominant cow families in the Angus breed for the past two decades and at K Bar D for pure performance and documented success in the show ring. In addition to the super power ABS sire Ankonian Elixir, the list is just too long to name. The dam of this female, K Bar D Wendy 508, has awesome production with BR 3@100, WR 3@104 and YR 3@104. A son, KBarD Onset 6W, sold from K Bar D’s 2010 NWSS pen of three to Esco Land and Cattle, Oklahoma. Onset recorded the highest weaning weights of any yearling bull in Esco’s 2011 calf crop, with two of his sons leading off their 2012 National Western pen of three. She is also a direct daughter of Double Bar Wendy 9A, a class winner at the National Western Stock Show as a bred heifer that went on to become Grand Champion Cow/Calf at the North American in Louisville in a highly competitive division that included the raining Denver champion. A full sib to 508, KBarD Can-Du, at the side of Wendy 9A, was also chosen as North American Junior Bull Calf Champion the very same day; this March calf weighed in at 1087 on his two-year-old dam in Louisville. Here’s a rare opportunity to be in at ground level with a for sure champion and a foundation Wendy donor! • Sells open.

Offered by K Bar D Lot 15 is sure to be competitive in the March division at any level of competition you choose to campaign her. She tracks out wide with a long, level hip and offers tremendous capacity with great turn to her rib and extra depth. She stems from the Elaine family, one of the most profitable cow families at K Bar D that also produced K Bar D Melody Elaine, who sold half interest to Winterbrook Angus in Oregon for $12,500 and then went on to be Western Idaho ROV Champion and Oregon State Fair ROV Reserve Champion, as well as K Bar D Soul, the $12,250 Leachman sale topper in 2007. The lead off bull in K Bar D’s 2010 National Western pen of three, K Bar D Strut K5U, by Marathon, became Ankony and Friends 2010 sale topper to Wilson Angus for $5,500. Additionally, the high selling bred heifer in the 2008 Denim and Diamonds Sale is from this same highly productive Elaine family. This is one prospect that will definitely find the backdrop and go on to pay big dividends on your investment. • Sells open.

Offered by K Bar D Lot 16 is another top show and cow prospect. She stems from the Queen Bee family, made famous in the Pope Ranches herd in Oregon; her dam now resides at K Bar D as a coming 10 year old in January. Longevity and sustainability are here in a combination of the foundation components, including impeccable structure, overall length and internal dimension in an ultra-feminine, feed efficient package. The pedigree and cow family tabulation behind 14Y is like the “who’s who” of the Angus breed. Her sire, LCC New Standard, is acclaimed by many as the finest of the Bon View New Design 1407 sons. He has been in the top five ABS sires in sales for the past five years. New Standard’s dam, LCC Sunset K3118, who now resides at K Bar D, is among the most correct and youthful 11-year-old cows on the planet. Beyond this are such Angus greats as Bon View Spectrum 1176, Bon View Gammer 1324, WAR Venture 8030 6008, VDAR Traveler 722, Bon View Bando 598, Tehama Band 207 and last but surely not least, the ever-popular Leachman Saugahatchee. 14Y combines the “right” phenotype for the times with balanced EPDs across the board. Stacked with a pedigree already proven, this is a recipe for multiple paths to the backdrop and long-term dividends. • Sells open.

Offered by Allison Bond An opportunity to tap into one of the most productive and profitable cow families in the 007 program. A maternal sister to 1274 sold to the partnership of Eby Ranch and May-Way Farms, both of Kansas, for $10,000, while another maternal sister sold for $4,250 to Styles Angus of South Dakota. 1274’s dam is a direct daughter of the immortal WK Miss 6191, who has created more than $283,000 in progeny sales, including most recently a daughter (pictured) that sold for $50,500 for half interest through Bob May’s heifer sale. Grandam’s production: BW 7@99, WW 7@110, YW 7@107, IMF 35@103, RE 35@101. Lot 19 offers the soundness and fault-free phenotype in a youthful package that projects her to be exceptionally hard to handle in the show ring as a bred heifer. If you want one with a bright future, here she is. • Sells open.

Queen 414 Embryos from Price Farms Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to purchase genetics from the elite Angus donor J&J Queen 414, who has been proclaimed by many as Northern Improvement’s greatest daughter. This female is proven to generate unparalleled “look,” quality, structural soundness and power. As a result of a flush purchased by Walter Cattle Company and Steve Gilbert in the May 2007 J&J Sale, 414 is the dam of the 2010 Reserve National Champion Percentage Simmental Heifer, WLTR Lydia, and the 2010 National Western Stock Show Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Simmental Bull, WLTR Renegade, who was also named Grand Champion Percentage Bull at the 2010 American Royal. Until their dispersion in May 2010, 414 served as the cornerstone donor for J&J Angus in Oklahoma. The Queen Family accounted for more than $68,000 of the sale gross in the May 2010 J&J Dispersion and included J&J Queen 9064, sold for $11,250, and J&J Queen 9044, sold for $11,500 to Fred Schultz of Perkins, Okla., along with J&J Queen 613, sold for $10,400 to KB Cattle Company of Wills Point, Texas. During her tenure as a donor for J&J and Price Farms, Queen 414 sold over 30 embryos to average over $840 each and allowed Price Farms to recover over $21,000 of their initial investment within the first six months of owning her. Embryos out of this prolific donor also sold in the 2010 Denim and Diamonds Sale, where five full sib embryos to Lot 26B sold for $700 each to Fred Schultz, and five embryos by BC Lookout brought $1,050 per embryo to Circle M Farms of Rockwall, Texas. In the 2011 Oklahoma Angus Gathering, 20 embryos by Lookout, Macho, Dream On and Meyer 734 totaled $19,500 to average $975. In the 2011 Price Farms Sale, 15 embryos from 414 sold for an average of $1,050. Queen 414 is made for those who enjoy looking at great ones, and these three matings by Connealy Final Product, 3C Macho and Meyer 734 will produce that kind. • Seller guarantees a minimum of 50% conception if embryos are implanted by an AETA-Certified embryologist.

Truly one of the features to sell in Denver in 2012, Joe Canada is “the stoutest, coolest, most uniquely made bull calf ever raised at K Bar D.” Even the most discriminating cattlemen say “Joe” is the stoutest Angus bull they have ever seen. True power lies within his extreme length and muscular build but also with soundness beyond. “Build your house from the ground up”…straight toed, huge footed, powerful boned, clean jointed and wide based ensure his longevity, combined with the tremendous tabulation of cow power throughout his pedigree, proving Joe Canada as a super power sire for years to come. The sire of Lot 42, Sooline Alternative 9127W, was the $30,000 top selling Kodiak son in the 2010 Sooline Sale. On the maternal side, Joe Canada stacks Traveler 004 and Northern Improvement with Greens Savannah 9909. In addition to being the dam of Malsons Savannah 27W, the reigning Denver Champion Female, Savannah 9909 was a past ROV Show Heifer of the Year who reigned as the 2000 NAILE Champion Female, also being Champion Female of the 2000 NILE ROV and the 2000 Western Idaho ROV, Reserve Champion of the 2000 Oregon State Fair ROV, Late Junior Heifer Calf Champion of the 2000 Western National, class winner of the 2000 National Junior Angus Show and Junior Heifer Calf Champion of the 1999 NILE ROV. Greens Premium 7578, a maternal brother to the grandam of Lot 42, was the 1999 Canadian Western Agribition Grand Champion Bull and also Grand Champion of the 1998 Canadian Farm Fair, the 1999 North American Supreme Beef Challenge and the 1999 Western Idaho ROV, Reserve Champion of the 1999 Montana Fair, Reserve Junior Champion of the 1999 National Western and Early Junior Bull Calf Champion of the 1998 Western National. Greens Marshall, a $100,000 maternal brother to the grandam of Lot 42, was the 2001 National Western Spring Bull Calf Champion. This son of a first-calf heifer combines an amazing adjusted weaning weight of 964 pounds with a moderate birth weight of 78 pounds. Excellent numerical balance, outcross genetics, proven pedigree and killer phenotype…Joe Canada has it all! He’s one of a kind! • Selling one-half interest.
